Spring came last week - gorgeous!! Today we are under a heat advisory. It's crazy!!! It's 92 right now and tomorrow even worse at 95!!! Kathleen those poor roses!!! I've just planted all those shrubs, the daffs are finished and I'm drooping!! So I've gone from using heat to air overnight which means no respite from huge bills!! Ah well - we'll probably get snow next week!! :-)
Would you believe - heat advisory!!
Today it was 78 degrees at 10:00 am and it was 90 by 4:30...this is crazy!
Oh, Louisa! I thought Texas was the hottest place on earth! Ya'll beat us by 5 degrees ~ it was only 90 here today. But there's a nice little red storm coming ~ weatherman says small hail if it holds together long enough to hit us. Ahh, life in Texas ~ fry 'em one minute, freeze 'em the next.
It certainly is a bit wild vic don't you think!! One area here reached 96!!!! I saw the weather forecast Wingnut for Texas and a tornado warning too. Looks as though some of you might be in for a rough night!! I sure hope not but take care anyway!!
It sure is strange weather??????????????hummmmm????
I can't believe I wish it would rain!!!!
Furnace on last week, 87 degrees yesterday, 86 today, hope to be back down to the 50's by the end of the week--Mother Nature is giving my garden and me the fits!!!!!!
Louisa, there was rotation spotted on radar about 60 miles south of us, but no reports of a sighting (*whew*). And the storm petered out before it got near us. We didn't even get a drop! Even if it wouldn't have petered out, it wouldn't have done us much good ~ went to the east of us. But there were some pretty clouds with the sun bouncing off them! http://davesgarden.com/journal/si/5470.html (Yeah, we need to put a new flag on the pole in the tree. I just can't bring myself to take that one down. It was a cotton fabric one that a friend gave us when our nylon one was stolen. It's been there since Sept. 13th.)
What a fantastic picture Wingnut. Awesome!! Relieved to know you're OK!! I guess you've had your fair share of the wet stuff though and here we are begging for rain. Another day in the a/c for me. Promises to be an even bigger scorcher!! Poor plants!!
Actually, we've happened to be left out of many of the big storms ~ maybe have a sum total of 3 inches this past month? I'm not sure about that. It's weird ~ in this little valley where we live, it seems that the nasty-bad storms miss us. I don't know what causes it. Or maybe it's just me looking on the bright side. ;-) Yeah, now that I think of it, that's probably it (I just remembered the flood last year http://www.moment.net/~wingnut/fall2001flood.htm )
I remember Wingnut!! Looked at the pic again and do remember when you posted!! There was another photo wasn't there?? For a minute I thought the weathermen had got it wrong for today. It was cloudy and overcast and I managed to do some gardening this morning but......they were right!! Not sure what's it's like out there now but I'm staying put in the a/c!! Storms should be coming but don't know when. Can't wait!!
Take it slow and easy. Drink plenty of liquids.
I know that Jim - but try telling my old man that!!! He's in now thank goodness!!
Yes, Louisa ~ there's supposed to be 6 or 8 pics at that link. Are they loading for you? If not, I'll check it out to see what's wrong.
VERY sage advice, Jim!!!!!
I know how you feel Louisa, it is 98* here right now...
I'm trying not to work too much/too hard, but since I have been stuck in this house all winter I can't stand to be inside. Except to get another cold drink and to check in at DG now and then, grin.
just take it easy Jody!!
Now THERE'S a good excuse for taking breaks, Jody. *grin*
Louisa ~ here's a neat trick (if you didn't already know about it). I half-fill a milk jug with water and freeze it, then fill the rest of the way up right before I go out to the garden and take it with me. It stays cool and makes more water when it thaws. And you know you're doing good when you've finished that gallon of water!
I knew you were not just a pretty face - you have brains too!! Great idea, especially for DH!! I can't stay out in the sun very long anyway - medication. But could put up an umbrella, walk around giving directions and carry the water for the worker!!! lol!!
91 here right now. getting ready to have a thunder storm looks like so i am getting off the comuter for a while.
Tee-hee, thank you, Louisa. Yep, great for DH when he's out working, too. When Kenny goes to cut wood or other hard and hot work, I'll put a full jug that's frozen in his ice chest along with one or two that're only half-frozen. Cheaper than buying ice and melts into more water in case he uses one of the others to pour over his head. *grin*
Well I think it's the best idea I've heard in a long time and I thank you for the tip gracious lady!! Janet don't blame you!! Hope it's not too bad - at least you are going to get some wet stuff!!
Just heard on the NBC Nightly news that the reason for all the heat is because the jet stream is too far north for some reason. That's what's not letting the cold air from Canada come down like normal, but it IS letting the warm air from the Bahamas come farther north than normal. I'm headed outside to see what the Bahamas smells like ~ closest I'll ever get to them in this life.
lol - me too!!!! Oops!! Bad lightning!! Here comes the rain, and the storm!! Guess I'll have to close down and I've only just come on line.....shoot!! At least it has to cool down now :-) Bahamas or no Bahamas!!!
Wingnut, - How do the bahamas smell like? do share, as I'm not likely to get there either, the closest I'll get is by a far away friend sniffing it and telling me about it..... lol
lol Pebble!!! Had a wonderful couple of storms and the rain came and the rain came again along with some brief power cuts! :-) It's cooled down 20 degrees - yippee!!
Well, Pebble, right now it smells like polecat ~ there's a skunk out there somewhere and I hope he keeps a movin' right on along. I think we'll keep the dogs inside tonight ALL night!
Louisa! I'm so glad you've cooled down! No heat stroke for you, eh? :-)
lol Wingnut - hope it's smelling of roses soon!!! Thanks, I'm glad it did cool down for at least one evening but the heat was oppressive in the house and kept the ceiling fans going. Another scorcher today and then guess what!! Cooling down to the norm!! 60s and 40s at night. Bliss!!
Yes - cool weather should be headed your way. Temp is supposed to be in 60's today and 50's tomorrow. It was high 80's yesterday - 90's earlier in week. Winds wer attrocious yesterday. It is so dry. We need rain so bad!
Yep, cooled down here and polecat went on by (thank God!!). I'm kind of dissapointed, though ~ it had been smelling like bananas, tanning oiled tourists and nubile young boat-boys named Pepe. Now it's back to smelling like snow, sled dogs and guys so bundled up you can barely hear them say, "You hoser, eh!"
You wish Wingnut!!!! Nubile indeed!!! You could always turn your dreams into reality you know - take a vacation!! Glad that critter has gone to annoy someone else :-) Jewel wish I could send you rain. I know what you mean though - our drought problems have been going on for 2 year's now. Touch wood, the well hasn't run dry yet!!
