Pumping water

Orrville, OH(Zone 5b)

It's been very dry here the past several weeks, and it looks like I'm going to have to pump water to the garden from a spring house about 150 feet away. In past years I've used a sump pump and several lengths of 3/4" garden hose connected together. Works, but very slow.

Does anyone know where I can buy 1-1/4 or 1-1/2 in diameter flexible drainage hose at a reasonable price? Around here, it seems to be only available in short lengths and pretty expensive.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Dennis

Hi! Do you have any irrigation supply stores nearby or check the net? They carry hose like that. Or sometimes you can get hose like that from Bearing stores that supply trucking firms and the like. I just bought some two inch hose this past week for $1.09 a foot to price compare. Good luck. Lani

Would 1-1/2 inch backwash hose from a pool supply company work for you or is that a little too flexible? 200 feet costs $60.

Thank you both for responding to my post.

Lani: Wish I could afford that irrigation hose, but the budget won't stand the expense.

Amari: That sounds just about right. I'll check out the local pool supply stores.

I understand. That is why I posted the price so you could decide before you got excited about it. It IS spendy but we had to have 150 feet of it for our irrigation. $$$$OUCH Good luck.

Had to supply potable water to a ship at anchor at the mouth of a river a few years back. The river has so much minute dust (glacier silt) it would clog the filters in thier water maker.

Tried pumping with with a single sump type pump, but the flow was so slow it would take most of the day to give then 4000 gals.

So what we did was insert a in-line "Jabsco" pump about 50 ft. down line from from the sump pump. This increased the flow about 400%, even having to do a 35 foot lift.

Happy Watering...................Dennis
