Special Rose DB?

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Dave,

Looking at Penny's request (Rose forum), how about a special rose db like you have for hosta, daylily, tomatoes, etc?

Please, please, please? With a poppy on top? LOL

That's a good idea, Kathy.

Indeed, vols has spent quite a bit of time looking into this very thing. We are trying to fill out the database with a good variety of the most popular types of plants, and roses are very very high on that list.

I'm having a sense of deja vu, or this question was posed on another forum, too...

But in cae it's just me, here's the deal: the plans are to have a special area for roses, similar to the daylilies, hostas, brugs, etc.

However, we ran into some snags when it came to light that the American Rose Society (ARS) classifications for rose colors and type (OGR, HT, etc.) are not internationally accepted. I've contacted the Int'l Society, and was put in contact with someone who is to send the international standards to me. However, that was about the time we launched the upgraded PDB, and I haven't heard back again, despite my emails to her. So if anyone can track down the international standards, we'd be a lot closer to getting the rose section up and running :)

I will see what I can find! Have you contacted any of the UK or German or Netherland DG members; they might have an easier access.

Go_Vols,

I have been doing some research; I will write you an e-mail with info I have dug up, probably tomorrow. Not sure exactly how intricate a Rose DB y'all want to have, but I know what I would love to see....

Kathy, thanks for pitching in - any information you can provide would be GREAT. I'll await your email :)

The only thing I could find until now was this, http://www.worldrose.org/aboutwfrs/about.html but I don't suppose it'll be much use.
You've probably seen it already if you have been looking around for it.

I'll keep looking too

Wintermoor, thank you. Yes, in fact, that is the site I started with to reach someone at an international level.

The people at the WFRS were very helpful and responsive, and put me in contact with someone within their organization. And that contact person was quick to respond to my initial email, promising to send some documents. However, that was several weeks (months?) ago, and I've emailed her a few times since (trying to not be a HUGE pest), to no avail :(

I am e-mailing you an Excel 5.0 spreadsheet (6 sheets) with some of the info I have collected so far; still no conclusive news about France/Germany. I will keep checking...

I am not including any information about rose exhibiting; this seems to be the area of the most contentions, as well as being something of interest only to those members of a rose society who get their own information locally. If you want ARS information, let me know; I have current info.

Thanks, Kathy - I got your spreadsheet a few minutes ago. I'm up to my eyeballs in beans at the moment (check out the Legumes forum, 'Sorting the Beans' to see what I mean, lololol) and tomorrow morning I'm headed for the roundup. Long story long, it'll be Sunday before I can sit down and study what you've sent, but it's high on my priority list for then - can't wait to spend some undivided time and attention going over it. I'll email you after I've had a look-see :0) Thanks so much for the efforts you've expended!!!
