Bananas: young banana

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

I thought bananas took full sun. Mine has areas on the leaves that look to me like sun scorch. It gets afternoon sun, probably about 6 or so hours. Do I need to move it?

I have always had my bananas in full sun. dunno what would cause yellow leaves. Are they the leaves on the bottom? Sometimes they will yellow and die back as the they get taller.

No, Roz, the leaves aren't yellow like they are dying. It's just a splotchy area in the middle of several upper leaves. Knew I shoulda taken a picture.

Are these bananas thr ones like I brought to the plant swap or are they red bananas? Cause I think they are splotchy, only i think it is red splotchy. I dunno. Wish I could help, but bananas definitely like sun.

It is one I got from you at the swap, Roz. The two newest leaves look okay so far. Maybe it was shock cause I moved it from a rather shady area to a sunny location (in a pot right now, til I figure out where I want it permanently).

Thanks MaVieRose

u're welcome Gingerlily :)!

in the Philippines, banana rhyzomes are planted in the sun in water flooded area, if not in fish ponds to tribe well. in some homes, they were planted, where they are under canopy of tall trees.

the banana leaves, we use to wrap fish or meat for broiling to prevent them from burning and emit a nice flavor. leaves are lightly burn over fire to make them pliable, easy to handle and not break apart.

there are numerous varieties of bananas. some variety are use for cooking, while others are for eating just as they are. thought to throw that in for informative purposes.

both my green and red are in full sun. They are growing like weeds, so I'm guessing they like it.

tiG, so long as u give them plenty of water they should be fine. they do require lots and lots of water to tribe well. accdg to my grandma, the reason why they are mostly planted in the shades in private home... is so they need not be watered too much.
