ginlyn, What a nice thing to say. This is a great place, and I hope we all learn and grow right along with the site. I'm sure glad that we don't have to be worried about being kicked out of here just because we might visit another site now and then. Dave is a great web master and GEEZ, I love this place. It is like my home away from home.
Shirley
How Did You find DG?
I don't think Dave would have the least bit of trouble with us visiting othr sites, cos he knows we'll all be back home ten minutes later :-)
All the best
Wintermoor
Iwas told of DG's exisistance by several memebers after a disagedement with none other than Spike Hernanadez!

When I first found out about seed exchanges I searched and searched and searched the internet and on the third day I found Dave's - so before I ever made my first trade (it was with Granny Lois!)I used the trade tracker.
I have learned a great deal since being here and have watched in amazement as the site has grown and changed. What a great resource with wonderful, helpful people.
Thanks Dave and Trish :)
I found daves quite by accident. i has just learned to use the computer and was surfing looking at plants and seed catalogs. i am not real sure how i go here but once i did i have been here ever since. i guess you could say i am completely addicted. this is the only garden site i go to anymore. why go anywhere else when you can find it all here plus the added gift of some great friendships. janet
PLEASE!!! will all refugees, including me, control their fingers. know what I mean? and everyone else please dont ask. we dont what to go down that path again.
Mark
I stumbled, and fell and then felt this magnetic pull pulling me closer and closer until I got pulled all the way in and haven't been able to release myself from that magnet for a year now. One mighty powerful forse there is here so I guess everyone is stuck with me for quite sometime yet.(poor Dave) You all have been forwarned now so look out, cause I'm here for the duration.
I have to say tho, that this is one great place with many wonderful friends. This truely has been one of the best years of my life and hope for a few more to come.DG has helped me more than anyone could ever know;in more ways than one.
God Bless You All and to All I say thank you for all the wonderful friendships that I normally wouldn't have had if it hadn't been for DG. To Dave;I thank you for putting together such a wonderful site and for putting up with all of us through some of the bumpy roads that may have occured.
You truely have put up with all of us through thick and thin.
Trish, my thanks go out to you as well; in more ways than one. For without a good woman standing beside her man, there is nothing.
Brook and I had several projects going before DG.We'd known each other for awhile through searching for KY Heirlooms. He found DG and told me. I think there were 5 forums then...maybe 4.There were less than 400 members but I could tell what a great spot it was. Been here ever since!
Blame AngelSong....it's all her fault. "T" :)
Paulgrow told me it was a great place and he was right!

I was looking for information on a particular plant...can't remember which one :*).....and it showed up here!
I have been here ever since.
My favorite gardening website.
I can't believe how much I have learned and how much I still have to learn...:*)
God Brought me in!! It was just after the WTC ...everyone was so despondent, and LizH was always singing DG's praises....and since my DH was ill, I thought..."why not"? I have NEVER gardened in my life....other than when my Dad made us hoe corn, and I would chop down every other one so I never had to hoe that one again. I have made so many friends on here, and love each one I have met, that I don't know what I would have done with out your caring support when Carl died....for that alone, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!
P.S. If you could see all the little peat pots that line my porch railing...all this from someone that never WANTED to garden!! (((((TO ALL)))))) Jo
Well, I found *the other site* the summer before we moved from Oklahoma to Tennessee. I lurked around on the southern gardening and cottage gardening forums, but never really felt "at home". When we moved, I suddenly found myself surrounded by a house gutted down to stud walls, and no time for gardening or the internet.
When the dust settled (quite literally and figuratively) I picked back up the gardening bug and gave GW another shot. It still just didn't "grab" me.
Out of boredom, I started nosing around the web for other gardening sites. Somehow I found this itty bitty site called "Dave's Garden", where Brook, justmelisa, Louisa, and 'shoe were having a good ole time with a guy named Dave.
As I recall, I snooped around a bit that day, then came back the next day - like a moth to the flame, LOL!
I signed up, nosed around some more; before long, I could no longer resist, so I posted something. And, as they say, the rest is history :)
And a wonderful history it is!
I am rally enjoying this thread. Hope the rest of you out there will post too :~)
I'm one of the many that Mark has brought to DG.
Met him through bats and he suggested i give it a try. Hadn't used the internet much before that and dragged my heels a bit. When i did have a look, all my old enthusiasm for gardening came flooding back, it's so great to find somewhere filled with other gardening nuts to share ideas with. Apart from the gardening - and i'd come here for that alone - it's a site filled with laughter and friendship. Rarely leave DG without having a smile to take with me for the rest of the day.
