What Are You Doing for the 4th?

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Our son Tim and Amy are coming from CT tonight. He has a fishing expedition for the day on Sat. going out of the Chesapeake so we are all going down there for the fireworks and to do some fishing and crabbing. Yep, sure I will come back with more driftwood for the garden LOL!

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

That sounds fun, Haighr.

I live right on Main Street and the parade goes right by my house. So the kids (all except the one in Oregon) and grandkids all come over for a picnic lunch and the parade on the 4th.

I have little flags for the toddlers and 5 little umbrellas in red/white/blue to help shade them. They love seeing the fire engines, horses, and everything else. I think the big kids do, too.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

I know the big kids enjoy it more! I know cause I am one of those "big" kids now. Will talk to you soon and enjoy and be careful! Wish us luck on the crabs LOL!

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I think I will go to Helsinki Botanical tomorrow, haven't visited there for a long time.. :P so nothing special I think. Have a nice "party" there ;)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

It hasn't been too hot here, it has been a little rainy, but now it is starting to get warmer again. I really like this climate better than Hungary and Austria, awfully hot there ¦Þ I did some weeding yesterday, my self grown plants bed was full of 'vesiheinä' -plant. :} Had to replant my poor blue malva and sunflowers and tie some foxgloves and solanums as they were a little slacky.

Off the topic, sorry...

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I will be praying for rain, same as on the 3rd and 2nd and 1st...

Whoever got the rain I forwarded in May, we need it back!

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Plan on go fishing and crabbing! =D

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

We are all going to be here working on the house and yard. So much to do and so little time until winter sets in again. We are on a deadline because we have to be IN the new house by the time the ground freezes, so we utilize every spare moment to it's fullest. We can't shoot fireworks anyway, since we are in the extreme fire danger catagory, so, we are using our days off to work around here.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Getting my new garden bed ready for my roundup plants, and barbeque T Bones on the grill!! Then ...........crash, and rest from my long journey!

For now I'm sweating. I took the day off yesterday for a minor procedure in the hospital. I spent the afternoon dozing with the air on. At 4:00 a beeping sound woke me up - it was my answering machine - the power went out. It was close to 100 yesterday and quite humid. The power finally came back on this morning at 8:00. I'm now catching up on some laundry and when that's done I'll turn the air on and cool off. At least I now have the fans on. There were a couple of cooling stations in the area but they advertised it on TV and without power who knew. We're supposed to get thunderstorms later today - I hope we do and it cools off and gets rid of this humidity. I just hope we don't lose power again. Everyone enjoy the holiday!

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Since we're military, we'll head out to Maxwell AFB for the fireworks show tonight. The kids will love it. Since we're still in a hightened awareness, my DH will have to wear his uniform, though. He'd rather be in shorts and a t-shirt. :)

Be sure you put up your flags if you have one.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Weez and I have been invited to a BBQ two diveways down the road.
Our little town swells from about 3,000 to over 20,000 over the 4th. Seward is THE place in Alaska to go for all the celebrations.
People who live in town can wake up to find 2 or 3 tents pitched in thier front yard. No thanks!
We have stayed "out the road" and hav'nt gone to town on the 4th for about 5 years.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Our big flag has been out since 9-11!! We are keeping our little 2 yr old Hannah til Sunday pm. We will be going to Barbara's (Cleome)house soon & grill some Halibut and maybe swim. Taking fresh bread, Apple Pie & deviled eggs. So far the sun is shining, hope it doesn't rain out the fireworks tonight

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Just wondered, do you take your flag off from the pole every evening or let it be for months or days? Here it has to be taken down when sun sets. It is impossible in far up in north Finland in June, as sun never goes down there, hehehe :)

Iola, WI

I got to RIDE in the parade today!!

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

Have a lovely 4th of July !!!!!!
and enjoy the party.

Evert..........the flag stays up at my house 24/7, aand so it shall remain!!

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Here it might be problem to keep it up 24/7 as our flag is white with a blue cross - can get dirty in bad weather.

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Eyes, and everyone else, unless the flag has a light on it, it's not to be kept up at night. It's also supposed to come down during the rain. It is not to touch anything else, especially the ground, and cannot be flown with any other flag on the same staff. Lot's of rules and these are only a few.

Did you know that one way to dispose of an old flag is actually to burn it? Most military bases have special ceremonies for this and you can take your old flags there to dispose of them.

I have plenty more to share, but I'll hush for now as I don't want to go crazy here. :)

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

I could never burn a flag!!! I do have a light on mine, but I sure didn't know about the rain. Guess I better edo some more research!
