Farmgirl, what is the occasion!? I ***love*** Italy. Went there several years ago .... Tuscany stole my heart. I just finished reading a great book about Italy - will be glad to share with you. Would you post some pictures when you get back?

thanks everyone i am going because i invited myself to go with my aunt and cousin and am bringing my sister. we are starting in venice to florence, rome then naples where we have family from my father and aunts side. they are throwing us a big party. i heard their are a lot of them. this is my first time out of the country. i am too excited for words. my plan asside from seeing the sites, is to eat and drink until i can't eat and drink no more. which will be the plane ride home lol. just found out i can't bring home any meat products which is a bummer because i love the salami. but i can bring home the hard cheeses, and the wine, olive oil. my suit case is only half full. i have a large one. i am going to bring it home full. :)

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Waaaaahhhhhhh, no Parma ham! So eat pounds of it there. I get hungry just thinking of what you are going to have. I once ate some octupus in Rome that was wonderful, and nowhere else have I found it. And the everyday breads and cheeses and wines found everywhere there are almost never brought here. Eat for us both, farmgirl.

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

i will eat for everyone lol. i am thinking that octupus is in season now i hope. i love it. i don't know if you have a fiesta market by you they have great fresh fish and do have octupus. my new way of making it is frying it in olive oil with lemon and garlic and what ever herbs i have on hand at the time. yummy and tender. i can't wait to find new ways to cook it and everything else. if i gain 50 lbs it would not bother me at all as long as taste everything. can't wait for the pastry too.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Well you are really doing the biz!! Florence too - that's incredible!!! What a welcome you are going to get and I'm so excited for you!! All that wonderful food and the icecream!!

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

You are going to see SO MUCH! I'm glad you have two weeks. What a blast you all will have!~ Be sure to stop in some of the small towns and quaint villages ... nice surprises everywhere in Italy. Have tons of fun!

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Of all the places you are going, Venice and Florence are my favorites. Be prepared for "culture overload" as you are going to see and experience more wonderful things than your mind can absorb in one short visit.
You will want to go back, I can promise you cause that is just what happened to me. I did go back and would love to do it again........ AH!!! The food is to die for!!!Have fun. Wish I could go again...."boo hoo!"

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

22 hrs till lift off. i am all packed and ready. i am ready lol. i have plans to kiss the pig, throw coins in fountains the works lol. yes eats lots of ice cream in florence, i am sure we are going to have the best time. i want to try to hit the small vilages but we are going to be traveling by train and if i can talk them into getting off that will be great but you know how some people like to keep time. we might be able to send 2 ahead if they don't want to stop. my first wish is to miss our flight in paris so we can eat. time wise according to my calculations are better if we miss the flt. eat then get into venice around dinner time to shower and eat then sleep. that way we won't be to jet lagged with an afernoon nap. might be stinking thinking but it is mine thinking lol. i am not excited. lol.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

When you get on that train, find your compartment, and then make a beeline to the dining car (ristorante, of course)as fast as your little legs will carry you, or you will not be able to get a table or any decent food the entire ride. People get a table and just keep it the entire trip. You can be starving but no one is going to leave their table until the train pulls into the station.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Have a great trip-and just pinch me some flowers-I dont need any meat! lol
take lots of pics and have a great time!!! =]

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

thanks for the advice aimee, will do. 9 hrs. till lift off. i am excited. lol. but this is the last time to be on dg for 2 weeks. i will miss you all. talk to you all soon.

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Have a great trip farmgirl and be careful. Don't fall in the water in Venice as it is full of bad germs and stuff.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Farmgirl, where in Italy are you going? We were in Bibione, nothern Italy. We also visited Venice. Watch out for city pigeons! If you have something in your hand there can be two pigeons sitting on your hand and head in a few minutes.. and this is true :) I remember when I ate kiwifruit ice cream in Venice, heh. Italy has lots of nice ice creams, remember to taste them ;)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

And if you want to take some italian € coins with you from there, remember to keep the 1, 2 and 5 cent coins apart of the others. They are made of a odd material which turns black for some reason sometimes.. I hate it.