Thanks Mark.
Yep...a good thread Zany! One of my most recent favorites. Much obliged
Hey SHOE...think we should ask Trish how she found DG? I am sure Dave was too busy putting it together to tell her...so maybe Grannylois told her ;~)
I had some cyber friends on GW, and when some of those folks were mistreated and came here I did too. It was MUCH smaller then, and people just kept comming in at a surprising about 10 a day! We whooped and hollared when the population got to 1000, and 2000, and then 3000!! Now 60 or 70 people join every day and we have over 11,000. Dave's little bitty plant sure did grow fast. He says he started this site to keep track of his trades, then let a few friends join to make their garden journals, and then all of us came in, looked around and said "what a neat place". The gardening information is great, and so are the friendships. The $15 subscription was definitely a bargain, a whole lot of fun for 4 cents a day. Now we need to encourage more people to subscribe so they have full access to the whole site and Dave can get back to his garden full time.
Well said, MaryE!! Jo
Well I have Eyes to thank for telling me about Dave's, I was trading seeds and getting scammed left and right at another site.
I signed on over a year ago and have never looked back.I quit trading on all other sites, Dave's is the only place for me.
I'd like to thank everyone who made my first year so fun,and now how many I call my friends.
Thanks Eyes for this wonderful gift and such great friends I have made along the way.
Mike
Well - let me jump in here too. I was on another gardening web site and enjoying the exchanges. Then when traveling kept me away for a long while - I went back - but the traffic on that site was down and they were restructing. I did a google search - much like many other's did and found DG. I was hesitant due to the subscription - so I started snooping around. Then I saw a post from someone I thought I knew from the other site - MaVieRose!. So I looked up here email and asked if that was who it was that I remembered - then asked her if the subscription was worth it. WEll she chimed in like the bells of Canterbury! I joined at her invitation and walla - now you're stuck with me!
I have learned so much from your posts and exchanges and want to thank all of you who are helping out my gardens! It's a wonderful place to be a newbie!
Now would'nt we all be some neighborhood if we got together in one place? Could the world actually stand that much joy?
Suzy
I was trading and helping with problems of new ponders on GW but I was never happy there so when MaryE mentioned this DG place I came over and looked around but went back to GW. I was back there for a few times and came back over to check out DG again and have never left here since. So now you all are stuck with me. Thanks Dave for a wonderful place where people can meet and chat just like we are next-door neighbors which when you realize how small this world is getting we ARE next-door neighbors. Lani
Another member was telling me that I should check out DG and I did and got lost. I was trying to read a post here about where to buy a plant and I followed the link, which took me to a couple of other links and I never did find my way back to the first link. I didn't know anything about this site and was trying to read everything and got lost again, but everybody was real nice to me.
Zany I think that you and I hit it off right away and you kept me in stiches. I can't believe that it's been almost a year.
LOL Windy! I remember that you were a great sport and fairly begged to be picked on....and being the kind hearted and sensitive type I obliged...But seems to me someone back then kept sending me to my room for it!
LOL Zany I just love you so much (((HUG))) you have always reminded me of my best friend Theresa in grade school. I guess that's why I felt so at ease with you and knew that I could pick with you and enjoy you picking on me lol. My freind Theresa and I were the same way, we use to pick on each other so much that people would actuall think that we were fighting lol, but it was all done in the sprit of friendship...that's how I feel about you.
Oh by the way...go to your room! lol

hmmmmm- how did I find Dave's Garden?
Somehow Dave started trading seeds at some other site. Personally, I though he was crazy, since we never lived in a place long enough to actually grow anything. But, it made him happy, so I kept my mouth shut (mostly).
About a year later (he's still trading, and we've lived in 3 houses by this time), he comes running up the stairs to show me some trade tracking thing. I try to hide my rolling eyes (he's always got something new to show me), and sit through 30 minutes or so of computer jargin, all the while thinking "yeah, yeah, this is just what the world needs". (Supportive wife that I am).
One day, he pops up the stairs (runs, jumps- whatever) and tells me that he has a member. I'm wondering what on earth is going on- and sit through another 30 mins or so of monolog. As the weeks went by, several more "members" started using the trade tracker. I'm happy for Dave that he is providing a useful service to others (really, I am!). Soon, those couple of members start clamering for a forum (don't worry- I remember who you are- LOL). I'm pretty much thinking they are nuts, but what the hey....Dave is having fun. Dave has already created me an account, so I sign on and read for several weeks getting to know some of the people, but never speaking up. Yeah, I was pretty much spying on everyone. (Its happened before that Dave gets flirted with...poor guy never even knows about it).
