So one week Martha can do nothing wrong. The next she is doing nothing right. Has her latest escapades left you wondering, "Will the real Martha Stewart please stand up"?

I must have missed what Martha's newest "Good Thing" was. Must not have turned out too good after all by the sounds of this thread.

Joan, Martha has financial woes...she's been linked to some insider trading and stock in her own company has taken a steep nosedive as a result. This is the 'reader's digest condensed version' I'm sure details are all over the web.

Seems Martha sold a lot of stock just before it took a dive. Did she have an inside tip?

Okay, I thought maybe there was something else. I had heard about this.

She used to be a stock broker ya know, she should have known better!!

Was she really a stock broker? I thought she was a model at one time.

Yeah, she was a Wall Street financial type before becoming self-appointed domestic doyenne. Which makes the whole thing all the more strange - she definitely shoulda known better.

And do the math - save yourself ~$250,000 by acting on the insider tip (an amount that seems huge, but is quite literally "dig-in-the-bottom-of-your-purse" change to the billion-dollar woman) and your stock price plunges, costing you (on paper) millions? Not to mention you face the possibility of imprisonment? Tsk tsk tsk. Not a good thing.

Vols, that's why I'm kind of thinking she didn't know anything and just decided to sell her stock the day before. I mean, taking your point into consideration, selling that stock due to insider trading would be the ultimate in stupidity, especially since the SEC is under a microscope right now with all the "creative bookkeeping" going on. And I don't think the amount she stood to lose wasn't even the quarter mil ~ that was just the value of the stock at the time she sold. If she had waited to sell until the news about IMClone was out, she would have still been able to get back some of that money, though it surely wouldn't have been the whole 250 grand.

I have to admit it DOES look awful bad. Maybe she did do it, maybe she got too big for her britches and was thinking that she could get away with it? Dunno. Whatever ~ it's certainly not a good thing.

It took me 33 yrs to get my Bachelor's & I sure don't like all this bad talk about my Profession now that I have it. But 'Greed' is the key word for all these wealthy people wanting to get wealthier! Crying shame some of these household names have dirt all over them these days!

You all have Martha guilty before any proof is even presented. I heard that she had told her stock broker that if the stock started to go down to sell at a certain point.
Which he did. I think it was just a coincidence. SHe is to savvy A lady to make that mistake especially with all the investigating going on of big corporations.

Dosen't anyone like Martha? She is not my favorite person and I understand she is hard to work for but I think she does a good job. Her shows are interesting and informative.

Just my opinion.

I would luv martha if she did all her OWN gardening! I have to bust MY butt to keep my garden even close to looking good. I wish I had a latin gardener to do all my work when the cameras arent rolling!
She has lots of great ideas n cooks n bakes,she even organizes her cupboards n drawers!-I dont have time for all that!!! Im to busy mowing the lawn(acres)picking the fruit,weeding the gardenS and cramming stuff in to cupboards! :)

She may yet be found "not guilty." (I wouldn't go so far as to call her innocent.) And no, I'm not a Martha fan, but not a basher either. But here's the thing that has aroused such scrutiny and skepticism: stop-loss orders are generally recorded by the broker. In fact, most large brokerage firms (including hers) REQUIRE them to be so - just to protect themselves and their clients from misunderstandings, and (most importantly) to avoid this exact situation. If such a document had been produced, none of this would be an issue, and the story would have been cold in the grave by now.

My personal conclusion is that Miss Martha probably let arrogance and greed lead her into doing something very foolish. At a minimum, her name and reputation (on which her fortune is based) will be tarnished for a long time.

She came to our area in Northeast Harbor and had this poor couple detained all afternoon who were on their way to a wedding just because they got curious and went down her driveway. This happened last summer.
