Not getting Thread notice

N.C. Mts., NC(Zone 6b)

Help! It has been several weeks since I have rec. a notice on any of the threads I am watching. Help, Dave.

me either, has something changed?

Bringing this one back up to the top for Dave's review.

In the meantime, I'd recommend that you check the "Threads I'm Watching" from your member page, and see which ones are checked. (The determine if any of them actually have new postings.) Also check to see what your personal preferences are set to as far as receiving notice of new posts (emails vs. seeing a link at the top of the home page.)

And if the latter, are you going to the home page or the "forums" page? I suspect that might make a difference :)

Thanks, go_vols. I didn't know I was watching that many.

Thread Watcher E-mail alerts has been disabled by me for now, and I am not sure when I will re-enable it.

The system is so inconsistent that threads don't always get mailed. I hate inconsistently buggy software (especially that which I have personally written).

Mail is a heavy system application, and when I have hundreds of members watching thousands of threads, the server ends up spending a huge amount of resources just to send out those notifications.

Having thread notifications on the homepage is a much cleaner solution, and it saves BIG TIME on the server's CPU. I invite everyone to please give the homepage a try, see how you like it, and, if after a little while, it's still not what you want, let me know and I may open the mail option again on a very limited basis.

Dave, I have my DG short cut on my desktop...when I open it it is to the word "Welcome Home Roadrunner" I LOVE that! Then there is a list of any new postings to any threads that I am watching...and I watch a lot! When I was in Fla for a month, and was getting notices by email through my own server, but on my friends computer...my mailbox would be overflowing...and they sent me one notice that I had too many....so I love this new way. I'm am not bothered with all that email, and can click on them when I open my DG. I don't want the notices mailed to me any more, thank you! Jo

I love having the new posts to threads i'm watching come up on the home page it works a treat thanks Dave! So easy just to click on them to bring the thread up.
I would never be interested in email notices.

Well, this answered one of my questions (why I wasn't getting the emails anymore) but it brought up two others (that make me look like a total ditz, but here goes):

The "home" page that everyone is talking about -- is that actually what I would have to do, set DG as my home page in order to see new threads? Right now, I have MSN as my home page and I like it that way. I would however, like to be able to FIND the new postings to the threads I want to watch, which I've not been able to do recently without considerable searching. How do I solve this issue and how do I put a DG icon on my desktop so I can just click and open?
Thanks!

Hear, hear! I agree ~ having them on the homepage right underneath "Welcome home, Wingnut!" is so nice! And lots less clutter ~ just click on the link and it takes you there. No need to have to delete all those e-mails. MUCH easier IMHO.

mom2cats: No you don't have to set DG as your homepage. When we refer to the DG homepage, we're just talking about the top-level of the site. Click on the logo to go to the "DG Homepage". It's where it says "Welcome home, mom2cats!".

The threads that you are watching will appear at the top of that page, if there are any new threads.

Cool! Got it to work! Thanks Dave!

Well, it worked once......I added 3 new threads tonight and now can't get any of them to come up. Is it just because nothing new has been added to them?

Also - didn't we used to have a forum for photos? If not, where are we supposed to put photos, or aren't we? Like I would love to share the beautiful iris I found blooming along with the surprise Nora Barlow "pinks" columbines..but have no idea where to post them.

Hi, mom2cats! If they don't show up at the top, there's not been any new posts. (You can test it by going to your list of watched threads in your preferences and seeing that none of them have a new thread indicated.)

Photos still have a forum, OR you can post them to whatever forum you'd like to - Dave made it possible to post photos to all (I think) forums ;) Remember you have to start a new thread to post a photo - can't add one to an existing thread. Can't wait to see your pics!

mom2cats,

The "watched" threads will only show up when there is something new.

There is still a photo forum, just like there used to be. In addition, you can now add photos to all of the forums. If you can't find the "Photos" forum on your homepage, click on "forums" on the right hand side of the screen (this lists all of the forums).

Could you please tell me how to put a shortcut to Dave's garden on my desktop? I am using Netscape 4.7 if that is a help.

Crossville, TN

I don't know diddly about Netscape, but on mine, after I have signed in...right click on the page....and select "create a short cut". Hope that works for you. Jo

Also try this: Look in the menu box under the logo and find the link called "Home".

Drag that link onto your desktop and the icon should be created.
