I stumbled in one night when I was trying to identify the polygonum capitatum I found in a vacant lot. I searched thousands of sites and DG was one of the many. I found it on some site in Puerto Rico that I couldn't read because of my language dificiency but did manage to get an I.D. So I bookmarked several places of which DG was one. The next night I came back to check it out a little more and they have had to put up with me here ever since then!
So how did you discover DG?
How Did You find DG?
Mark sent me an e-mail telling me about it, so i came and have never left and now we have thousands more now.
Mystic dragged me in! LOL I was unhappy at another site, but still I was there, just not posting. She kept telling me to check out Dave's Garden. I did. Now you all are stuck with me too. :)
Michele
Dave had set up the trade lists/tracker for folks since everyone he was trading with at that time wanted to set up their stuff like that, of course, it wasn't like it is now hehehe. I happened to "stumble" on one of his posts with the hyperlink. There weren't all these forums either. But...I've been here ever since :)
I was in the middle of a trade with a member (who didn't subscribe in the end). She and I were discussing a restriction GW had on trading with the EU at the time and she told me about DG.
I got from my cousin MINISCHNUZ and tell me this DG is really cool so I am addict to it here are the best and friends all so friendly just want DG only. =) I always enjoy this very much.
I found this great site just by browsing thru the web and trying to find as much info as I could about gardening as well as houseplants. I think this is a really good thing!
I'M NOT QUITE SURE, BUT I THINK COCO TOLD ME ABOUT dAVE'S. WE JOINED ABOUT THE SAME TIME, WHEN THE MEMBERSHIP WAS FREE. SHE WAS MY FIRST TRADE PARTNER ON DAVES. I FEEL WE HAVE BECOME GOOD FRIENDS,AND WE DON'T LIVE VERY FAR FROM ONE ANOTHER.WE'VE MET!
asked a question at another site, and Mary from Ireland emailed me with the info I needed and a link to Dave's. I never looked back.
At least two people told me to check this site out very early. I came, I left without joining because I was going through one of those, "I don't need the internet" spells that hit me occasionally. THEN, I got really distrubed at the way another site was treating several of my friends and I checked out Dave's again, wondered where my brain had been the first time.
I found this site by browsing the web about gardening..
I am like Jody, I came across a hyperlink about the trade tracker and I agree it's sure not the same as it was back then. Sure changed allot. Heck of it is the thing that brought be here in the first place I never have time to use. lol ( I know Dave I promised I would use it. lol ) Once I really got into DG and all the changes started happening the trading wasn't important anymore. It was the friendships I made and still make, and all the information that is available at your fingertips. I very rarely have to leave DG to find out any information I want to know on a plant. Its all right here under the page that says welcome home mystic....(my home)
I have NO Idea!!!!! It was New Year's Eve 2000, everyone was asleep, I was drinking all by my self and I stumbled on to DG!!!!! I have no clue what plant or search or garden thing I was looking for but I found DG!!!!! Sure am glad I did!!!!
sue
I was searching for info on White Half runner beans, that my Grandma grows as I was planting them for the first time,
in my search came up the heirlooms thread, I think I joined the very next day.
Becky
I was hunting gardening forums, did a search on google.
Ruth
I was doing a search on google about saving seeds and found the link to DG. Jumped right in and joined and posted a question. Almost immediately I got an email from Dave that said he had moved my post to where it would get better coverage for what I was asking. I thought, wow, this place is really cool. The webmaster himself sends you messages and helps you out. Like Mystic, I am so thankful for the friendships that have grown from DG but I love all the info too!!!
i was doing a google search and stumbled in, never left.
A non-member at the time told me about Daves and now she is a member too.
I came by hyperlink. Was hesitant to join at first, took me several months. I kept stumbling onto this site, seeing that it was growing and joined. It has been one of the best things, I have ever done. My husband asks me what I am doing. I tell him I am at Dave's Garden. He just shakes his head and chuckles.
was searching for info on a plant and DG was one of the links it found i joined the same day
After deciding to stop killing my houseplants I started doing a web search. I first found GW, I've never had a bad experience there, but I don't post often.
It was through other's poor experiences that I found DG. Not long after joining, Dave made the tough decision to go subscriber based. It wasn't a tough decision for me!
My plants and I thank you all!!
I was looking for data base info for my own plants, and Dave's was the most user friendly. After wandering through the database, I decided to check out the forums, and when I couldn't post, I didn't hesitate to subscribe. I would pay more for a magazine subscription I don't read, so this was a good deal even before I knew what it was! Both my DH & I visit the Garden, and we like the personal touch. Where else could you see your webmaster in dreads!
so far 13 out of 22 of us stumbled in as a result of searching the web.
