Morning Glory Bush

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I got a start of this from KayJones and also from MsJen. I've got one in each of the Tropical beds. This isn't the best photo of the blooms, but thought I'd share it with y'all this morning. The gold bugs are eating the leaves and I guess I'm going to have to spay the leaves with pyrethurm.

jen

Blue sounds beautiful too. I'll have to beg a piece off of her.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

cala, i found 2 pairs of those goldbug beetles on my mgb this spring, both pairs were mating! squashed them, haven't seen one since. i have been meaning to ask you about these little oblong, bluish green beetle things that don't seem to fly. they get in the top of my brugs, i mash them too, lots more of them though.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

There's a blue one?Is there a white one?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

CC, yes, they are metalic looking. They are bad, bad bugs. They eat things in the Ipomea family and seem to like brugs too. Darned bugs. They make holes all over the leaves, makes them ugly.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I was talking about the flowers ,not the bugs...LOL,to cold here for bugs........

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

OH, **blushing** feel so silly. Guess I'll pay attention next time!

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Cala is yours pink or is that the lighting cause I have a lavender one. Have been trying to find it in other colors.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

okay, while we're talking about these bugs!! do these look like gold/orange ladybugs? no spots on back?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Dee
Mine is pink. Baby pink. I would love to have a lavender one too. I think I'll try rooting some cuttings.

Hey,
Are we talking about a Morning Glory Tree? Some where in this yard is a pink and a lavender...no blue. The blue Morning Glory was a vine but it died.

CC....There is a white Morning Glory Tree but I don't have it. I believer you can buy the seeds at Seedman.com. This place is about 30 miles up the road from me but they won't let you go to their place....everything thing has to be mailed.

Here is what I copied from Seedman.com:

9609 MORNING GLORY TREE. IPOMOEA ARBORESCENS

A thick stemmed and twining shrub to 10' with the most gorgeous six inch wide white flowers. The base becoming caudexed with age. Very unusual.
Package of 5 seeds $3.50

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

this is the kind i have, and i believe dee's is like this. really pretty. http://www.nursery-report.com/ImageGallery/PlantPicDet.asp?Plant_ID=I0115

Arlene,
Do you have the White?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Cala, Kay sent me some seeds for a morning glory bush and some of the seeds grew with green leaves and some with variegated leaves. The one with variegated leaves is about 5 or 6 inches tall and under the leaves the stem is covered with buds. Haven't seen one open yet. Not sure they have room to open. Have a couple of plants I got from Gloria in Ohio too. They have been set back due to mites, but I think they will be okay. Hope one of mine has the pink blooms. Very pretty.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I didn't know they made seeds. I'll have to watch for those too. I would love to get a variegated one.
OK, hope I'm not off on another obsession, lol. Guess it would fit under my general obsession of "Tropicals".

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Glory, no i don't have the white. the really neat thing about these seeds, although my plants didn't make seeds last year, someone had sent me seeds, which came up and they were hairy, like animal fur!

LOL,
Arlene you are right....they do look like little animals.

So who is going to beg for the White Morning Glory Tree seeds? Should I?

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Yup Arlene, mine is like that. I thought so when I saw yours. Mine grew to about 9 ft last year. Cala, all you have to do to root them is whack them off put in water (or in the ground right now) they get those white nubby things like brugs and confederate rose. Wonna make a trade your pink for my purple?? I think we need the white to go with it. Ya know you just gotta have one in every color.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I think I'll order the white seeds, maybe 2 packs and split them between us......

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Gloria, I vote for you, besides you are closer, maybe get some down home charm working.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Cala, when my variegated gets big enough to take cuttings, I'll try to do some up. Surely it will start growing when the weather warms up.

Hey Dee,
When are you coming this way again?

Gloria

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Dee, I'll start us all a pink one. OK, how many cuttings do I need to take?

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Gloria, I will be over in Jun when I get back from CA. I have your Missouri Marble, and it has buds. Guess it likes it here. I will let you know when and bring it with me.

Cala I want a pink, Brugie I want a variegated one (am I whining enough??)

Who would like a lavender one so I can make starts?? If I do now they should be ready when I get back from CA.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I can't say that I want any yet, because I don't know what I've got. Just know they are morning glory bushes. How's that for knowing my plants? :-) I'll start what I can and let you know. Remind me if you don't hear from me......senior moments are lasting for weeks now......LOL!!

Dee,
Are you going to stop by here on you way home? I have some of those seeds I got from that Brugs in Ca if you would like some? Is there anything else you are looking for that I might have? LMK

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I got mine from MsJen so I gotta find out from her what color it is.....

CC,
Jen got it from me....it's either pink or lavender.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

okay, who had them in the buckets of water in FL?? that's where I got mine. don't know what color, so I don't know what to beg for!

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Yep Gloria, will stop on my way home. Be by myself this time. DD's hubby is back from Kosovo now so she is preoccupied at the moment. sure do miss my boy though. Sure I would like to try a couple of seeds if you have any left by then. Not had much luck with brug seeds, but I keep trying. You know I am always on the look out for something I don't have. Is there anything that I can bring you? LMK

tiG, I had them in the bucket of water so what you have are the lavender ones.

Dee,
Let me know when you are going to be here...so far I'm staying home the rest of the summer.
I'm sure you do miss your grandson....he is a cuttie and such a good little boy.
Let me know what exciting you get while in the San Diego area....I already have some Brug seeds with your name on them.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Will do Gloria, I will try to confiscate dd's computer while I am there and post some things. Gotta learn how to post pictures on the web though. Don't have that down yet. Haven't needed to, I have a web slave, remember. He isn't going to CA, so I will have to do it on my own.

Dee,
If I can post pictures on the computer anyone can. LOL

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Alright Gloria, how do I do it. Got the red justicia and want to show you.

Dee,
Do you know where the picture is downloaded in your computer?

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Gloria, yes I do.

Dee,
I new you could figure it out.

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

I have the baby pink morning glory bush. It has just started to bloom. I am going to watch for seed. So far it isn`t big enough to get a limb cutting from. I would like to have a lavender one also.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Hi, everyone. I would like cuttings of a white morning glory bush if anyone has extras. Thanks. Kay
