That, plus a lot of times the spammers set up some temp address at Yahoo or another web-based service, then use it for the FROM or REPLY-TO then just abandon the account and let it fill up with angry replies until they start bouncing because the mailbox is full. And often they forge their headers so it appears e-mails are coming from one e-mail address when they're really not.

I'm going to get techie on you for a moment...If you want to increase the effectiveness of your e-mail filters, don't filter by e-mail addresses. Filter by IP addresses.

I just learned this a few days ago from one of the support folks at the Pegasus Mail for Windows list when we wrote back and forth concerning filtering e-mails.

Most spammers will change the FROM or REPLY-TO on their various e-mails so filtering by them isn't effective. However, they won't bother often changing their IP address.

So, when you get a spam, look at the complete e-mail headers. You'll see something like "originating IP: 123.456.78.9". That's the actual IP address from which the spam came.

In this case, then, you'd make a filter to take e-mails with containing 123.456.78.9 and delete them.

Be sure you play with this a little and make sure you're not filtering by your own ISP's IP address. For a while after making your filter, check your trash folder and make sure you're not deleting e-mails you DO want (been there, done that, LOL)

Consult your e-mail program's documentation on filtering e-mail messages. :)

Hope that helps!

Forward any and all spam/porn/unwanted email to uce@ftc.gov. Make sure you forward the entire email, including the header.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Got one today with subject Japanese girl VS. Playboy. I'm certainly getting a little tired of all this stuff. Up until 3 or 4 weeks ago, I never got a single piece of junk mail and now I'm getting them daily plus the thrill of getting the virus infected emails. I'm so afraid that my anti-virus will miss one and that does happen, so I'm just not opening any attachments. PERIOD!!

It seems to be getting worse doesn't it!! I HATE them!!
