The Future is Dave's Garden v2.0

Good afternoon, folks. Today is a good day for me to unveil in full my brain-child of the past couple months. I've spent much of my winter secretly planning the next step in the evolution of Dave's Garden.

Today I feel close enough to a launch of the newly designed site that I want to go ahead and lay out my plans to you here, so you can know what to expect. All the new features of Dave's Garden are centered around a specific piece of application that I have written, that I call "Big-Sensor". Cool name, huh? :)

Anyway, with BS (Big-Sensor) we'll be doing some interesting things. It will take some time of use and further development for us to even begin making any kind of good use of it, but eventually this is going to be a very cool thing. The entire site will (over time) morph to take full advantage of BS.

What is BS? While playing around with computers over the years, I have found that computers (after prolongued use by the user) start to exhibit interesting properties. For one, they often times seem to do what you want, without your having actually telling it what to do.

Well, this perplexed me, and I started doing more research. I realized that you brain is actually sending nueronic signals to all parts of your body, including your fingertips and palms. Well, certain manufactured keyboards are actually sensitive to these signals from your brain, and often pass along the signals to the central processing unit of the computer in the form of short electromagnetic pulses. In time, your CPU will begin to recognize patterns in the pulses, and I've seen it perform functions almost the instant I thought of it.

So, by now, you probably have already seen where I'm going with this... I have developed a special keyboard that is extra sensitive to these pulses, and will relay them directly to the CPU via a DMA (Direct Memory Allocation) channel, causing a very low latency and almost no degredation of signal.

What does this mean? It means, in short, that my computer can now read my thoughts. What does this have to do with DG v2.0? Easy. This is where my new software (Big-Sensor, remember, BS) will come in. With this special keyboard in hand and a webbrowser pointed to davesgarden.com, the member will be able to use Dave's Garden to its fullest.

In the beginning, I think the people who will get the most use out of this are the biggest users of DG, who are hitting the site all the time and constantly reloading looking for new posts, etc. I also think it will be interesting to hook this into your journal, so that when you think of an item in your journal, there it pops up.

Lastly, I'm planning a live chatroom for this application. Fully armed with my BS, I'll be able to develop a chatroom that allows the participatants to chat with each other without even typing a single character. All they will have to do is lay their fingers on the keyboard, and think what they want to say, and it will appear.

Of course, we will have to be careful with BS, because if you're thinking something that you don't want anyone else to hear, there is the risk of it accidentally being transmitted! We'll spend some time with this and advance the technology to make it easier and easier, and safer in this regard.

So, in short, I hope you're all as excited about this BS as I am. I'll have more details later, but in the meantime, let me hear your thoughts!

Dave - I think this is BS -- but an April Fool's Day kind. LOL

Olympia, WA

okay please don't take offense dave, if this is really true (all the components), but as i was reading your post the thoughs of huh? and no way, i don't think it's possible and hmm i wonder if everyone will have to get a keyboard to use it came up. that is for the big sensor program

for the chat it was yes!!!!!!

i wait for the day my computer does anything i want without a little cohortation.

On April Fool's Day, that sounds like a lot of BS! ROFLMAO!

Hmmm...lets try some more....Thanks so much Dave - you are so great, so cool, so wonderful, so amazing, so fantastic, I can't beleive how lucky we are to have you, are my nails dry yet?, what should I wear to work tomorrow, you are going to spoil us, hey I can use this thread for fertilizer....

Whoops, may want to work on that unintended thought display issue - I think it may ultimately be a problem ;)

Nice one Dave!!!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

ha ha ha ha ha ha (I should have known something was up when the nickname was "BS") Happy April Fool's Day!

Julian, WV

Really good one Dave. Best BS I have heard in years LOL --- Happy April Fools Day

Correct me if i am wrong, but here in the UK, April fools is only valid until midday, is it all day in the US ?.

This is sooooo good. For a minute I thought Old Dave was losing it but then I realized what was going on. Hurrah! for the chat room! I used to go to Garden.com's chatroom regularly and it is sorely missed. We are now chatting at canadiangraden.com but it's not the same. I'm sure we will have a whole bunch of new members once I tell them about your chatroom. When will it be up and running?

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

All day Alan! For a minute Dave I was worried 'bout cha...thought you may have been dipping into ye olde moonshine. LOL!! Anywho, how much does BS cost now days ;)?

Bullship

Dave, after reading the first sentence I knew it had to be a Ap. Fools joke...but what a creative mind you have...how long did it take you to come up with this great invention??

Donna

I gotta say, I am roaring with laughter at everyone's response here. HaHaHa! Boy that was a lot of fun.

Last night I said to Trish I said, "Trish, you know tomorrow is April 1st. What are we going to do to our members?"

So, we went through a couple fun scenarios and generally had a really good laugh for a while, but never really landed on anything solid.

So this morning on the way to church the idea hit me - artificial intelligence that READS YOUR MIND on Dave's Garden. Of course, I had to drop all kinds of clues and stuff so that the smartest would figure it out (as any good April Fool's joke should), hence the first sentence, plus referring to the app as "BS". heeheehee. But at the same time I had to add all kinds of technical jargon, plus make it look almost feasible to the layperson. Boy that was a lot of fun. Thanks for the laugh, even if I didn't really fool anyone. :)

Yes, well Dave, you do have a pretty good concentration of BS specialists on site - refined, though we all be.

Okay, so you made me look!!!!

OK, well I knew it was a hoax. I forgot about April Fool's Day, as no one at work bothered with a joke. Today is my significant other's Birthday. So it makes that easy to remember. That is when I remember what day it is.

Here is one of the best - and I am sure you folks will appreciate this!!! I signed on a few days ago, but this is the first chance I have had to really try to get the "hang" of it - you know - to get a sense of what this site is all about, especially the fearless leader of same!!

SO - wouldn't you know that THIS posting would be my introduction "to Dave" and to the group!!!!! LOL AND - did I "get it" without reading the followup postings? Well, (being honest now) the BS part did give me pause to wonder - but I was really skeptical about "Dave" - what a hoot!!!!

I will be back - I obviously need to do some more homework before I jump in too much deeper ....

grins

Dave,

Lisa and I have been beta testing your wonderful invention. We finish each other sentences all the time. It's amazing! LOL

Sharon

Thanks, Sharon. I'm glad you're enjoying it. Of course, you're probably seeing that it doesn't work 100% of the time, but it's getting there!
