a love/hate relationship

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I love the looks of a Gerbera daisy. I hate trying to grow it. Mine wilted every day without watering so I decided to plant it in my bog garden. It perked up the first day and now is all wilted again, drowning, I assume. Anyone had better luck than me? It is not potted, but planted in the ground.

Wood, I kill them everytime I try to grow them but I have a friend that plants them in pots, waters every day and uses lots of fertilize. She said they are heavy feeders. Her's are gorgeous with huge blooms. I hide mine when she's coming to visit so she won't laugh at them.
Wonder if you added some of those water sorb crystals to the potting mix?

I'm glad to hear someone else has trouble growing Gerber daisies. Mine too, wilt and look pretty sorry.
Maybe I'll try putting them in pots like Calalily suggests.
They are a pretty flower and not inexpensive, so hate to lose them.

Thank goodness!!! I've been struggling with mine since I brought them outside! I have them in pots and some in planters (homemade) and in partial shade, and water them everyday! Seems as though they really hate the heat! I'm going to try fertilizing more too!

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

A neighbor bedded them out this summer, but all soil was removed from bed 10'x5' and soilless potting mix to a depth of 12". Gerberas are gorgeous there, thriving, but a lot of work (and money)!

well, I had mine in a pot first and it kept wilting so I moved it to the garden and then it only wilted every other day instead of every day, lol. So that's when I decided to experiment with the bog garden. The best idea I've heard is using those water sorb crystals in the pot. But I am not going to do this anymore this year......
