LOL - I can't believe It!!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I finally got Disneyed!! Aint that a kick in the butt!! ROTFLMAO!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

what in the world for?????????

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I really dunno. I guess it's because I e-mailed someone privately through there and mentioned the dreaded D____G______ word. I thought he got over it? Guess not.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

he shouldn't filter the private emails. that should be against some kind of law!!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Welcome to the club! I got disneyed about a month ago. All I did was email a person that was looking for information on a plant, and suggested she look at the plants database here. Bam! Gone! Finito! No more!

I played email tag with Spike for about 2 weeks, but he just egged me on. What do you think? Any ideas yet?

Fine, I don't need that when I have so many friendly people here.

Yes tiG, he does have a way to monitor private emails that are sent via that site.

Joan (who's hoping I don't get kicked off here for posting this. I'm a little goosey now.)

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Well - he must have it set to filter out anything with DG in it. I mailed someone about the sib co-op cause I knew she'd be interested getting some. At first the letter wouldn't go thro because I spelled DG out. Some warning about DG spamming his site came up. Anyhow I edited my letter and omitted a couple of the letters in DG ... and the letter went through. This was a few days ago... but tonight when I go there to e-mail someone I get disneyed. I can't post on the forum and can't mail the girl.

What seems weird is how my letter went through to begin with. It makes me think he'd have to personally block me from there because his filter didn't pick up the mis-spelled DG. So.... this makes me think he had to READ my private letter to know what I said. Does that make sense? Is that possible? Would he go to such lengths?? Sheesh - I hardly ever go to that site - and I never post. Once in a great while I check out the trades and then I e-mail the person privately.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Sounds so familiar. Plus, the lady I replied to never emailed me back, so I think that my email automatically got sent to HIM and only him! I don't think the person I was trying to contact ever got my email.

I've tried to visit with him about this, I've said I was sorry, and that I really didn't know it was an issue. I visit many many sites on a daily basis looking for gardening info, since I'm a newbie gardener. But, no way can I get back on that site. Actually, it doesn't bother me that much, except that I have some friends over there that I've now totally lost contact with. They are going to wonder, and they can't contact me either unless they have my email addy saved.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Joan, I'll be glad to let your friends know where you are. I've wanted to go to Disney for a long time and could'nt afford the trip. A free trip to Disney sounds good to me. LOLOL

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

LOL Snowhermit! Thanks for the offer, but I don't want to be responsible for sending anyone else to Disney. I realize that you've been wanting to go there, but it's not all it's cracked up to be. LOL

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

The man really should get a life instead of sitting there reading private e-mails.After hearing this it just makes me more thankful that we have DG.

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

So I'm not the only one! I didn't get sent to Disney, but I can't log on anymore. It says, "Username not found" or something like that. Funny ~ I mentioned DG in one of the forums before that, but it wasn't 'til I sent a private e-mail to someone that I got banned. My forum post is still there ~ the only one on the site mentioning Dave's that I could find besides one by Carolyn Male. I got the same thing about DG spamming his site. But that's Spike.

Joan, don't worry about Dave getting upset about us talking about this. Comparing Dave to Spike is like comparing a bright smile to the other end ~ the only thing relating the two is about 3 miles of digestive tract.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Poppy, he must have it set up to send a copy of your email to him once you mention the dreaded "Dave" word. That's really almost scary when you think about it. He's that afraid of the competition that he would take away people's privacy? Haven't been in a long time, and can't see why I'd go now. it's a shame.

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

Uh-huh- I had a feeling Spike would be privy to the e-mails sent through GW, so I didn't sign up when he changed the format. I do go over and read through two or three of the forums once in awhile and read posts by those whose musings I enjoy, but there is nothing trade-wise or otherwise over there that would make me go through all of that malarky again.

I ended up at Dave's Garden because I was banned at GW for mentioning an auction site. Go over there now and see how many times auction websites are mentioned. A stern warning from him would have been enough for me to mend my ways, but he banned MY WHOLE ISP in order to keep me out.

Older and wiser now, I realize that this says WAY more about him than it does about ME.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I thought all emails were accessible to all web masters!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

they probably are louisa, but it seems he set up a filter to show him which ones mention Dave's. sorry, that just sounds sooooooo wrong to me. I can't see Dave doing that.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Poor little bitty man! I would hate to live such a fearful existence. I thought after so long, he would have matured, but it seems not likely.

montgomery, AL(Zone 7b)

I got a firm warning E-mail once for being off topic..also clicked on a thread & got sent to Disney not long ago..
Thanks Dave for being here :)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh Well! Seems only the best of the best get the Disney boot! Guess you are in good company. LOL Had my fair share of smacks on the hand but haven't been booted yet. Guess I need to try harder to stand up to my name. Giggle

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

This guy is sick, I'm glad I found this site before that prune's or it may have dampened my spirits, and enjoyment of gardening, in thinking that all gardening webmasters were alike.
He should be ashamed of himself, and maybe realise that competition is good for business cos it keeps you on your toes at all times, but just banning people from the site gives more power to Dave's arm, in building the biggest and best gardening site on the net.
If you've been kicked out of his site, what happened to your annual fee. Did he send a bit back, or is there no fee there?
If so, I would talk to my local friendly lawyer and get my money back, whilst making an enormous "song-and-dance" about it in the press.
That should make his eyes water

All the best

Wintermoor

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

I think there are quite a few members of Dave's Garden who are banned GW refugees.