Anyway....probably a month later, I speak up...not as Dave's wife, but just as "Trish". I get to know everyone at the time (all of say 20 people), decide everyone is likeable, and tell them that I'm Dave's wife. I quickly got hooked as fast as everyone else- on all day long. Good thing- too...the site grew by leaps and bounds very fast. It quickly took the both of us together to manage it.
Of course, there are no regrets- its been a wild ride to say the least. However, I never would have thought while listening to some boring trade tracker software stuff that it would turn out to be the DG that it is today.
He should tell me these things up front.....then I wouldn't have to go behind him months later and change the logo, and redo the layout of the forums and the colors (does anyone besides me remember these things?? Ick)...ect...
Anyway...that's the story of how _I_ found Dave's Garden.
:)
Trish
Thank you for your faithfulness and fortitude. Your are the rock of all of this I am sure! The words, Stand by your Man is what you are all about!! Many of us should take a lesson from you!
Cecelia
Trish I know just how you feel about listening to something that makes your man happy. I am so glad that you did do a little spying or else you would have been in as much trouble as I was trying to find your way around lol.
Isn't it wonderful how dreams turn out, he has brought a lot of wonderful people together with your help. I would like to say thanks to the both of yews lol
Trish...that is so interesting....to know how DG got "up and running" . I'm glad you stuck by him, and got all these nice additions! Thanks Girl! Jo
My mom, CoCo, told me about this site. I was just getting interested in gardening and my mom was just getting interested in the internet.
She told me about it so i got on and liked it really well. I have been on other message boards and never stayed very long for different reasons. This one has everything a website should. Info, pics, good webmaster, good friends and many different topics, something for everyone. It's also interactive with the snack trades and all! i know many people have met others from this site, how many other sites could you do that with, and feel good about it?
I followed a link Dave posted at 'another' gardening site - I'm amazed he didn't get Disneyed! :)
Pam
That is a wonderful story Trish!
And Pam, I think he kinda Disneyed himself when he started this fantasy garden we have all been so happily living in!
And Windy one...I love you too! You jumped in with both feet right from the first snd became an instant "old" friend!
CoCoseed I remember when you came on board! It tickled me to see a Mother and Daughter team in here...in fact it still does!
David was trading seeds on another website, and I was impressed and started trading, too. My first trade was with RiseAnn. Early on, I became a member here (at David's suggestion) for the purpose of tracking my trades which I was doing on the other website. That first fall, I made over 100 trades - and I still have seeds left over from then. It's been so nice to get to know the people here, and meet some in person. I've enjoyed the forums, the photos and everything else, and now I rarely trade seeds anymore. Go figure!
Sledder and Angelsong are the only other mother/daughter team i know of on here.
It's kinda fun, but-i gotta watch what i post-MotherSeed is always watching! :-)
CoCoSeed you have a wonderful mother and I am glad that I have gotten to know her.
Zany(((BIG HUG))) I can't help but remember how I use to put two n's in your name and was schocked when I finally notice that it only had one....me and my wonderful spelling lol.
Lol GrannyL, isn't that the way it goes. Now you have so many family, friends and plants that you don't know what to do with them all lol.
Actually, I'm part of a mother/daughter duo, too; my mom has just been really shy and quiet - like me, LOL. She's Edens_Gardener.
well I haven't been on as much as I would like to,
but when I do get on I don't want to stop,
Thank Dave for all of your work and putting up with us,
I find out about DG throught BusyBee and she and I have became very good friend, she is very kind and a beautiful person to know, wish I had more friends like her,
haven't been on here long enought to know to many,
so God Bless and Keep you all,
Mary_Mi
Well Mary_Mi we are glad BusyBee brought you in. Hope you hang out with us more so we can all get to know you better.
And Go_Vols, I know that your Mom has been shy about speaking up since she joined but she has really been a Shrinking Violet .... in fact that would have made a great name for her here. So Edens_Gardener....speak up and be heard please! We already adore your daughter so we would love to get to know you better also!
I'm very new to DG. I read a little blurb in a magazine about Garden Watchdog. I looked around and everyone seems so friendly and helpful.
Elsie, glad you caught the "blip"...you will never want to leave....DG is so addictive, but I don't think it is dangerous to our helth...just the opposite! Welcome! Jo
