Eau de Parfum skunk

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Well my day started out just great. Got up and went to the kitchen and man I could smell skunk really strong. I thought I must have forgot and left a window open last night. Well as I was coming back to the bedroom the smell was getting stronger. Then I realized it was Chester( the dog). Well I put him outside and DH says man it stinks in here, I said yep looks like the dog had a fight with a skunk and who let him in smelling like that? Well his answer was I thought I smelt it when I let him in last night but thought there was just a skunk outside. (geez!!!) Well the poor thing is afraid of his shadow anyway and won't go out by himself and had to be left out all day all alone and looks like he will be for a few days. Gave him a bath in tomato juice tonight it helped but not enough for him to stay in. All my windows are open and the house is getting better. Anybody got any other ideas to get rid of the stink?

Oh my goodness Peggy and your poor dog!! His life must be pretty miserable at the moment. Imagine having to live with that smell day and night!! I have no idea how you would get rid of the smell indoors or outdoors for that matter - just hope I never have to deal with it. I'm sure someone will come up with some great answers!! You could all go stay in a hotel I suppose :-)

Poor Chester!!!! My xSIL had a dog that got nailed just before heading out to Ma. We gave her a tomato juice bath, but I have no doubt that it was a VERY long trip home. Good luck to you all.

My DH says to add lemon juice to the tomato juice since skunk urea is a base, so you want to bring up the acid level to kill the smell. You need to soak the dog for awhile, and maybe wash him a couple times. Thank goodness we don't have skunks up here, though the porcupines can make a dog pretty miserable.

Wow thanks everybody the house is not to bad now it's Chester I want to get smelling better he will think he is being punished having to stay out he's hiding under the steps now. Weez we will add the lemon juice to tomorrow's bath. Thanks it sure can't hurt anything.

WE bought something at the pet store called Skunk Odor Remover, made by Natures Miracle, and it Really works well. Katie (our Australian Shepherd) has been hit several times and this stuff helped to get rid of the odor faster then anything else. One would think she would learn after a few times, but NO!

You know, in all fairness to the pooch, I think our opinion concerning bad smells is different than that of a dog. I'm sure the skunk musk is offensive, but probably less so to dogs. Consider the things they roll in willingly! When the salmon spawn in the rivers up here, most doggies are not welcome in the house after rolling in rotten salmon!

Our last visit from the septic pumper left a dollup of septic goop on the ground, and our dear little doggie wasted no time rolling in it. The greatest pain to the pup is the fact that none of their people buddies want anything to do with them, and that concerns them!
