Hi Dave,
could we test the waters for a geranium forum? if you do a search, I think the recent postings from many different people would show that there is a good bit of interest.
thanks for considering
geranium forum?
oh yes please as Mark gets down on bended knee with hands clasped in a begging stylee!! LOL
I'm sure I'd use a geranium forum ;o)
Yes, a geranium forum would be well used, so pleeease Dave......?
Oh dave, yes, yes, yes,........can't stand to see our Geranium King on bended knee!!!!
"eyes"
Okay, I'll create this forum later this morning.
YEEHAW!!!!!!! thanks Dave!!!
Thanks Dave, can't wait (well i can, but you know what i mean) :0D
LOL, would you all look at the time lapse between Dave's post and tiG's! She was stalking the thread.
LOL!!! I admit it.
tiG what a great idea you mentioned yesterday.
I hope it is well used in the coming months. can I suggest we use it for
collecting seed
pruning & propagating
where to grow it
images of course
and whatever else comes to mind.
yes, I have a thousand questions!!!
OK hold on until the forum is running!
should it be a Hardy Geranium forum or Geraniaceae forum to include Geraniums, Erodiums & Pelargoniums?
Mark
Okay, you're all set. http://davesgarden.com/forums/geraniums.html
best,
dave
yo dah maan!!
Geraniaceae would be a good idea. Then we can be really pedantic without annoying others LOLOL
I cant remeber what THAT word means!! LOL
LOLOL! You're obviously not a pedant then ;)
and there was I thinking I was a peasant? LOL
Whenever possible, PLEASE post your pictures of species, varieties and named cultivars in the PDB.
I understand the concerns about someone taking an image from there and violating copyright issues; the sad truth is that can be done with a photo posted to a forum as easily as one in the PDB.
While I can't say with certainty that no one has ever "lifted" a photo from the PDB (or a forum for that matter) and used it without permission, I CAN promise that we have many individuals and companies scouting our PDB for pictures. I'm not at liberty to "name names", but we routinely receive numerous requests to use various photos. When a request comes in, I contact the contributor, see if they're interested in having their photo used elsewhere, and work to make sure they are given appropriate credit for their image.
If you are interested in gaining wider exposure for your photos, it's more likely to occur in the database than in a forum. And posting them to the database allows each photo to have more "staying power" than they do in a forum (with an active forum, a photo may slide off the first page in matter of hours.) And you may help someone else ID a plant. All good reasons to post to the PDB, huh?
And (if that's not enough) when you do post to the PDB, it starts a discussion thread and automatically notifies you if someone comments on your photo. Quite honestly, it's easier than posting to a forum.
and we can always link from the geranium (or any) forum to the database forum.
my main worry is theft from the data base. can a no right click program be added to each image posted? or to the whole web site? I've done it to my web site
From what I've read, those right-click prohibitions are fairly simple to circumvent, but at least it would cut down a little on such theft.
Mark,
Do you really think a no-right-click will actually stop people from stealing your images? The PDB is actually more protected than your own site is, and, at your wish, I can demonstrate that.
dave
mark, I just went to your home page and saved the whole thing as a web page and now I have the images on my hard drive. (won't do anything with them, but just so you know, it took less than 5 seconds) :(
