Still haven't seen my hummers but I have seen lots of different butterflies! They are sooooo pretty too aren't they?!! I have had them to get on my humming bird feeders too! I think they make a butterfly feeder, and I am thinking of getting me one! I could watch them all day!!

I saw a sign outside a pet store. It said, hummers 18 May!! Alarmed, I turned to hubbie and said, surely they don't sell humming birds!!!!!!!! Duh!!! Ah me!! Poor demented soul!!!

My hummers returned the 10th...4 days later than usual. They were seen in town on the 2nd,but didn't stop here. Most of you are getting migrating hummers at this point still. They are on their way to as far north as Canada.Usually the ones that you see the middle of May are your nesting ones. Then,by July the males are on their way back South.

It seems that the male hummer is good for only one thing...he does not participate in nest building, sitting on eggs, baby feeding ,or protection of the family. The female is a true 'single mom'.She takes care of everything. The male is just a pretty boy who wants as many girlfriends as possible. Then ,he heads for South America.

I've had as many as 4 here in the last week or two,but they are all still moving north.I guess I'm sending them your way!

Peggie....that's an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. The female can be the
reverse of the male or she can be
blue and black, of which I had the
privilege of having last year, and hope
I do this year too! Papillio Glaucus.
