Worm and virus alert

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

I've gotten that "Snow White" one twice in the last two weeks, the one from "Hahaha", and thought I'd let you all know that it's still out there (deleted immediately of course, didn't open it). Also, I just got one from a friend that had an attachment called SULFNBK.EXE. This one is not the hoax one that was going around a while back ~ this one is a real worm. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.magistr.24876@mm.html I deleted it immediately, too, so my 'puter's fine. My girlfriend got out the Raid, so worm's dead on her end. I never did figure out who was sending the "Snow White" one, though.

Just thought I'd let you all know.

Thanks, Wingnut. Same-old, same-old, huh? I got the Snow White attachment from someone, too, and none of the headers in the e-mail were from anyone in my addressbook. I figure the sender got my e-mail address as the result of a forwarded message which didn't have all the previous recipients' e-mail addresses deleted; the viruses also search for e-mail addresses in the victim's folders sometimes.

Aaaaaargh - delete those headers when ya forward stuff, friends! Just copy and paste the tidbit you want to forward into a new e-mail and start from a clean slate. :)

Yep, same old same old. I never open any attachments, .exe, .dll or whatever, unless I KNOW they were sent by someone I know. I'll either send another e-mail asking or call them. And that's a good point ~ deleting all those headers. Makes it easier to get to whatever it is you're supposed to read, too.

I used to receive forwards from an old friend all the time.. no messages to me personally.. just forwards that required opening six or seven windows. In one day I received some religious message about angels and another with an obscene cartoon depicting the "basket trick". I am sure she had no idea what she was sending out... she just had me on some mailing list.

Cut and paste is a wonderful option. I can send someone a message and add a joke or something inspirational at the end. (I usually delete the inevitable threats at the end of inspirational messages that direct you to send this to all your friends or your toes will fall off.)

I've been deleting messages like a crazed woman so if someone has sent me something in the last couple of weeks I apologise if it was a DG member! I have received mail from some newbies now and again and don't recognize them as members because of their newness - if you catch my drift!! thanks for the reminder Wingnut - I shall try to remain as vigilant as I can!!

Your welcome, Louisa! I'm not computer savvy enough to know which attachments are okay and which aren't, so I just delete them all.

Oh, Weez ~ aren't those with 6 windows maddening?! Nowadays, I'm not sure if some computer hacker's figured out how to send a virus via a .eml file or whatever it's called, so I use that as an excuse to delete those, too. Otherwise, my curiosity would make me risk it and open them. LOL! I don't like those threats either. I'm waiting for the one that says "Send to ten friends or your butt will fall off." Sounds like an easy way to lose 30 pounds to me. Ah, I wish they were true...
