I don't know if I should be sharing this or not. As many know, I had computer problems last week and just got my computer back from the shop. I knew the hard drive might have to be replaced so I saved everything on disks.
I thought since I had all this free time now(couldn't chat with friends or come to DG) and could get all my promised trades and things sent out. No need to worry about no computer, I have saved all to disk!! (are you following me so far?)
I start gathering things up: boxes, plants, newspaper, baggies etc. Well, when it was time to see which plants and seeds went to whom, guess what? No list. Do you know how impossible it is to read a disk without a computer? (I swear I don't dye my roots brown) Geez-o-pete, I felt so stupid.I just held that shiny silver disk in my hand and knew there wasn't a thing I could do. You can bet there will be paper copies made of addresses from now on. Oh well, got the furniture dusted anyhow.(can you imagine the fun the guys at work have had ragging me about this?)
It's extremely busy at work this week, and probably the next too, but I PROMISE I will eventually get caught up. I haven't forgotten anyone and will get everything out soon. This year seems to have sneaked up on me. Plus DD and DH have had a stomach virus this week which made more work for me. I even admitted that DH does work at the green house and that I missed him.
Brilliant............Not
It's ok. No one here is going to give you fits. Things happen to folks all the time. We understand. Oh, and no, you don't owe me anything. :) Just thought I'd pass along some nice thoughts.
I can't believe that you owe any one. We probable owe you. I can't go in my yard without thinking of you. The brugs are doing so good and my wife and I talk about how they will look when they bloom. I'll have to take a photo and show you how we have them lined up in the yard. We think it will be really nice when we get it set up. Oh BYW the disks do work better with a computer.LOL It still was a good idea to save the information to a disk. Just in case.
I laughed so hard, I cried! As I read it, I was wondering if you knew something I didn't. Then came the revelation. Oh, Calla, too funny, and you are a doll to let us in on it. I would have kept it to myself and never admitted to the blonde moment. You are a real trooper, lady!
I knew it was safe to tell you guys because you all are super!! I must admit, I felt pretty stupid though when I realized what I had done!! It's good to know that I can have my "blonde" moments and you will still love me.
I can picture myself doing exactly the same thing. We are so used to the computer, that we don't even think about life without it. Same with the microwave, as I found out this winter when ours died. I didn't realize how much I used it and depended on it until it wasn't there anymore. Before we replaced it, I found myself trying to cook things that I had no idea how to without the microwave.
Being caught in some sort of fork of the road, I embrace technology but always regard it as a newcomer that might not stay. But when the running water is off for new subdivisions to hook up, it takes me a while to stop turning the faucet on. When a light bulb blows, I still walk into the room and flip the switch so I can see to change the bulb. We do find old habits hard to break.
Calalily, that is an awfully cute story. Something I would do for sure!
Me too Cala - I would have done the same thing no doubt!! How human are we huh!!! So funny!!! Showed great guts on your part to share it with us!!
Do y'all sometimes catch yourself looking for just a split second for the mouse arrow to click the back button when you're looking at a gardening magazine? If y'all answer yes, then I'll tell you that I do ~ and for a split second look for that little arrow to move it and try to click on something on the page every now and again. ;-)
Thanks Cala for telling us about this. It made me think about my address book in my computer, so I printed it off just in case. I keep snail mail addys and trades in my address book. At least if I crash, I'll still have the addys printed off and ready to put back in the fixed or new computer.
