I don't know about everybody else, but I seldom see all the photos that get posted here every day - there are just too many of them! And that's a shame, because they're all interesting and/or beautiful and/or humorous shots :)
Let's talk about plant photos for a minute. IF you know the name of the plant you photographed, AND it's a good representation of that paritcular species or cultivar, please post it to the Plants Database. Then you can link to it from a new post, if you want to be sure that others see it.
If we all did this, I'd bet we could double or triple the number of photos in there by the end of summer. And the best part of all, it doesn't require any additional work on our part - we're just posting them to a different spot.
There are 3,356 photos in there right now; will you help us get to 7,000 or even 10,000 by September?
We need your photos!
Go_vols, I will start adding pictures to the Brugmansia database. I have much, too much work at the moment with all my plants, but I am going to place pictures, especially the european hybrids. OK?
Monika, having your pictures in the Brug database would be awesome! I am constantly reloading the database homepages looking for new photos. :)
I started adding some daylilies. I had a problem with a 'Black-Eyed Stella' picture canceling out a 'Fairytale Pink' picture. I don't know why .... The pictures had different names & it was on different entries they were added?? Anyhow I need a B.E Stella picture removed from the Fairytale pink entry. I don't see any way to delete it myself...
Sue, I think I removed the right one (it looked the same as the other B.E. Stella photo you had posted. (Gorgeous photos, BTW :)
I need a pic removed too. The first pic under Hosta wide brim.
That shouldn't happen, actually. I programmed this to make it literally - impossible - for any pictures to cancel each other out.
Old timers like Poppysue remember the old days when canceling happened all the time, but we're way beyond that. That should never happen. I'll investigate a little into this.
Sue - Did you say that you had uploaded 2 different pictures, but the second one overwrote the first?
Dave
Jody, by first pic, you mean the one on top? (I don't want to remove the wrong one, and cause extra work for you :)
Dave it was weird... I added several entries but these two had a couple entries between them. I loaded the stella picture but the FT pink picture showed up?? Then if you clicked on the thumbnail (of the FTpink in the stella entry) ... the Stella pic would be there. All looks normal now. I don't know what happened. I'll let you know if anything else strange like that happens again.
Who you callin an "old timer"?!! lol!
Thanks, do let me know if/when it happens again. Let's not delete any pictures until I can see the error. That way, I can correct it so it doesn't happen again.
BTW - anyone who registered during the year 2000 is officially a DG Old Timer (myself included!!) :-) You were here for the launch of the very first PDB, if memory serves.
P.s. Your daylily shots are beautiful! And jody - I'm loving your hosta pics. It's a treat to see a new photo each time I reload the PDB page.
I love all the pictures too. I so want a new digital camera. Is it just me or did the number of plants in the database jump to 25,000 to 31,000 plants since this a.m. I supposed I missed some important thread?
Yes Terry the top one. Thanks! :)
Dave, I've got plenty more hosta, just gotta get out and get more pics, LOL. ;)
Jody, I took care of it. Thanks for all your hard work - everytime I check out the database, it seems like you and Sue have added several new photos!
Looks like the jump is due to 25,000+ daylily entries :)
Rise, your guess is pretty close. Actually it was in the neighborhood of 24,000 daylilies, and 2,000 or so hostas. And about a thousand tomatoes...
(Let's just say some folks have been very busy beavers!)
Thanks Terry!
I'll help out. There's no reason I can't take the camera along while I'm plant shopping too.
BTW
Will there ever be a chance on DG, that when someone correctly spells a botanical name, that it will highlight in the post with a link directly to the Plant Database?
I've got some good pictures of quite a few flowers in my garden, but I'm not good with botanical names. Yesterday I took a picture of some lovely new Nora Barlow Pinks columbines and of a yellow/white iris (don't know it's name, it was a trade).
If anyone is interested, I'll be happy to send someone the pics and if they can fill in the "details", they're welcome to add them to the list. I have lunaria, violets (sweet), johnny jumpups, and some roses (New Dawn, Brass Band, Red Rugosa, etc).....plus others. If you have a list of pics that you need, let me know, maybe I have them on file. I'll be happy to send anything I have.
Those of you who are taking photos with the PDB in mind, remember the foliage is as important as the flower/fruit.
I discussed this over the winter with Carolyn Male and Craig Lehoullier concerning tomatoes.( Foliage type is extremely important on this vegetable for those of you who don't know)
There are lots of pictures of veggies out there on the web,but very few have pictures of the leaves with them. Lots of flowers have foliage displayed, but so few veggies. Please keep this in mind and lay a couple of the leaves on the plate if you are photographing veggies.
I would add lots of my shots but I'm worried about images being downloaded used by someone else. thats why I have a No Right Click program added to my web sites
If someone already has a photo of a plant should we add ours as well?
Jim, it's helpful to have closeup shots, full views, as well as photos of the foliage (as Mel mentioned), seed pods, seedlings, etc.
So if you have a photo that will complement what's already there, by all means please add it.
Thanks for the advice! Out of all the tomatoes I started, only "Green Zebra" is doing well. I didn't think the foliage was all that different from other tomatoes'. I'll send in a photo. I'll have "Paul Robeson", a Russian heirloom, and "Purple Calabash" to add soon
I just uploaded some Trillium, Digitalis, and Vitis photos.. happy? =) I hope someone else doesn't use them, because I don't use any other's photos without permission anywhere. Though I have not neede any other photos than mine for a while. :)
On the subject of photos I'd like to thank Dave for adding the click if it is your own photo box. Very much appreciated!
go_vols, I start loading pictures to the Brug base, but the information about each plant will be posted some time later.
Monika, I saw some of your photo additions yesterday - they're gorgeous! Thanks for sharing them!!! I'll be in touch with you soon, as we'll be working on some new, special fields for the Brug section of the database.
go_vols, I made a mistake. Rosamond 2 must be placed on the Rosamond main page. Its the same plant, only different view on flower. Could you please correct this for me?
Monika, I moved the photo in 'Rosamond 2' to 'Rosamond' and deleted 'Rosamond 2' (I hope I understood you correctly; Rosamond 2 is not a separate cultivar, but was merely a different view of Rosamond.)
Thats right. Thank you!
