I'M BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Woohoo, good ole HP didn't let me down and got repairs done in record time. I can't believe how fast I got it back, they had only received it this Monday and sent it back out on Tuesday.........WOW. So good to be back. I missed everyone!!!!!!!

Jerome, MI(Zone 5b)

Missed you too.....welcome back...how is the job going?

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

job is going alright. Don't get much hours at all but then again that's all I can handle. I spend 1 or 2 hours with someone and I'm totally drained for the rest of the day. My own disability doesn't let me do much :(
My doctor told me to sign up for SSI so I did that last week.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

You almost have to be dead or dying to get SSI. And, then if you are, they want you to give away everything you have; they consider it welfare. Anyway, it's sure good to see you back!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

well, to be honest with you, I don't own anything. I don't have any furniture that's mine, and the car that I drive every day is in Jim's name too. All I own is clothes :(
I wish I wasn't the way that I am but one day I will be better and I will get back off of SSI if I get on it. I don't plan on living like this the rest of my life. I believe that I can eventually learn to train my brain to function right :)

Cleveland, OH(Zone 5b)

So good to have you back. I know you will get on track, I can 'hear' it in your 'voice'. LOL

Hi !
Glad you got the puter done so quick.
I'll tell you something that got my goat, I had Gangegreen of the intestines and almost left this old world and could not work for four years.
Well I applied for SS and since I was a housewife and raised kids for the 11 years before this i couldn't get any help because you have to work the 10 years before hand, geesh!
I'll keep you in my prayer's and with your stron will I know you will be back to your old self!!

I didn't quite have enough credits for disability for social security but SSI is supplemental income and is a bit different. Things will get better in the future though :) I just know they will, they have to!!!

Susan, welcome back! for some reason the "forces" did not want me to do this. its my third try. first my service disconnected. then Yahoo, my default portal was having difficulties and then I had a visitor. Girl, I could tell you horror stories I have gone through with SSI.They want to know how much you make (my DH"S salery) before you earn it.If he works over time, they already have your amount without overtime, and then expect you to send the extra back to them.every check stub for the month has to be sent in.you cannot get medicaid without being elligible for SSI.so Some times I am without any kind of medical help. Too far from county hosp.AND... Now it's hard to find a doctor that accepts medicaid patients.Sorry but this is a problem that others have as well as myself.what can we do?Pray ing is about allI can think to do. Get rested now!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Flow, just persist on the SSI issue....Let me tell you my horror story with them.
When Alex was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, my insurance wouldnt cover anything to do with the CP because they said that it was a preexisting condition, I started working when he was 5 weeks old, and had insurance from that day on, but when he was born, I wasnt covered. TEchnically, it was a preexisting condition, but it didnt manifest itself until he was a year old, which means that he wasnt doing anything, not walking, not sitting up, not crawling (well, he did crawl in a commando style, meaning he used his arms to propel himself - his legs were pretty much useless)
anyway, when he was diagnosed, we immediately started physical therapy (which wasnt covered by insurance) at the tune of 600-700 hundred dollars a month. One of the gals that I had befriended who also had a child with CP told me to apply for ssi, if for no other reason, to get the medical benefits. after a couple of months, we were in real bad shape financially. (my husband was a student and not working.) so, I applied - would you believe I made 50 dollars too much to qualify????? well, so I thought to ask my boss to reduce my salary by 50 dollars a month, but then, I just couldnt bring myself to do that, because it was cheating.... So, we struggled about 6 more months till we got him into the Shriners, but in the meantime, we were ruined financially, we never failed bankrupcy or anything like that, it just took years to pay all those doctor and therapist bills and get back into shape.
Now....I have a cousin, who was a heroine addict. I didnt really have much to do with him or his family, quite frankly, I was scared of having anything to do with them. Once they visited my family, my mother was dying of cancer at the time, and they thought they would visit one last time, while they were there, he stole all my mothers pain medications...I tell you this just to give you an idea of the sort of person he was. I found out that he was collecting SSI because he was considered disabled due to his addiction.
TAlk about seeing red...He milked the system all his life.
I couldnt even bring myself to go to his funeral when he died of an overdose a couple of years ago.

Talk about a twisted system we have.
I supposed I could have pursued the SSI for Alex, but I really thought it would be cheating, and I still think it would have been.

Anyway, Flow, I think you should just keep applying, reapplying and exhaust every avenue with SSI, because if a heroine addict can be considered disabled, well I guess anyone who is persistent with them will get it.

Does any of this make sense or did I just get on a soap box here, which I apologize for.

Good luck Susan.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Pebble you don't have to apologize. I will not get on the soap box here because I would surely offend a number of people so will keep quite about my thoughts.

Susan you keep on trying and trying.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Will do and thanks for the encouragement. I know someone who got SSI for being an alcoholic. I couldn't believe it and then I knew someone who could have really used it and they were denied quite a few times before it went through. The system is indeed quite messed up but I have worked in the past and am planning to work in the future. I just can't hold a real job right now because of my condition. The few hours that I spend a week with the clients that I have just totally wear me out to the point of total exhaustion. I'm not giving up on life though and I don't plan to live off the system for long but I do need help to try to get back on my feet. I am still planning into going into realty in the future :)

(Zone 8a)

Yipeeeee...Congrats on your early return...I have been kind of wayward lately and will send wisteria soon!

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Welcome back Susan. We missed you.
The SS seems to be a racquet. My wife was turned down in Jan. of this year and the day after receiving the notice she had an appointment with her Doctor. When she started to leave after the examination he asked if she needed a wheel chair to get to the car. Can't walk but the notice said she was mentally capable of working and didn't even mention her physical condition. Makes me think of a posting that Mike Piper had once about the workers at a McDonalds and where do they get them. I think about these workers and how I think they are milking the system. Making decisions and aren't capable of understanding what a disability is. We appealed and haven't heard anything since then. I called and left a message this past week on the persons recorder and it said his hours were from 6AM to 2PM Monday through Friday. I think he works parttime at McDonald's evenings and weekend. Well I guess I had better get off that before I have to take an extra paxil. Lol
Hey maybe I qualify. I'm on medication.
Any way welcome back.
