Tornado in Tenn.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Hey Terry (go vols)...are you OK? I just heard on the news that Murfeeboro just had a big Tornado and that it damaged about 30 homes but no deaths. Please check in anyone in the area, and let us all know that your OK.

Donna

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Oh boy, will have to find out how my mom is doing too then, she lives in Clarksville. Not sure how far that is from Murfreesboro but I don't think too far. A few years ago Clarksville got hit bad by one and it destroyed most of downtown. My mom's neighbors house split in two and someone's shed door flew into my mom's car but other than that she was alright and her house didn't sustain any damage. Hope everyone is alright who lives in that area

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

My DD in Knoxville said they had a couple tornadoes this afternoon (very unusual for east tennessee). I don't know about damage, but they did have a bunch of hail.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Anybody heard from Nana today?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I got an email from GoVols earlier, but didn't know about the tornado till just a little while ago. We are still under a tornado watch for now. Nana is about 10-15 miles from me, haven't heard from her yet.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Donna, sorry for the belated response - we were busy all day. Yes we are all fine and well - a few large branches down, but that's the extent of our damage. The tornado was first spotted about 6 miles from us, and touched down about 8-9 miles southeast of us. We drove down there after church this morning, and could see some damage along I-24, but they had Highway 41 closed, which is where the tornado really caused the most damage.

A little scary to have it hit that close, but we're all just fine - thanks for thinking of us!

Flowox, Clarksville is an hour or two in the opposite direction (northwest on I-24) from M'boro. There have been storms all over Kentucky and Tennessee today, but no other tornadoes that I'm aware of.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Terry, thanks for checking in. I'm so glad to hear that everyone is fine (so far). Boy, it sure hit me when I heard that news today, and I knew someone from there. I would rather have these earthquakes out here, than have those ugly Tornados.....

Keep safe everyone in that area, Donna

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I kept thinking of you all!! We too were under a tornado watch but the worst of the storms passed above and below us. The news did report 3 fatalities. I hope Nana checks in soon!!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

got here first thing to see if ya'll were ok-glad that it missed you! =]
Im hoping everyone else is alright too!

Yesterday afternoon, at 3:19pm, I was examining the dopler to see why the NWS had issued a severe thunderstorm warning. A massive red cell was about 2 miles north of us, and then the phone rang. It was my sister telling me that we were under a tornado warning and that the tornado was in Farragut.

We (lots of family were here yesterday) all ran outside to see if we could see it, and... sure enough, there was a funnel cloud on the ground due east of us, moving away toward Knoxville. We watched the tornado move several miles and then finally disappeared from view into the clouds. It was the first tornado I've ever seen in real life and was one of the most exhilerating experiences ever! I hope to never get that close to one ever again!!

Dave

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

Well we have or should I say had a town in MD that is now 1/2 gone! :( The pictures of the destruction is just incredible.

Laplata MD was hit by a tornado yesterday too. 2 people were killed and about 18 or injuries. They are still searching for people amongst the rubble.

I also heard of one in Missouri I beleive it was, that did a lot of damage and injuries.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Dave, I am glad yall are okay.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Really gald your ok dave n trish n family! I was IN a tornado once-I never ever want to do that again!! The winds get over 30mph and im watching the sky! Scary stuff!
Hold on everyone!!! Prayers going up for all of us!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Phew!! Dave - too close for comfort!! Hubbie and I were painting our church offices in Hampton when the skies became very ominous!! Unbeknown to me, but DH saw it, a tornado just missed us, about 1/2 a mile away. It was small of course but there was damage. It took us nearly an hour to do the 10 min journey home only to find our neighbour's tree had cut her house in half. Just about 10 houses from us!! We were lucky yesterday, the bad weather was to the North and South of us. Not so others I fear!!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

WHEW! Thank The Lord!!!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Margaret, that is so scary! Yes, too close for comfort. I am happy to know you are safe. Living in an area that has been hit often by devastating tornadoes, I can appreciate your concerns. You know you are in my prayers.

I saw the news last night and didn't realize just how bad the situation was. Maryland suffered much damage and loss of life. So sad!!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Wheww...having been thru one myself just b4 DD was born I tend to freak out easily. Must be why I watch the weather so closely. Glad you got to see one from a distance dave. Ours came at 2:20 in the morning, no fun!
If there is anything any of you can do for some of those familys who've lost a part of their life (whether it be their houses or loved ones) I wish ya'll would consider it. If you live near any of the damage even just going by and helping pick up tree limbs and such helps, or take a bucket of chicken to some crew/family members. And remember, those who still have a livable house still may not have power for days or weeks to come...so any little tidbit of help will really stand out.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

That's a lovely thought Shoe - helping those who were affected by all this terrible weather. We were lucky this time!! I believe that many in Maryland are still without power so thank goodness the temps are pretty reasonable at the moment!!
