Is MaVieRose around?

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

I haven't seen her posting in the last few days.

Is she on holiday? or just maybe busy...

Has anyone heard from her?

Well, it was still sweet of you to be concerned about our MVR, and I know she appreciated it. A blonde moment can happen to all of us.

MVR = Most Valuable Resource, too :)

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Note about MaVie: I got an e-mail from her last night; the fires are close enough to her that she has her van packed and ready to go at a moment's notice. Everyone pray for her to be spared!

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

She'll be fine, if we all wish the best for her.
I hope the fires don't reach anywhere near her garden, she got so many beautiful plants.

My prayers to MVR... Didn't know that the California fires were out of control, too :(

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks EveryONE :). i am viewing this thread for the first time. i was not even aware of it's existence. i happen to 'bump' into it, trying to find info for someone in need of help.

yes, i was 'invisible' for a while. not of my own liking but during those times, there were fire raging close by... too close for comfort. mind U, not one fire but 2! one after the other.

Thanks for thinking of me. i am deeply touched!!!! u're thoughts and prayers placed an invisible shield to protected me and my neighbors from the fire. Thank YOU!!!!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Isn't it wonderful when we are kept safe by angels we never see or hear? Glad you are safe, MVR, there is only one of you and we can't spare you.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

INDEED! it does Aimée, it is a great feeling to sense and know others cares. Each and Everyone of us are All unique and special in our own ways. :)!

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

We're just all happy that you are not in, nor were in, any acute danger, and also to know that the worst fears have passed.

Plants ok?? Had any new ID's lately??? ;-)

MVR

I'm glad you are safe!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

the fire was too close, particularly on the 1st fire. we were inundated with smoke so badly for nearly a week. we were trap inside the house at the time. but i could not resist, but to go out and take a look how close it was. to give u an idea, how it was... one can only stand to be outside for less than a minute. then one has the feeling of being choked up and eyes becomes so teary and hurts so bad.

all plants are ok. i guess the heavy smoke got rid of all the insects that hang around. it was a blessing a disguise. LOL! sorry not much into IDing of late. been trying to catch up with lost sleep and rest cause by the fire. will try to get caught up one of these days. i love doing research. as much as i help, i do learn in the process too!

Thanks for the thoughts Barry! Deeply appreciate u're thoughtfulness.

MVR - so glad to hear that you are safe and also those around you. I've added my prayers to those already lifted for safety and a quick end to these fires. Angels around you!

Thanks Suzy :)!

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

MVR, after my recent absence due to vacation & other, I second your thoughts on invisible angels :) Glad all is well for you now. An interesting approach to ridding the insects ~ probably one I'll put toward the bottom of my list of things to try. How are the gardens doing now?

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Whew I am so glad MVR are ok.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

it is true smoke does get rid of insects. funny u brought that up Morph :)! in the Philippines, each morning my grandma gather all the broken twigs, and dead leaves. created bonfires around the trees [not allowing the fire to take over, only the smoke to build up]. accdg to her, the smoke get rid of the insects out of the fruit trees she grew around her yard. i find that amusing, and had to prove to myself she is right with her claim. i do manage to climb up the tree when she is not around, to see if the bugs left, and she was righ! but when i get caught, i sure got a good licking with a piece of branch from the tree. she got upset cause girls aren't suppose to climb trees.

bearing that in mind, i had a very embarrashing experienced. when i 1st tried gardening in Ca. where i used to lived, there were avocado and fig trees infested with bugs. one isn't safe to be under the tree, or the bugs fell off the tree into one's head. it was then i tried to put into practice what granny used to do. i gathered fallen twigs and leaves. build several small bonfire around the tree. tried to smoke the tree and watch the bonfire. well what do u know, next thing i know i heard sirens and tall hunky firemen came into the yard... gave me good lessons behind my good intentions. i wasn't fined, or taken to jail, but instead got good lecturing i will remember for the rest of my life. LOL! i wasn't aware at the time that building bonfire was against the law to build bonfire around the trees. Mannnn was my face red out of embarrashment!

the garden is in much better shape now. most of the grubs previously encountered are mostly gone.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

LOL, MVR! You learned the hard way but I'm glad no one chose to press the issue by scaring you with jail time! I suppose I may have tried that, too, if you hadn't mentioned the repercussions of it! Perhaps even your area is more sensitive due to the frequent dryness and unexpected fires?

Would I love to rid our yard of grubs!!! I tried a new product that is supposed to keep those grubs at bay for ten years. I've no idea if it will work, but I applied it none the less. Now, I'm looking for remedies that aren't so chemical oriented. I'm learning bit by bit.

Hope you are doing well ~ is there anything you need?

Regards,
Morph

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Morph... the 1st time and only time i tried the bonfire experiment, i was very young and slim. modesty aside, i guess there was a mutual admiration between me and those handsome, and tall hunky firemen ;).

everything is fine, except for the dry hot weather we have to contend with [not by choice though :)]. garden is growing nice inspite of the challenges. at the moment i have my hands full, until i have to worry come winter cause i do not have a green house. i guess i will be back to sleep with my plants again this coming winter. *giggles*

see u around!!!
