Chipmunks like black pepper?!
I heard it was the red ccayan pepper they didn't like. I wonder if either one is true!

crushed or powdered cayenne works well for the squirrels..It takes a week or so for them to figure out what's hot and then they leave the birdseed alone on our feeders, birds love it and it's good for them..Don't know about it working around plants.

Birds can't taste the cayenne pepper, and their metabolism can handle it easily.
I've got rid of many animals from my MIL's garden with cayenne, even deer.
