I guess he wanted a shower. He was crawling up the metal part of the shower door in the down stairs bathroom. An 8 inch snake. the underside was orange. DH picked it up and threw it in one of my flower beds. You know the weeds will grow in that bed. About 10 years ago I was home alone and using the vacuum, found one under a throw rug, same kind. I sucked him up and threw the vacuum out the door.
Visitor dropped in to take a shower
i can not stand snakes. to me the only good one is a dead one. i try not to kill those that i know are harmless but they can really make you hurt yourself. my girlfriend had one in her laundry room not long ago and called DH to help. It turned out to be a 5 ft cotton mouth. she has a 3yr old and how she did not stumble in ot it we will only guess the good Lord abouve kept her safe.
Many years ago when I was still living at the ranch in a cabin style house, with lots of places for unwanted critters to get in, we had been gone for a few days. When we got home my DH at the time went immediately to check on the livestock. I went straight to the laundry room and started sorting out of the hamper. A baby rattlesnake crawled out from under it. I went to the garage and got a hoe and chopped him up in tiny pieces, then to the fridge for a beer and waited outside for him to get home and get rid of it. I hate snakes too. They scare me to death.
Oh my goodnes...I can see you now,had you been in the shower and THEN saw it crawling up.It was a lot easier to get rid of than your BAT..LOL
No Gin, I wasn't in the shower. If I had been, you would have come to my funeral. Granddaughter Jessica saw it first and yelled for me and I yelled for DH. Yes,it was much faster to catch the snake than the bat. I remember that night I kept you up on MSN talking untill we found and caught the bat. I should say DH caught it.
This is just horrible!! I live where there are no poison snakes, but I am phobic, so the smaller the snake, the worse I react. Yesterday, the neighbor boy came and collected about 10 garter snakes form my gardens. He takes them home for "pets." Last year, one got into my house, and I about had a heart attack! I ran to the bathroom with my dog, locked the door (luckily I grabbed the phone) and screamed! I called the neighbor and the kids came and chased the little snake all over my house while Thor and I hid in the bathroom, me about to throw up! After they caught it and got it out, I duct taped all the furnace vents, and every little tiny hole I could find. Went through two rolls of tape. My husband was at sea and laughed his a** off when he got home and saw the duct tape on everything! I think it's funny, too, now, but I sure didn't think so when it happened. I am getting better now, I think, but it has been a life long problem. One of the reasons I loved Alaska so much - NO SNAKES!
Penny4, That was funny. but not when it is happening to you. I'm guessing your husband is or was in the Navy. You learn to do things on your own when they are gone. My DH retired from the Marine Corps in 1967. I've fixed a few things when he was gone that looked stupid or silly. You do what you have to.

lizh, my DH is actually a Merchant Marine, Chief Engineer, Unlimited. That means he is gone for two months and home for two months, and currently is working on ocean-going tugs. His job is to make sure the giant diesel engines run well (computerized these days) and all other shipboard equipment is up to par. He's like Scotty on Star Trek! :O Right now he is up in Valdez, Alaska, working at escorting oil tankers into and out of the port there. He has been gone as long as four months. But now he is on a regular schedule, 8 wks on/8wks off, which I like. Yes, it is amazing what you can do if you have to!! I finally stopped working when we moved down here just to take care of things here, and to be available when he is home. If I worked, I'd never see him! And we both like to travel with our trailer.
We moved here from Alaska some four years ago now. Had to for his job. He loves what he does, and I love him. So the absences aren't too bad. I'm pretty used to it now. If he stays too long, I get "crowded" HA!!! ;) I am very proud of him, as he has studied and gone to school for many years to do what he is doing now. He's a good guy!
Oh Penny, So you have a "Honeymoon" every eight weeks. That sounds great.
I like snakes but am sure I don't want one that can kill crawling on me.
Yes, lizh, it can be a nice situation - until something breaks down!! Then it is a matter of calling in a pro or doing it myself, or living without; depends on what it is. And also DH tends to forget that I "go on living" when he is away. Sort of like the earth stands still in his absence. A common affliction with hubbies who are gone for long periods, I think. But all in all, I like it pretty well. The positives outway most of the negatives.
Honibee, if a snake touched me I'd die of a heat attack, so I guess for me they are ALL dangerous! HA! ;)
Joan, if I had that happen.... well, I just don't even want to consider it!! When this little guy came in last year, I did bring the edging tool inside and place it in the crock we use for an umbrella stand. I was mad by then (the duct tape was sooo ugly) and thought I might be able to kill it. Lucky for him, he never showed up again. Probably got the scare of his life with me screaming like that and children chasing him.
Hey, I don't mind snakes if they're not poisonous, but I am a big sissy when it comes to hornets, wasps, and yellowjackets. Any aggressive stinging insect like that makes me really nervous! I used to run screaming from any bee or wasp, but now I can sit still, sweating it out and poised to jump up and run, unless one comes at me. Bumblebees don't bother me unless they come at my head; I know they're into the flowers and will leave me alone.
The worst for me is going to get-togethers outdoors in August and September, height of yellowjacket season (if that's what they are). I hate how they get on my food, in my drinks...Ugh. I'd just as soon stay inside than make a fool of myself over these darned things. :(
I for one could never figure out why people run screaming a the site of a mouse.
