for my quilter buddies

I promised to get a pic of my hankie quilt for Elena and Kathleen...so here it is. I actually forgot to get it out when Elena was at the house!

It is made from family heirlooms(yeah,I just can't seem to get off of that theme)And while it is put together and backed,it isn't quilted yet.I pulled it out of the closet...where it was keeping all of my other unfinished projects company, and snapped a pic of it. Please ignore that my grass needs mowing and my front porch needs painting!

It is also, wrinkled, but as it is going back into the depths of that black hole I call my project closet,I didn't steam it.

If you want to see something really nice, ask Kathleen to show you her project. She's good gals!

wow, that is just too cool. I haven't got the slightest clue on how to quilt........one thing no one ever showed me how to do :(
That is really pretty!!!

Mel, that is gorgeous! I'm going to show Julia - I don't think she's finished the one she started last fall yet. Maybe this will inspire her!

Flo - quilting isn't hard - just jump in and do it. If you have some questions, send them along - I know a few things and Melody knows a lot of things and there are several others who would be happy to spread the joy around, I'm sure!

well, will just have to take you up on that offer soon :)
Have to get my sewing machine to work right first though.....LOL.......it has a mind of it's own but then again, I bought it at a yardsale for $5 and the lady said it didn't work but it does, just every now and then it throws a little fit and the bobbin gets all tangled up

Gosh Mel, that is beautiful!!!1 I am glad you got it out and took the picture. Thanks. Are those all old handerchiefs from your collection. Have you ever seen another quilt like that or was that your original idea?
If your porch needs painting it doesn't show. Your place is beautiful, by the way. Love that front porch.

Melody, that is simply beautiful! I have two that my great grandmother made-all by hand. One was made out of all of her childrens old clothes, once they were worn out. They were poor farmers and she made that one out of necessity. I have another she made out of new fabric that has never been used. I think I like the first one the best. :) One of these days, quilting is going to be on my to-do list as well! Yours is beautiful!

The hankies are from my collection, but are special ones.4 belonged to the now DG famous Mama Hall(maternal g'mother)Some belonged to Keith's Grandmothers.2 were my mom's when she was a little girl.My cousin gave me 2. They are all old,but they all have a story. These were kept separate from the rest of my collection.I saved all of the family ones together because I wanted to use them in some sort of project. The idea came in an old quilter's magazine. There was a picture of one very similar and I decided then and there that this was my project.

I have tons of old hankies, but most came from estate auctions and such. These were kept in an old hatbox and carefully moved whenever I did over the years. Now,I have them all together and they'll always be where we can remember and enjoy.