Come on the rest of you who are checking in...how about it...how did you find your way home?
Mike Piper introduced me to Daves and I am forever grateful :)
some former GW folks kindly invited me over, and since i have two Dave's of my own (a DH and a DS), i figured it was destiny... i've been here and happy ever since :-)
A DG member pointed the way for me I think!! So much to take in here I can't even remember that far back :-)
Jane from Southern Ireland, no lomger here, rescued me from GW when I was reprimanded. I then told everyone I knew and everyone I had contact with on GW.
Mark
I had belonged to GW and was doing a trade with a lady-she told me she had a list at daves and to check it out she was member #13! I wanted my own tradelist and dave was a doll helping me! Ive been here ever since-and Im never ever leaving!!! ;]
I still tell everyone about davesgarden! Its the best darn garden site on the web!!!
Thanks Dave for all your work and bring all together!!
Whilst listening to "Gardeners Question Time" on the BBC, I was just browsing around the 'net, looking for gardening sites, and HOPPLA there was DG. I had a look around the site, and immediately paid my $15.
A great site, and I recommensd it to all of my english-speaking friends.
Both Dave and Yourselves have made this place uniquely excellent.
All the best
Wintermoor
I was LOST in the dreary darkness of turmoil at another gardensite Folks! OHHHHH How I LONGED for a better life! I was surrounded by an Ogre...stink and muck-muck was a regular feature there! What to do, what to do!??
Alas, one day the ethereal spirit of the internet realm must've zeroed in on me! I began to see a tiny pinpoint of light! "YAY!" I heard myself say to my myself. "Yay!!!" I heard me say it again! Surely another garden must exist! One that is full of light, friendship, comraderie! A garden of information that abounds from all regions of the world! A garden of Human tenderness, care, and concern! A garden of patient people (that can put up with my incessant chattering and downright silliness)!!!)
And so Ladies and Gentlemen one day I was magically transported to the Wonderful World of DG. And here I stay, transfixed! Ahhhh....Life is Good!
(Oh yeh...by the way. JustMeLisa invited me here, too!) ô¿ô
Praise Be! Thank you JustMeLisa for showing poor lost in the dark Horshoe the Light!
Great story Shoe. Thankyou!
NEXT?

I was also becoming very disalusioned (sp)from "the" other site and someone mentioned DG. I checked it out and have been on here everyday, except when I'm not at home. I noticed on my member page that I then listed GW as my favorite garden site...wrong. Dave, is there anyway that can be omitted...please!!!
I may not be an avid poster, but believe me when I tell you that I feel like I know all of you personally. Let me give you an example...3 days ago I went on a small trip with my sis and her DH. My sis was taking a small nap and her husband and I were just chatting away about my gardening. Before you know it, I was sharing all kinds of stories about what's going on in DG's world. My best story was about Shoe's post on planting his "maters" and then how Weezingreens posted the pic of her DH planting his tomatoes in the snow...we laughed so hard. I then talked to both of them about the DG Roundup and my sis was trying all types of ways to get me to be able to attended it...sure, I'll fly all the way to Tenn. for 3 days!! Anyone want to help with the air fare??
You all are such great people, and I do hope to meet some of you some day.
Donna
Last June, when we went to a greenhouse to pick out flowers for my FIL's funeral, I noticed a huge, gorgeous plant growing in front of the building. They told me it was a blue angel hosta. DH bought me 3 of them, and after planting them, I thought they needed something to go with them, so I went and bought a few things to go into that little bed with them. That little bed looked so nice, that I started looking at the rest of our 5 acres. No landscaping at all. Totally bare. I had no idea where to even start, so I started searching the web. I stumbled upon "that other site" and it wasn't long before some members over there started giving me a bad time about asking newbie questions. DorisJ and Nana (Herblady) rescued me and brought me over here. I, too, am now banned from that site.

It was my good fortune to stumble upon Dave's
while looking (on Google) for Delosperma cooperii
seeds. Azalea's name kept coming up (here at DG's)
as having plants to trade. I had no idea what
a site this was!!! :-)
So many folks (here) were just terrific in
helping me learn "All Things DG" and/or "the ropes"
of this site and I really appreciate it.
Like 'Shoe, I said: "Yay!"
and have been here ever since.
After many hours in Dave's Garden, with only some chips to sustain me, I can truly say it is "a site for sore eyes"!
I found DG by way of Roadrunner and Lizh.I've never been on any other garden sites, but I don't think you'd ever find one with members as nice as everyone is here. One thing that I see is, people seem to respect each others opinions even if it differs from theirs.I wouldn't mind having you all as my next door neighbor.......
