Photos forum

Dave - could you consider of doing something to the photos forum.. As I take many photos/day, and the page shows only 20 links per page, I always 'drop' someone's thread to the second page, which people rarely view I think. I always feel so bad when I post lots of photos... :/ Maybe 25-35 links on the first page would be good? It wouldn't make the page load much longer, wouldn't it?

Evert,

I think it's better to show a little restraint. I take literally hundreds of photos each week, and many I think are stunning, but I post them to my journal instead. This way, no single person dominates the forum.

Courtesy suggests only posting one or two photos in the photos forum per day, thus giving other folks a chance to have their beautiful photos seen.

Oh, ok.. it was just my silly idea :P

Evert, why don't you upload the majority of your photos to your journal, then link to the new entries in a post in the forum? That way, people can see all the folks' posts, plus go to your journal and see many of yours in one spot. It would be easier to see all of yours that way, too, since they'd mainly be in one place. :)

I'm really ot of how to use the Jouranl - i've tried and failed always. WHy it is so confusing =)

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

i TOTALLY AGREE Evert!!! i wish they would simplify the steps to follow. i have gone to printing the instructions, but still don't go nowhere.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

OK - Now I managed to use the Journal! - BUT... it is so slow :/ :((

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Really? I've not found it slow, but I'm not accessing DG from overseas, either.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I don't mean my connection would be slow, but slow to upload all the photos! Put the names to their places and dates and creating categories.. :P

Hi Evert,
If you have a series of photographs in your journal about a certain flower, then other members can see the development of that flower, by that way you are giving a real service to others. I've just realised this a bit too late, but I will definitely start with the next flowers which show a bit of green coming out of the ground, which means I can have a complete history of the growth of the plant for everyone to see (and even me);-)

All the best

Maybe I have to post them to plants database then.. a lot more easier. :}

You can just hit BACK to where you can enter text and upload a photo again, and do them in batches that way. That's what I do when I'm making several updates/uploads in one entry. Does that make sense the way I wrote it? I know what I mean, but I don't know if I'm communicating it very well. Once you get used to using the journals, it's very quick going, I think. I like using them a lot now, though I was very reluctant to get started in them!

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Yep, same here ~ reluctant to sit down and figure out how to use it, but once I did, it all made sense and is easy to use now! I had to move some things around and make new categories ~ my first try at it wasn't quite what I wanted. I finally figured it out and it's great! The pics do take a little bit to upload, but I don't find it any slower than on the photo forum. Hmmm, I wonder what's different about the uploading process to make it do that for you, Evert? (BTW, I have multiple windows open so I can read a thread while I'm waiting for the pics to upload ~ helps pass the time.)

It helped me understand the journals to think of them as a "tree", like this way (the bold ones show up on your journal homepage):
JOURNALS (like the default journal)
.....TOP LEVEL CATEGORIES
..........Subcategories
...............items
....................entries added to items

It also helped me to log out and look at my journal (as someone else would see it) after I had entered a few categories and items ~ helped me get an idea of just what it was I was doing in there. ;-)

Yeah, there are some things I would like better if they were done differently, like have the items listed under their respective categories on the homepage so I can go directly to them instead of having to go to the category page and access them from there. But you can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time. ;-) It's MUCH better than anything I've seen so far! And it's also the only journal I've been able to keep for longer than two weeks! LOL!

I almost always open two windows when I'm reviewing Dave's Garden. I work them simultaneously as Wingnut does. As something is loading, I'm looking at something else in the other window and so on. I hate to feel like I'm wasting time. :)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Ehh, no time for me to make the journals, too much photos. And hate when it puts atuomatically 'sow this today'. Uploading is just as fast to me as to you. So it doesn't take hours. I always have 3-4 windows open because I am on multiple pages all the time.

Evert - there is a mass edit function that will allow you to remove any todo's that you select from a queried list in one action....i.e. upload all your photos, access them all simutaneously by status (or category or whatever), check the ones you want and remove the todos from in one function, and if you want you can then hit your back button and change the status/categories in one function; also you can add entries to any queried selected items the same way.

Your journal could really be a treasure that we all can enjoy...just some ideas to help you out. :)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

and then once a week or so, you could post in the general forum that you've updated the journal and we can check it out!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

RiseAnn - Nice to see ya! Explain more about this "upload all your photos" thing. I'd love to hook into THAT! :)

Rapid City, SD(Zone 5b)

Good to see you too GW! Probably should clarify ...."after" you upload all of your photos.....:)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Awwwww. Well, shoot. :)
