Stairs

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I have a house with hardwood stairs. I just had a deja vu. When I was a teenager I knew exactly where you had to step on the stairs so that they wouldn't creak. I'm 50 (and a tiny bit) and I just did the same thing in my own house. Do we ever grow up? I remember it like it was yesterday.

what a memory, we had hardwood stairs also. i always thought i knew the creaks well enough, but always seemed to find the new ones when id try to sneak upstairs past curfew.
got a little smarter (i thought)as i got older. i'd place a glass of water on the table downstairs and grab it on my way up and pretend that i had just come down for it. worked a couple of times until they set me up. mom was in the kitchen and dad upstairs waiting for me..aargh.

Too funny - the first time I remember getting caught, I was SOO careful going up those stairs. Silently closed my bedroom door - paused - didn't hear anyone in the house move, turned on the light in my room, and there was my MOM IN MY BED!

I must say - I wasn't creeping in or out - it's just funny how memories come back out of nowhere.

I came home to my Mom in my bed too! But I tiptoed back out and took a book and a flashlight out to the car. When they started looking for me in panic the next morning I was there with the book and flashlight sound asleep...told them I couldn't sleep so I came out there to read where the light wouldn't bother anyone and fell asleep...They did NOT fall for it and I was grounded all summer! LOL Thanks for the memories!

ROTF, you guys! Mom and I lived with my grandma when we first moved to Ohio, and my bedroom was in the walk-out basement.

Do NOT put your teen in a walk-out basement.

One night, my friend spent the night and we sneaked out in the wee hours. We left music playing (like we would if sleeping) and stuffed the beds with what we thought were lifelike forms. We walked to our friend's house, ducking into shadows whenever cars came by, visited, and walked back home in the really wee hours. We came back in the back door of the basement and got into bed...Only to hear my petite grandma say in an uncharacteristly booming voice, "GIRLS. Get up here!" *Gulp*

She'd called my friend's mom and everyone had been worried sick, of course. BUSTED!