GW was free years ago and you used to be able to just post your query without a whole lot of rigamarole, but now you must sign up and give your identifying information. (I am a little skittish about GW anyway after the @horro.com Russian pornography spamming incident of early spring 2001, which I believe originated at GW.) I know he would like a $25.00 donation because his advertising fees are down(DUH!), but I don't know if it's mandatory. I do know that he will NEVER see one thin dime of MY money, nor will I knowingly buy anything from any company that advertises on his site.

Bah--he's to be pitied for being so miserable. It's a real shame because there really were some intelligent people over there at one time. But they've all moved on to greener and friendlier pastures-- like the ones found here!

Now I'm tempted to test the Dave's Garden theory over at GW, LOL. The site is going downhill in my opinion, so a trip to Disneyland wouldn't be so bad.......

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

(warning - climbing up on my soapbox here...)

The most fundamental difference I see between DG and GW is that DG is truly FOR and BY gardeners. Dave is a gardener first, webmaster second. I don't think I've ever heard anyone describe GW's webmaster in those terms. I think that's why DG has such a special draw for people; it's truly a gardener's gardening site.

Unfortunately, GW currently has somewhat of an advantage because it's been around a long time, and Spike has done a good job of promoting it. My most recent issue of Garden Gate gave (yet another) plug for GW's seed exchange forum.

Closing this gap is OUR responsibility as members of DG. Email, write or call the editors of your favorite gardening magazine(s) and tell them about DG; ditto for gardening-related sites that link to other gardening sites. (Suite 101 has done some nice writeups and links to DG, for example.) Spread the word to your gardening friends, clubs, master gardener classes, etc. Encourage them not only to join, but subscribe. If they don't want to commit $15 (which works out to $.04 a day, BTW) then they can take a two-month "test drive" for $5. As we all know, it's money well spent.

If you ordered from a company you found in the Garden Watchdog, be sure to tell them so. Companies will pay attention to that information, especially when more and more people tell them the same thing.

Okay, I'm climbing down now; the "coast is clear" once again.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

I just wanted to say-since I found davesgarden Ive had NO use for GW! I dont need all the trades-Ive got seeds I will proably never get to plant!!! Plants and work I cant keep up with anymore!!!
My HEART is here and so are my FRIENDZ!
I belong to a couple other sites-but this one is HOME!
I cant handle the rides at disney, so I just skip going there-Im sure Id get a free ticket fast!!! :P
"DAVE you dah man" This site Rockz!!

(Zone 8a)

I have been sent to disney on gw too and I think you all need to know exactly what that means...

You are not banned from gw when you go to disney! When you type in certain words or url's you are directed to Disney because they are not allowed to be posted by Spike... I think mostly to block out free advertising which I think is understandable since they need paying advertisers to help support the site!

I am a member there also and am careful about what I type anymore so I am not directed to disney! If I want someone to know something I simply email them and ask them to email me back for info!

I just wanted to help clear up the mystery of being banned or just disneyed!

Wintermoor...you may join with the option of paying if you want! It is more of a contribution to help support the site!

Cheers!
Rebecca

(Zone 8a)

Well...where did everyone go?

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Not to the Gardenweb, that's for sure! ROTFLOL!!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

maybe spike offeres different trip packages??
a couple of years ago i was given a 1 way ticket to disney. it was probably 6 months or better before i was able to post again.
jen

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Yep, a friend of mine got sent to disney last year and to this day still can't post. As of three months ago, when she tried, she'd go to disney.com again.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I still think it's about privacy. If he doesn't want something posted on his website, well whatever, but to have a filter set up that picks words out of an email!! that's invasion of privacy to me. I don't care if the email is going through his site. And to be so piddling that he will ban you for mentioning a competitor??? he needs a life.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Have mercy on the little fella. He can't help himself.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I have probably only taken a peek at Garden Web once since I joined DG!! This one site is plenty for me!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

LOL Aimee.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I got banned because I traded seeds with americans when they had hoof and mouth disease in UK and other countries, not Finland, and somehow he thought that the seeds could spread it to USA.. ehhem. Âéòòó ìéêà éäèîîòòé

My photos are still in the Hortiplex anyway...

I got signed up again to GW when we got ADSl and new IP. Just wanted to see what's up there. Seemed a boring place. If you want to sign up again, it might be possible if you delete your cookies, internet history, and internet files, and then go to GW and just sign up again... ;)

se qld, Australia

If you really feel the need to go there, it can be gotten around, you know ............ :)

Clearfield, PA(Zone 5a)

If you are banned, can you ever get back on GW???

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

I too got sent to Disney once. When Spike deceided to charge to post on some of the forums I followed others here. I still sometimes check out the birding forum there, but my money is MUCH better spent here. Such a shock this morning when I opened up my mail and there was a birthday wish from Spike!! Nice, but I'd a bazillion times rather be here. :-)))

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

I think it all depends on what the little man thinks ~ sometimes it's only for a month or three, other times it's permanent. I don't care if it's permanent for me. It is a valuable resource with lots of intelligent people there, but there are also lots of jerks and I can live without it. I may try to re-sign up, but it's not so important that I'll make the time anytime soon, I'll bet. I'd much rather spend my time here!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

That's okay Poppysue.....there are ways around the little man if you really want something. We all know folks who are registered there.....word of mouth you know?? So wear them ears with pride my dear, this is where the new Mouseketeers are born!!

"eyes"

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

I always wanted to be a Mousketeer!! Thanks, Spike!
