Gerbera help

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I posted this on the Garden Forum but got no answer so I will try here. My daughter bought a Gerbera Daisy for my birthday. It wilted the first day so I watered it and it wilted again the next day. So I planted it and now it wilts about every other day. To make matters worse, if the flowers or buds wilt, the stems crimp and then won't take up water so they shrivel up. We have had a dry year, but rather cool here in the mtns. of NC. Can the Gerbera be a bog plant? I have a little bog on one side of my pond where I could plant it. It has no buds now; will it continue to bloom later if I fertilize it?

We have potted gerberas at the store they need water almost every other day, I haven't noticed any of the other problems that you seem to be having though. I believe that they are native to south africa, around the coast. I'm not so sure about them being a bog plant. I would make sure you cut the stems back to the very base of the plant, keep it well water and maybe a little food. It should probaly start to put on some new growth soon. Oh, btw was it very pot bound when you planted it???? I know this doesn't fully answer your questions but it a start!!!
Good luck

yes it was kinda pot bound. But it stil wilts every other day if I don't watch it. That's why I was interested in tryig it as a bog plant.

I also have a lot of gerber dasies and the hot weather is causing them to root in the pots because of having to water them so much. What can i do to save the rest of them?

How can i keep them in the winter in the pots or shuld i take them out and let them dry out and repot them next spring?

Just my opinion but if it were me, I would take it out of the pot and get all the store bought soil off of it and repot it or put it in the ground.
Just dig it up and put all new soil in the hole with it. Fill the hole with water before you start covering it up.
Done this plenty of times to all different kinds of store bought plants.
Not knowing where the plant was bought, this too is my opinion but usually the plants I buy from Wal-Mart and other department stores seem to have cheap soil mixes in them.
Hope this helps
