Oh, Deer

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

This tickled me. I don't know if we'll be able to drive to Johnstown to take pictures of these deer, but I hope to. This was in our local radio station's (WCLT at http://www.wclt.com ) e-mail newsletter today:

If you're driving through Johnstown you might want to slow down for the deer. According to Marvin Block of the Johnstown Historical Society, they have been selling deer to raise money. Block says businesses have been buying the deer, decorating them and than putting in front of their stores. On August 18th the deer will be auctioned off. Block says the decorated deer are catching people's eyes. The society encouraged the businesses to decorate the deer. Driving through Johnstown, you can see a dalmatian deer in front of the fire department, a block deer in front a local restaurant or a deer-hunter. The Historical Society plans to use the money from the August 18th picnic and deer auction to continue maintaining local historical buildings.

LOL, GW... I'm sorry, but your thread title caught my eyes. I looked at your site, but didn't find the deer pictures, but it sounds kind of funny. Maybe I'm having my first senior moment...

My friend & I call each other "Dear/Deer". We always remind each other who is Dear and who is Deer...

Knoxville, TN did that with bears this spring. When driving through the downtown area, you can see bears all painted in pretty colors. Nice!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

I am with you Morph, where are those deer?

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Portland did that with cows this spring, and the proceeds went to a charitable organization, cant remember which one. One of the cows was stolen on a friday, there was quite the hoopla - then it was found a couple of miles away with some minor damage that the artist was able to repair.

Perrysburg, OH(Zone 5a)

Toledo did it with frogs aka "frogtown"-- i don't know why, but some of them were pretty cool

Circleville, OH(Zone 8b)

Hi kim I couldn't find it either.

Well, I didn't have pictures posted anywhere of it. I just got this little news blurb from WCLT's e-mail newsletter. Other local papers online might have more about the contest, though.
