Poor Ol' Nana

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

She brought a plant for me to see, so excited!! She wanted to know if it was a purple datura. It was a Jimpson Weed, getting ready to bloom!! I saw it and said "Nana, why you bringin me a Jimpson Weed?" and she said "it's a beautiful datura" I didn't laugh, I promise!! I said "I know who you got these from"(not from DG of course)
PS: you should see this lady pack plants into the car to keep Steve and Bill from tossing them. When I told her they were heading for the pile of throw away plants, I'd never seen Nana move so fast!!!

Burlington, NC(Zone 7b)

Believe me, If I could get there - I'd give Nana a run for her money!!!!! GO NANA GO!!!!!

Forgot to mention, she brought me a load of nice plants and homemade cookies and muffins along with fresh corn, tomatoes and a cantaloupe!! I think I came out pretty good, don't you? Oh yeah and doggie biscuits for Bill, lol.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

My poor, poor Nana! I did tell her she must have got the yucky ones! LOL I'll have to see what I have in my little goody house and maybe I can bring her some pretties. I certainly did promise her the variety that would make her yard smell like a brothel! LOL (that seemed to exciter her-giggle). And she got to rescue more plants?! Cala you sure know how to get that girlie movin'! She even brought a doggie biscuit? Awwwwww. What a woman!

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

Don't feel bad, Nana. I was telling David about a nice datura I had, too, and he sadly told me it was jimpson weed. Don't know where I got the seeds. Oh well. I pulled it up immediately. I have more than enough weeds already.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Now, I see how to light a fire under that gal.........dangle some green babies in front of her eyeballs!!

WAAAH...What's wrong with Jimpson Weed! It's very pretty...covers a bare spot...and you can have a "happy time" with it!! We have lots of them blooming now in AZ...and with all the Yucca plants they make a lovely show. What is a weed anyhow...something that has not found a use....well, the Native Americans have a lot of use for this Datura! Nana..you lucky devil....to have such a lovely & useful plant!!!!. Jo (sticking tounge out at cala)

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Watch out Jo...........or you'll be holding a truckload of the wacky weed in yer lap the whole trip!!

Amazing how quickly we can go from absolutely loving a beautiful flowering plant to yanking it up just because someone else calls it a weed. Stand up for yourselves, folks. If you like it, who cares what it is!

Wapakoneta, OH(Zone 5b)

I say, If it is pretty and you like it, keep it!!!
Ssome "weeds" have pretty foliage

Blum, TX(Zone 8a)

Well folks, when something grows well, and has such a large pure white bloom and cheers you on a cloudy day...and until something prettier grows in it's place, It will hold a place in my yard and heart.

Crossville, TN

Thank you for your support...this old gal has to depend on natures blooms...as she has none of her very own yet!! But you should see my purple WILD Verbena growing in my yard!! I bought a small purple one at Wal Mart...kept it in the pot for a couple of days, set it in the ground///PLOP....dead as a doornail....but Nature's is doing nicely....poor weed that it is. LOL Jo

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

I'm so confused!!! Please help!!! It said Datura, Angel's Trumpet. But, I read Azalea's link & now I'm worried it may be poisonous (the site said FATAL >:0000) I don't want my doggies to die if they accidentally chew a leaf or two... Anybody have any ideas on this one? Why is identification so hard sometimes? That's what scared me from starting until I found Daves...

I've grown datura, and have dogs and cats, all still much alive. I have a bunny that eats brugmansia leaves, he's (unfortunately) still alive too.

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

Yes, the seeds are poisonous. I believe that it takes twenty or so to be fatal. People in search of a high eat them, it takes on the order of 18 to get there. As you can see the margin for error is pretty slim.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Sounds like Ms Nana is getting a good collection of dumpster plants. Maybe we need to raid her garden and Cala's .
