so photopoint have gone bust and now they are trying to sell us our own images for $25. I dont think so!!
photopoint.com
Did I read that right? They want to sell your photos back to you? The Homestead website I was using began to charge too but at leat they gave lots of warning so we could download our information and pages if we decided to leave (I left)But to try to hold your work hostage is really ridiculous!
Do you mean that the images you had uploaded to them are now theirs, and they won't even give them back to you unless you pay them? Pretty lame, if that's the case.
I presume you kept all the copies of your images on your local hard drive?

That's terrible, Mark! I suppose they had some disclaimer buried somewhere saying they had the right to use or manipulate the photos in any way they saw fit. Ugh.
I deleted the majority of my images from photopoint when I made marksgardenplants.

I know I am not paying them a d---thing for my images. They can have the few I had there. Don't know what good they will be to them.
I had lots of photos with them and they were all lost. I remember posting some time ago as to what happened to the site. The worst part is they were charging for their use. My membership was good until September of this year and I guess I was screwed out of my membership fee too! Thank goodness for DG!
Never ever put your only copy of a photo you want to keep out on the net. I just don't trust anyone with something I NEED to keep...even if they are a respected company. Things happen and you never know what might become of your stuff if they have a problem. Buy some extra floppies or zip disks if you have a zip drive. Most hard drives have plenty of room for storing tons of pictures anyway. I only have a 9Gb disk right now and I have plenty of room to go. I have loads of MP3's too. The one thing I do though is resize and save my pictures so the file size is smaller. I've got no need to be storing pics that are 900k in size, except for a few special photos.
