It is 36 foot long and the round size as sausage. It has shiny bluish/grey not know what it is so beautiful color want to take picture but it is bloody all over look nasty. I never see that kind snake here before so thank goodness my cat did not get hurt or me or my new puppy, so relief.
Scare me death.
36 feet long, Redrose? WOW! That was a whopper! *grin* SO glad you're okay!!!
Can you take a pic of a not-so-nasty part and post it? We might could identify it for you. From the way you describe it, it sounds kind of like a cottonmouth water mocassin ~ do you have any water nearby? Was it's mouth real white inside? Sounds like you got a good look at the inside of that part of it. ;-P!
Again, SOOOOOOOOOOO glad you and puppy and kitty are all okay!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry throw it away and the garbage man pick it up and gone this morning and it has pink inside mouth and it is not water mocassin , my DH think it might be "Blue Runner" not sure. No > not water nearby and never see that kind of snake here before and here see King Snake not poison can pick up this kind of snake it has black with yellow spots good snake to kill poison snakes.
gotta ask, surely you meant 36 inches? 36 feet is half the length of my house, and I would not have been able to scream for anyone!!! even 36" is enough snake to set me to quivering!
Hi RedRose,
It sounds like a Blue Runner to me. A Black snake is black with no blue. The Blue Runners have an irredesent blue hue to them. Glad everyone is fine.
rose that must have been a shocker...glad you and your pets are fine. i smiled as i read your post....you went from terrible fear to admiration of the lovely colors of the snake....if i saw a snake ...any snake....i would keel over....i'm still trying to cope with earth worms 36 mm long and oh so deadly looking to me....) i have a real phobia about bugs and snakes and rodents which i am doing my best NOT to pass on to my children so when i see these fear-full critters in the garden i do my best to stay chipper in front of the kids and point out the good in the creature, leave them to enjoy and study God's special creation.....then i run behind the shed and do a secret "freaky ooogy creepy critter dance" denouncing the beast......away from the eyes of children (and neighbours i hope, i do soooooo hope) .....slugs....all i have to do is think of the times i have touched one by accident with bare fingers....oh my gosh....i feel the dance starting *jitterbug*...heehee!
Mummyof4dolls (who fears creepers, hoppers, slitherers, wigglers, slimers, flutterers,scooters.....etc etc etc.)
LOL, I laughed myself feel so stupid I mean 3 1/2 foot long not 36 foot "he he he" thanks TIG =D

Never mind, Debbie, I am sure it looked about 100 feet to you.
Blue runners? I don't think I've ever heard of one of those! I'm sure Kenny knows what it is, though. Redrose, I figured you either meant it was 36 inches or that it looked 36 feet long from where you were standing! LOL! I know that there are many good snakes and you really shouldn't kill first and ID later, but if I saw one raring up at me showing fangs, he'd be a dead snake, good or bad. Ooooooo *SHUDDER*!! DON'T like them snakes of any kind. I've gotten my fear of them under control enough that if it's more than 20 feet from me, I won't freak immediately, but I still yell rather loudly for Kenny while being scared stiff right where I am. ;-)
Kenny's MUCH more calm around them. We were walking in the field last year and while jumping across a creek Kenny almost stepped on a bull snake (King snake?). The following happend in a split second: the snake jumped up with mouth wide open aiming straight for Kenny who was right above it, one foot on each side of it, then Kenny jumped up and off it like a piece of popcorn in a frying pan! I was standing there screaming like a teenaged girl about rattlesnakes and ambulances and fangs and antivenom until Kenny got ahold of me and said, "It was just a bull snake and it didn't get me! I'm okay!" God, I still get the heebies just thinking of it! LOLOLOLOL!!!
Now, now, just calm down! Yesterday I was walking in after a long watering session, quite tired, and happened to see one of the pretty little green snakes that always hang around here. Several years ago, before I enclosed the greenporch, I saw one in my Norfalk Island Pine, and it hung around for several weeks before leaving me a skin. So yesterday I saw its descendant, wending its way up a jasmine patch, and almost invisible with that perfect shade of green. I picked it up, which didn't make the poor little thing happy, and stroked its back, telling it how welcome it is in my garden, and to rest assured I will not harm its offspring. Being a snake, which don't have ears, it heard none of my cooings, and thrust itself away from my hand at the earliest opportunity. If I am lucky, I will see one of the pretty blue ones before the summer is over. They aren't as regular.
I grew up with an odd assortment of animals and birds in the house because my mom was into exotic pets, but I don't like being surprised by snakes outside! Ack!!
Could have been an "Indigo" snake, vary pretty blue, and harmless.
larkie
WOW, snakes so cool *LOL* here we only have the common garden snake... but inside thats another story. we have snakes as pets :-)
wingnut the bullsnake is not a kingsnake.. I have two sonoran gopher snakes, ( they also call them bullsnake here)
plus one rosi boa and one boa constrictor.. well the big one belongs to DH!
I also had two corn snake and a black rat snake, and one more gophersnake. from the two gophers I had twice eggs, after incubation baby snakes *LOL*
Even though I had a pet snake (black rat snake), and lots of wild garter ones around growing up, I would be terrified to meet a big unknown one outside. Mummy, I loved your description of the dance I do when I find a big, ravening bug, spider, slug, etc. Have you been watching me? LOL
Southern snakes are more commonly poisonous than the ones up here. Up here, the only 2 poisonous ones are protected by law as endangered! Someone who killed a rattler who was threatening them was prosecuted! Go figure.
Isn't that nuts? Like the daggoned Canada geese that are such a nuisance everywhere...It's illegal to shake their eggs without a special permit (if you shake their eggs and leave them in the nest, they'll incubate the "dead" eggs for the entire season and won't lay more).
A regular old garden snake sends me for the bottle of valium and I shake for a week. Scared to death of em.
hey Rose, 36 inches is plenty of snake!!!!! my SIL has boa constrictors and one is about 7' long. When he put it in my front yard and it started crawling, I nearly wet my pants! and this was a tame snake, if there is such a thing!
I would have thought it looked 360 feet long, can't stand snakes in the open. in a zoo, they're okay.
Oooops! I asked Kenny and he said he thought at the time it was a Bull Snake, but not thinks it was a Coach Whip. I don't know either from adam, but I know I don't like them and that one was HUGE! Even looking at pictures makes me uneasy, but I've been doing that very thing lately ~ I need to get control of this fear and being able to ID good from bad will help with that.
holy cow i would have passed out on the spot!! either that or screamed myself hoarse then passed out! then-my mother would never visit my house again!
glad you are okay. i wonder how it got there. hate to scare ya silly, but I wonder if it laid any eggs nearby? I would have someone check just to make sure. if so, better get rid of them ASAP! or take pics first, then get rid of them. :-)
My friend had snake of Bull Snake so the color just like Rattle Snake so it is not poison so she bought a baby Bull Snake real pretty color paid $10.00 and had them less 3 months died don't know why so, Some snakes the color pretty but hate to touch things like that so my boys used to had pet is Quater Snakes and Bright green snake with red eyes forgot name so I told the boys, I am freak out not inside house no way so put outside the shed so afterwhile they get tired of take care of it so let them go free.
