Wonderful! And congrats, too! I can't wait 'til I get to post a similar message ~ my dinosaur's still hangin' in there and I had been thinking that I'd hate to spend a bunch of $$ I really don't have unless it's completely dead. BUT, I found a new excuse to justify a new 'puter ~ if anything happens to the new one, I'll still have this old one to hook up while the other's getting fixed. No jonesin' for DG, then! LOLOL!!
Thanks guys!!! Flo.there's volumes I don't know about computers, but I just keep plugging along and surprising myself....Oh I didn't know I could do that........How did I do that???????? LOL....still I'm having a blast!!

Hey, congrats! Isn't it fun getting a new toy? The new software that comes with a new system is always fun to putter around with. :)
Sure is and I'm really excited with the Windows XP!!!!

so happy for you eyes. my son got me a new e-machine with upgrades cdrw, scanner, and printer. software and I am learning new things every day. I too, have windows xp I really like it .I don't know enough to know any difference :)
Hey, Eyes! I got a new EMachine earlier this week!! Eee-haw! Doncha' love XP?!
YeeeeeeHawwwwwwww..................doing the happy dance for you Linda!!!!!

Isn't XP nice?! Weezingreens was having trouble with her version of it, but she got hers last year, so maybe they hadn't worked out all the bugs yet? I think that after they work out the bugs, they ought to have a trade-in program so those who paid good money for the first versions can get the "new and improved" one. That's what happened to me with Windows '98 ~ got it right after it came out and it sucked. Took it to Computer Nerds and they fixed it (kind of) and showed me how to live with it. What a pain that was!
yipeeeee [[[[[[[[nana]]]]]]]]]]
Eyes, congrats on the new computer. Yes, I've had my problems with XP. We got ours last fall, so everything was quite new. The biggest problem was that none of my old program software was compatible. I ended up buying a new printer and scanner. After several months, a fixer was available for my digital camera.
Now that I've got my programs loaded, I enjoy lots of the features, especially concerning photos. Contrary to what they tell you, you can "lock it up". I've done it several times...much like the "illegal act" of Windows 98.
Tell me more Weezy!!
"eyes"
I'm listening, too, Weez. I wonder if you contacted Microsoft if they would let you trade in the old version for the newer one? I haven't come across any locking up issues yet, but I've only been playing on it for a few days.
I never seem to have much trouble with locking up until I try to use anything from my "F" drive, the CD burner. I have to transfer all info to the "C" drive to work on it, but just having the "F" drive open can cause difficulty.
I don't really understand this compartmentalized "C/D" drive. On the Windows 98, it was just a C drive. I guess I need to read more about XP.
Every once in awhile, I will get a message telling me that the system is experiencing difficulties. It more or less wishes me a hardy "Bye, bye", then shuts down. All unsaved data is history. As in most systems, it is important to save often.
I subscribed to a site that sends me email info on XP, but I've never heard of a new version... only fixers. Is there really a revised edition?
I really don't know, Weez ~ was just surmising since it's been some months since XP came out and I'm going on what BIL the tecchie said. According to him, they release a new version of Windows, get feedback, tweek it and re-do the "master tapes" when they make further copies for sale ~ and offer fixers/updates for people who've already bought. I don't have a CD burner (you dawg! I wanted one but didn't have the duckets ~ now I'm jealous! LOL!), but did buy all new scanner, printer, etc., since I didn't have any extras with my other 'puter but an old burnt out printer. So maybe since I wasn't hooking up existing equipment I didn't notice problems that way?
Yes, Wingnut, I think that is the issue. If you have existing components you want to use, the new XP isn't often compatible. If you are starting out with new components, you don't have that problem.
From time to time, Windows will offer updates to my existing XP system, so we download the updates. I'm not the only one to have problems with XP... check out some of the other threads. As time goes by, these issues become apparent, and Microsoft attempts to correct. It was just my luck to be on the cutting edge. That doesn't happen too often!
Well, doesn't that suck?! I hope I don't end up cussing this thing. It's only been a week and so far so great! But...
I had problems immediately, and some of those were not the fault of the XP system. We made the mistake of buying the last unit they had... the floor model. They had alread started loading the programming, so the usual stupid-proof program start wasn't there for us. Besides that, the computer geek kid on the floor entered a password and we didn't have it, so we battled for two days to talk to a real person at the store and get it straightened out. It was generally a mess. We just couldn't load anything, so we sent the harddrive down to our local tech school to have the computer programming class load it for us.
There are still several problems I'm having, but nothing I can't live with. I sure like the easy access to photo images, etc, so I guess it's all a trade-off and a learning experience.
Ah!-uck! Did you get a good deal on it atleast? Yep, the photo downloading is great! And it comes with a lot more stuff than my old Windows 98 did like Microsoft works. I also like that you can save things you're working on in Paint as something other than a .bmp file. And it's neat that Outlook Express has a list of your address book addresses right there on the side! I still haven't played with everything yet, but I keep finding neat things about it every day.
I hadn't noticed the Save options in Paint. I only seem to use that to save a wallpaper to my desktop. I seem to remember the address book listing on the right side of Outlook Express in my old Windows 98, but I can't recall... I just love these Senior Moments.
;-P!
The only previous hardware that I am using is my printer, which is only 5 mos. old. A lexmark Z32/Z22 color jet. My grandson is biting at the bit to use the CD Burner, now I'm not sure I'm even gonna try it......that's a scary thought!!

Ring them bells and toot them whistles! They are there for your total enjoyment! (or to confuse, addlepate and discomboobulate you) either way the fun is in the doing so push those buttons and see what they do....just make sure to backe up everything first....then go feed old Snockers a last meal befor you become totally absorbed by the new computer!
Zany........I will, but I got to keep Snockers well and in shape for our ride to TN.........I'll wait till July to figger out all the extras on this baby.ya know.when the sun starts blisterin' yer backside by 10 am?

Too late, Eyes! Kenny and I have been up at 6 every day building our ranch fence and it's already hot by 9!! :-O!!! We bring lots of water and gatorade. And a couple of those cool wrap things ~ those things you wrap around your neck after soaking them in cold water. We have two each ~ one on our neck and one in the cooler. Nice!
It certainly has been that way the past two days Linda, but
I got spoiled with that chain of 70's and 80's......oy well I guess summer days are here again, the sky above is clear again, happy days are here again!!!!
"eyes"
Yep, yep, yep!!!

Now the rest of the story, When Weez went toe to toe with the voice mail at CompUSA in Anchorage, she wanted to put the new unit back in the box and take it back.
Then I remembered they had a "learning center" in the buildind and the phone must be answered by a live person.
So I gave them a call and asked to to have a floor manager call A.S.A.P.
Well, Bob called back a few minutes later with a lot of acuses, when I interupted him " listen Bob, what your dealing with is a women in menopause, a 357 magnum in her purse and a full tank of gas in her car".
Bob caught on, the problem was solved in about 30 minutes.
..................................Dennis..........................
ROTFLMBO! ;-O!!! Oh, Dennis, for a minute there I didn't think I could pick myself up off the floor! Then I did, and read your post to Kenny and now he's rolling around on the floor laughing HIS butt off! And that's no mean feat ~ he doesn't have much to laugh off!!!! We don't call him Skinny Kenny for nothin'!
That's just too funny...
Yeah, Dennis..............I know that feeling all too well...and I'm rollin' on the floor with Linda & Kenny!! One day we just gotta meet you two!!!!!!!
