Texas rain and hail

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Well, we got an inch and a half out of the other storm two nights ago, but we still needed more. Got some a minute ago! It came with a little bit of hail, but no biggie ~ not huge hail and I don't think it did any damage. I'm so glad!!!!! Off to check the garden to make sure...

considering our hail is usually about the size of a marble, you did get big hail!! LOL

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

Biggest hail I ever saw, hope there wasn't any damage. We have some one time about half that size and it ruined cars.

Aw Wingnut............you shoulda seen the hail that beat the heck outta my roof in April.........softball size!!
Just glad the cars were in, and we were too!!

Where are you seeing hail? I have decided it must be what I thought was the stumps of two candles on the table.

wow - those are pretty darned big...

LOL, Eyes! And Aimee! *grin* Those candle stumps are on a regular sized paper towel (the el-cheapo kind, not the mega-mondo expensive ones). I guess I should have put a penny next to them for scale, huh?

I was out there gettin' some pictures of the clouds when it started dropping. I couldn't believe it! I heard the first couple "Thunks!" and thought it was just the high wind knocking left-over pecans out of the trees and onto the barns. Then I saw one bounce on the ground and thought the smart thing to do would be to make a run for the house. But you can't just pass up a great photo op, so I had to bend over and grab a couple of the bigger ones on my way in! Most of what dropped were marble sized, but about one in fifty were big like those in the pic. And no damage at all! Even all my 'maters are still on the vines! Woo-hoo!

"Don't believe everything you hear, and only half of what you see". I thought I was seeing one thing and someone else thought it was something else, and it was something different altogether. Glad you clarified it!

LOL, Aimee! I just looked at the pic again and they do kinda' look like candle stumps! Especially in the thumbnail above. But they were definitely ice! It's so strange when it starts falling, isn't it? Did you get any?

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Not that I know about. I did have a lot of really high winds, and things were slamming against the house. It sounded like Mack trucks hitting, but maybe it was itty bitty hail?

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

I'll bet it was hail, Aimee! When I got back in the trailer it did sound LOTS louder. The big stuff just lasted a few minutes, then had smaller following it and then just rain. The hail was over in about ten minutes.

So glad you didn't have any damage. I saw the title and my heart sank. We have about one hail storm a year here. It usually tears everything up, especially my hostas and brugs.

I saw an Austin paper last night, and it showed workmen clearing away a big oak tree that blew over in the storm. That wasn't a small or weak tree, so the wind must have been as fierce as I thought.

We are due (maybe ) for the same thing here today, sure hope that they are wrong, my new iris, from trades 2 years ago are in bud and some just starting to bloom-hope not to get the mess we got 2 years ago. Please keep fingers crossed and I am so happy that neither your body or your garden got injured!

MG, I wish you gentle rain, followed by the warmth of the sun during the day and the cool of spring in the evening, with just enough breeze to keep the skeeters from biting. Then I wish for you an award winning display of my favorite flower, the iris.
