I love fresh pineapples mingsmimi. Have you ever tried cutting off the top and growing one? They will reward you with a fruit a year later.

ya know!!>>>>. As I was tossing that top into the garbage , Something WAY BACK in my tiny blonde brain was telling me...."you can grow one from this" have you done it? does it work?

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

yes, i have done it numerous times and worked everytime! What I do is this: I peel off the bottem layers of the picky leaves. If you look close you can see the roots. I let it air dry for a couple of days (you've already done it) and just plant it! That easy! A year or so later, a pineapple will form in the crown!

REALLY!!!! ANd you can eat it?????

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

yes, really! :-) I kept mine outside most of the winter here, we are much milder, I had to move it inside for a couple of days. So I would think you might need a greenhouse waaaaay up there in that artic cold yall have...giggle

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

hahahah. yeah. I have no greenhouse. maybe I could keep it here in my computer room.

I've got one growing in my garden in a pot right now. There are two small ones coming up around it. Should be ready in a few more months.

Have you ever gotten fruit justmeLisa? I have three growing on my back porch and two more in the ground. Thos in the ground froze a little but they are putting out new leaves. The ones on the porch are healthy but not showing any signs of flowering.
