no updates on watched threads...again

what causes the no thread updates? Seems like it happens to mine alot.

first they werent there and then. a few minutes after posting this . there were 3. ???? GGGRRRRRR

I've had the same thing happening. I hold down the CTRL key and hit refresh to get the page to load "new". I am not sure how Mac's do this.

this is from starting up the computer fresh.

I just noticed. I have 9 comments on the peony I posted. One would think I would of receiver at least ONE notice that something had happened.

We don't send mails out anymore. The only notifications that occur happen as a table on the homepage. It appears above the forum list. Click the DG Logo (upper right corner) to be taken to that page. If you are watching any threads, they will appear at the top of the resulting page.

I realize you don;t send out emails anymore. you haven;t done that in a long time. lots of times they do not appear at top of page . HONEST!

mingsmimi, how are you navigating? Is it by:

a) clicking on a link, then hitting the "back" button to get back the home page? or

b) are you possibly going to the Forums page instead of the Dave's Garden page? (they are two different links on the right)

If you're doing either of these, you won't see notices of updated threads. I almost always hit "Dave's Garden" to go back to the home page after I've looked at a thread. That way, any updates will show up at the top of the page.

ok. Like for instance. now/ On my welcome home page....This thread is not listed. its not under computer talk either. BUT,. If I go to it through the Members page. and click on the threads I am watching. its listed there...and I never put this under Daves garrden to begin with. it was under computer talk. now its here. have no idea why it would even be here.

That's two questions there. :)

Anyway, the main thing to understand is that the threads only show up on the homepage if there are new postings. If there have been no new posts since you last visited the thread, then it won't show up on your homepage.

When you look at the list under your member page, however, all watched threads show up, whether they are "new" or not.

The second question was regarding how the thread ended up in this forum: I moved it here myself, and I sent you an E-mail to let you know. Did you not receive the mail from me?

And to clarify a wee bit further, if you post a reply to a thread you're watching, you won't see an update notice on your homepage.

(and it doesn't matter whether there is one new reply or 100 since you last viewed a thread you're watching; you'll only see one update notice at the top of your home page :)

Dave, as of 8:50 last nite. there was no "e' from you.

just checked again and nothing as of yet . and the newsletter says Data Base Error invalid SQL and goes on from there. ,,,,,,,,

I moved this thread over to the DG Forum on June 3rd at 11:59am EDT. The system automatically sent you a message to your email address, alerting you to this. The message was delivered successfully to your host at 11:59:02 EDT. Once the mail has been accepted by your ISP, it's out of my hands. The message ID was LAA02626, if you'd like to follow up with your ISP to find out what went wrong.

yeah! i'd be interested to see what went wrong too. Doersn;t make sence that I get e's from go_vols. and not that. I get my newsletters..(2 today) I am on the cable. so. I get it fast too. Anything I can do to help. Let me know.

It's hotmail, ming. If indeed you didn't receive the mail from me on June 3rd, there must have been a problem on their end at that time. My system shows it was delivered successfully. It's hotmail's problem.

And everyone got 2 newsletters yesterday. It was because the first one was messed up. Today only one was sent to you, it was sent this morning at exactly 1:18:50am EDT. If you got a duplicate, it's because your software or the website where you access your mail has copied it into a duplicate.

All this means is that there is nothing for me to fix, since it's operating correctly on my side. If mail problems continue to persist for you, it may be time to find a new mail host, like yahoo.com or something.

I got 2 today! I got 2 yesterday cuz of the mess up. I had newsletters everywhere! lol....Must be hotmail then. Oh well. Seems odd though. What ever. can;t do anything about it.

mingsmimi, you can do something about it. I would report these problems to my Hotmail, if I were you. I recently had a situation where a member here kept getting the same message from me dozens of times. She kept emailing me, begging me to stop sending them. (I had no idea what she was talking about, LOL.) When we got to the bottom of it, her email service had gotten in a loop, and was sending the same message over and over. If she hadn't contacted them, who knows how long it would have taken them to find and fix the problem?

There should be a customer support email address or website on your Hotmail page. You can send them the details Dave provided above, and ask them to research what happened to the missing email; also ask them about the duplicates you received this morning. Much better to nip problems in the bud :)

nip in bud...cute! no pun intended...lolol. I will look into that. I posted my mail for today . as you can see. they came back to back. I'll look into it. Odd . no one else had that trouble. Maybe Poppy sue. I think she has hotmail too. i'll have to e her and see if she got 2 today. Who knows. Appreciate all the help

Its 9:31. still havent gotten thread update from 8:49ish on hollyhocks. Why doesn;t my threads update>I click on watch this thread. It doesnt; come up on the list where Most of them do. I don;t understand why some come up adn some do not.

A few ideas on what might have happened:

1. You created this thread approximately 12 minutes before someone replied. I don't know for sure how quick a thread watch kicks in; it is probably instantaneous, but it might take a few minutes. (The old adage "a watched pot never boils" comes to mind :) But assuming it starts watching the thread immediately...

2. After you created the message, did you return to the DG "Home" page before you checked on the thread? If you didn't, by the time you went to the Home page, you had already seen the reply, so it wouldn't trigger the updated thread notice.

3. Did you perhaps view the forums from the "Forums" page? I don't think the "forums" page will show your watched threads.

4. If you used the "back" arrow button to go to the Home page, you didn't see the most recent update. Only if you click on the DG logo or "Dave's Garden" link will you see the most updated view, including your watched threads messages.

Beyond that, I give up. Some of it could have to do with how fast your ISP server is working in conjunction with this website. Or Dave may be able to identify other possible reasons.

I mostly always get a listing that threads are updated on the WelcomeHome page. Usually. but. like not on the hollyhock one. but. If I go into Members page and click on threads you are watching . there is an update there. But no listing at the Welcome home page. but usually.95% of the time There is a listing on the Welcome Home page. Is that not what everyone else has> I dont understand how it have a listing so often. and then not. makes no sence. I am no computer wizzard. but. .....Its not rocket science. Its either there or it isn;t and most of the time it is.you follow me> I am not whining. I can look at the other page. just trying to find a reason why it is ther sometimes and not other times.

I see no reason why it's not working. I fixed the watcher once and for all a few months ago and it's working 100% rock solid for me and everyone else.

I honestly have no idea why it's not working 100% for you. It must be a problem on your end, (vols gave some good ideas above). There is nothing I can do on this side as long as it's working 100% for me. I'm watching a lot of threads and I would know if it was inconsistently working.

I'm sorry I don't have better news. I've done everything I can do on this case.
