Changing jobs

Zone 6, OH(Zone 6a)

Well, I'm giving my 2 weeks notice on Monday. I'm going back to where I worked 2 years ago. It's a really hard decision for me and I feel like [deleted] right now. I know it'll all work out for the best, but I don't deal with change like this very well. I'll get a $2500 raise for the year over what I make now and there's more potential for growth and training and other learning opportunities. I'll be configuring, maintaining and providing support on small to large business phone and voice mail systems.
I used to enjoy where I work now, but we've been bought by another company and things have gone downhill since. People have terrible attitudes and many are leaving if they can. It's horrible to see it happen. It's not the fact that we've been bought out that bothers everyone, it's the way we've been treated and the expectations put on us. it's just not a comfortable situation to be in. Boy I hate doing this...

Wish me luck. I guess I should feel fortunate that I have a job to jump into.

We all are going through this today, foreign companies bringing their own people, etc. Glad it will be better for you, money wise.

I am in the same situation, our wonderful company was bought out by a 'foreign' global company. It is so different!!! But, I am not as courageous as you. So I will stay and try to make the best of it. Best of luck to you in your new venture!!!

It's not a foreign company...it's based in Texas. It's not a bad company, but things have changed enough that I just don't like it anymore. Other people feel the same way. I'm sure still others like it better.

Jon, wishing you the very best. Next year this time, you'll be glad you moved!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

More good wishes coming from Texas, and I applaud you for knowing when to fold 'em.

Jon,
you're making the correct decision in moving. You have to look after the 'status quo', and think of your future. If the company thought you were expendable, they wouldn't think twice about putting you on the street, and they wouldn't feel bad about it.
It is always sad when a happy atmosphere in a company slowly goes sour, but that was not of your making.
Congratulations on making the move at the right time, and not before it was too late.

All the best

Sounds like the best decision. We had a software company who was a big employer in a town of about 30,000 sell out to a foreign corporation. Too bad for the people who didn't see bad news coming and get out as at least half of the workforce was cut within the year. No mercy was shown to anyone; cuts were made starting with the low man on the totem pole all the way up to department VPs. I almost accepted a job there two years ago; my angels had to have been watching out for me and guiding me along the best path. The people who remain are left with an extreme sense of insecurity. It is good that you will be able to avoid this potential problem.

Although it was a tough decision, I feel it was a good one. I remember back as a kid when it was assumed that if you worked for a company and did a good job, you could rest assured of benefits, job security, and retirement. My dad wasn't a big-wig, but got a gold watch after 40 years of service - it was standard practice where he worked at. Those days are definitely gone. Modern technology was welcomed and encouraged, but I personally feel that alot of folks in general really didn't realize the impact it would have our job security today. Don't be surprised if that company calls you back after all of the reshuffling is done. A valued worker, is still a valued worker...that has never changed.
