We just got home from my daughter's 8th grade graduation. All the kids went back to the school for a dance afterwards. I can't believe my baby's growing up!!

LOL, my son-in-laws neice just graduated from 8th grade too and wore a beautiful gown I could not have filled out for the senior prom! She was a preschooler when the kids got married! Where does the time go??

Was it the last schoolday yesterday? We had it June 1st.. I'm going to 8th grade next year :å

My twin girls just graduated from 8th grade, but they didn't call it "Graduation"-- they called it "Matriculation."

Don't ask me what the difference is. :-)

Evert, actually the last day of school in our district is today. No regular classes though, just a fun day to watch movies, play games, say goodby to friends, the school is providing a pizza lunch, too. Different school districts have different days for finishing. Most of the schools seem to finish up by the 10th of June, though.
There was a dance at the school after the ceremony that lasted until 11pm (past my bedtime!), and getting her up for school today wasn't an easy task!

Lovely daughter, and she sure does look older. I think kids are developing much faster these days (hormone in our foods) My son is graduating also from 8th grade, but it seems they dont have a ceremony :(, they do however have a ceremony for the honors students, to bestow upon them the award of "achievement of excellence" (isnt that a mouthfull) I am lucky both my kids are getting the award.
My husband and I are both very proud of our children's accomplishment.

Beautiful daughter you have there momcat. I will not show her picture to my son who is 14 also. They would start an email campaign and neither of us would get the computer! LOL!

Jaden graduated from the 8th grade this year, but they don't have a ceremony at the school he's going to. My girls both had a ceremony, but Jaden chose to switch to a bigger school at the start of 7th grade because there were more sports opportunities. I thought that was okay, since his grades are good and sports keep him focused on what he's doing and walking the straight and narrow. He's the type of kid that if he didn't have a reason to keep his grades up and something to keep him busy and occupied, he would be in trouble. So far, so good!

Evert, I saw on another thread where you said you were born 5-88. My son was born 4-88 and he's going into the 9th grade. Do you do school years different there?

Very Beautiful young lady....

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Joan, March 88 ;)

Kids go to the 1st grade when they're 7 years old here. then they have 6 years school in 'lower grades' and then they go to 'upper grades', 7th, 8th and 9th. And 10th grade sometimes if you didn't learn everything. Then comes senior high school (lukio), or ammattikoulu - trading school, and after that you might go to yliopisto - university.

Maybe kids go to school some years earlier there?

my son was born 4/88 also Joan...
our kids start preschool at 3 or 4, then kindergarden at 5, first grade at 6

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

That is what eighth graders look like NOW??? Thank you for the nightmares. I have five little girls to get through life. LOL Okay, who knows where I can buy chastity belts and ugly pills???

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Michele, you are going to have such fun when your little ones get a little older. Especially since they are pretty close together. 4 or 5 prom dresses at a time, along with all the trimmings like professionally styled hair, jewelry, tanning sessions, shoes, professionally done nails.....LOL! Then there's the boy problem! How many phone lines do you have? If you even remotely think you might like to use the phone in a few years, you need more phone lines.

I don't envy you girlfriend. I only had 3 girls and I almost lost my mind during the high school years, even with my step-daughter living with her mom lots of the time.

Okay, I'll stop there until she asks for my help. There's no doubt in my mind that she will ask someday. LOL

Michele, I had three boys and four girls, and I will take the girls over the boys any day. Somehow, the girls seem to take to control better. They are more civilized when they are born, and I say that with the full knowledge that there are mothers ready to tar and feather me. From potty to college, it went easier with the girls. It is worth mentioning that I collected guns for a time, and often had an old S&W on the coffee table dismantled for cleaning, when the boys dropped in to pick up the girls. Being a single parent probably made it more difficult with the boys, but looking at the experiences of friends, I am not sure about that. Yes, these youngsters are maturing earlier physically, and they are learning things earlier than we did, but the old hormones are still predictable. Your close relationship is your best bet. This young lady reminds me of a song, "Too Old For Toys, Too Young For Boys", and the next line was "What the heck am I gonna do?" So lovely so young, how exciting to be a teen today.

Aimee, I didnt realise you had so many kids! wow, and you did it singlehandedly. I'm duly impressed. I have a hard enough time with just 2, how on earth did you manage?

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Hehehe, Pebble, I just didn't have any choice, so I never looked up to see if I was able to handle it. To this day, I wonder myself if everyone got fed, bathed, put to bed and sent to school. It all went by in a blur, and then it was done. Thanks for appreciating the single status, that was a bit different and often a strain. But there was less to worry about when it came to who was boss.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Aimee, I suspect, that you did what had to be done, and didnt even realise what a magnanamous thing you were doing.
(having used that lovely word, I had to look it up.. I wasnt sure if I was using it correctly - lol, but I guess it fits...it means noble... - I was thinking it meant someting so big, larger than life.. but the real meaning fits better - I often find words that sound so good, and use them weather they mean what I mean them to mean or not, and my friends have learned to sift thru my vocabulary..)
Aimee, I think you probably don't give yourself the credit that you deserve, so on this fathers day my dear, I wish you a happy father's day, because you were "father" and "mother" to your children.
cheers to you my dear!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, Pebble, I was going to ignore that day, but now you must endure a story. One of my DDs decided quite a few years ago that I should get a gift and a card for Father's Day, so it became a little fun thing in our family. One year, my second son found a card that said " When I grow up, I want to be just like you,", and then inside it said, "but maybe I'll skip shaving. I hate blood!"

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

LOL Aimee....
