How many of you responded to that person that wanted a garden identified? I know Darius and I thought it was at Biltmore. Anyway, I got a thanks and an invitation to dinner. Did all of you get that answer? Is this someone to be concerned about? Dave, what do you think?
Bogus? Dinner for 2?
Well, I certainly don't think that it's cause for alarm, but I would never encourage anyone to go meet an "internet friend" in real life alone until you've known them for a long time. That's just common sense. It'd probably be best to respond with a "thanks, but maybe next year after we've gotten to know you better on the site. See you on DG!".
Dave
No kidding!!! Even then, I would suggest that you have someone with you, like DH or big, grown sons!!!

Yes, I got that email since I helped with that thread. He doesn't want to have dinner with us, he wants to thank us with a gift certificate for dinner for two (at a restaurant in our individual areas). I'm waiting to hear back from him. We will see.
My question is: why was it so important? That has me really curious. I wonder if it was a contest or something he was in, since the picture had a number 19 on it.
Or maybe a grade for school............future botanist maybe?? I reread the thread, and I agree, he didn't say with him, just you and a guest. Sure would like to know more about this Mike.

I would be glad to fill in as either of your guests...LOL I remeber reading it that way too...not with him...Jo
I asked him about his reasons in a reply email, with no response yet. He also said he had no luck with another posting on DG, non-plant, but a search of DG under his name failed to turn up but one thread he started.
I tend to always think the best of someone until proven absolutely wrong, and since he didn't give a time frame either in his thread, nor the email, I'm just waiting.
I sent him an e-mail with the thread, saying there'd been replies and someone had guessed it, but he never replied. I just assumed he's been busy, maybe? Maybe he labels his photos as he scans them from pictures and that's the reason for the 19. Could be they were driving by the garden on the way somewhere else on a trip and took the shot to research later because they couldn't stop. I've done that, only never gotten around to the research part, LOL!
well, that was the odd part, to me. If he had/took a picture of this garden, how come they don't know where they are?
Well, if on a long drive (such as the infamous Mobile Roundup being planned by Jo, Cala and Carol) it'd be possible state lines and sights seen along the way would become one big blur. Maybe the picture was taken a long time ago, too, and the person just can't recall where it was. Some have a good memory for places, while others don't. Shoot, I have a friend with cerebral palsy who literally became lost in a hospital because the condition left her with no sense of direction; she can't find her way to any but the most well-visited places without getting directions each time.
