Tropicals: Ginger

My ginger plants are getting brown tips...any suggestions?
Thanks!

dale, where are they planted? what kind of ginger is it? lots of gingers prefer a filtered shade area. Some can't tolerate too much sun at all, esp. evening sun. Could your ginger possibly have sunburn?

Ditto what Lisa said, plus have they gotten too dry?

Just plain ol' green ginger that my mailman gave me. I have never grown it before and he brought me some cuttings. It is in filtered shade and gets water. It may have gotten dry, but not terribly so....

I have a question too. My white ginger lily is in full sun and she is doing fine, but our summers aren't quite as intense as in FL. A friend in coastal NC gave these to me last summer in bloom in August. I have kept them green all year in the greenhouse and planted them in the ground about a month ago. Should I expect blooms near August again?

schmetterling, you should have blooms if the ginger didn't die back during the winter. Lots of gingers bloom on last years growth, so if yours made it through the winter you should be graced with flowers.

If it's butterfly ginger it should bloom in August. Mine does and it's hardy here, dying back to the ground and returning in the spring. I brought some into the green house to see if it made a difference. Lots of the non hardy ones though are like Lisa said, they won't bloom if they get frozen. My red one is getting ready to bloom now, I bring it in before frost.
