Okay...third times the charm....(having trubble here!)
Anyway, here's the pic! You can just tell what a pleasant person she it just by looking at her, eh?
(Pay no attention to the man with the gray winter-time beard...rumor has it that when the beard gets trimmed it is a sure sign we've had our last frost around here, then folks for miles around finally start planting their warm weather crops.)
YAY!..it made it this time! By the way, I just noticed we are both holding our left hands down...we were doing our best to keep Hazel (Lab/mix loveable) off of us!

Visit From Swoznick
What wonderful mugs (that means beautiful people)!! And look at all that green around y'all! Oh, I'm jealous, 'Shoe! Did you get your warming table done? How's it working out? Kenny and I put ours on the back burner for a while ~ it's spring and we'd rather be out in the garden! LOL!
Well good morning to you both...it is so nice to meet you at last.
Wow, shoe, your GH is really full and big. Nice stuff ya got there. You look just like I pictured ya too, cute and cuddly with that beard.
Swoznick, haven't talked to you yet, but it's nice to meet you too. So glad you had a nice visit. BTW, what's your first name?
Donna
Now Ain't she purty? And looks like she has a sense of humor...would have to to be able to put up with shoe that long! (just kidding Shoe). Shoe, I thought with all the cooking and eating you do that you would run to more fat! Very trim!Hurry and trim the beard...time to plant here!! Jo
Awwwww, nice to meet you Swoznick! Now, Shoe - ya done good with that photo. ;) Sorry I had to zip outta chat so quickly earlier - you got it jest right, though!
Thanks so much for the pic. What a great couple! You'd fit right in to the Alaska scene!
I swear to you, I somehow knew this would be the DG POD in the newsletter. Eeeeeeerie.....LOL
awwwwwwww! what a great shot! you folks look great! :-)
Nice to meet you Swoznick. I bet you both had a wonderful time. Shoe, I bet beard trimming time will be coming up pretty soon since our last frost date is 4/15 in my neck of the woods!
Nice to meet you both.
Jo, I agree, I thought he'd be fatter!!
Calalily....maybe he cain't cook as good as he claims!! Or maybe he really does work it off. Jo
Love that greenhouse! Nice looking couple too. :D
If he's like Kenny, he's got an empty leg to put all the food he eats in and then he runs it all off!
Hi Swoznick, very nice to meet you! It looks like you two had a great visit!
And Shoe, this is only the second time I have seen that furry little face of yours! You know, you are awful thin for someone who always talks about food! LOL My husband always says he does not trust a skinny cook!
I am so jealous! I NEVER get to meet people from DG! Well, except for Mystic, well and Flow and Brad, okay and GW and GH, gosh, hardly get to meet anybody. giggle But there are a lot more of you I would LOVE to meet! :)
Naw, he looks just about like I thought, a kindly looking soul. Swoznick I had't formed and opinion about you yet but it looks like you both were having a great time. Both with big smiles - Shoe must have just told you a funny!
GOOD GRIEF!!! I didn't know I's gonna be pictured all over the place! I declare! I just got home from the mkt, walked around a bit and decided to check in b4 I unloaded the truck. Sha-zaam! What'd I see? Oy vey.
As for all ya'll comments: mercy! Ya'll gotta forgive me for being so skinny. I really just have skinny arms, the rest of me is normal. Well, okay...two of my legs are right skinny too. As for the beard...Yes Carol! It just may get trimmed tomorrow (I hope to plant maters today or tomorrow!). (I'm looking forward to shedding.)
As for cooking and eating...I do both! But only once a day and that may have something to do with being "slim". (And by the way BS...you tell your hubby he can trust me!) (By the way again, "second time" seeing my mug? You peekin in my winder?)
Wingnut, like you I put the table on the back burner also...we're too far along now to need it so will make it this fall.
As for that Dave guy...I'm still trying to figger out his formula for deciding what pics go in the Newsletter! How's he do that!?
Hi again Shoe and nice to meet you Swoznick!!!! Funny thing, this morning someone was talking about beards and here we have the the piece de resistance!! (sp) It's gonna get hot soon Shoe - want I come and give you a trim...lolol!!
Shoe's DW must be tuning up the weed whacker for that beard. ;) Swoznick, what brought ya to Shoe's neck of the woods?
Wow nice to see you both. Sure some happy faces there. Now you are both celebrities you made the newsletter. lol
Maybe he put the ones who hollered loudest on there first. Did ya' notice that my front yard was plastered all over everyone's inboxes the other day? I'm right proud ~ how'bout you, 'Shoe?
Nice to meet you both....meeting fellow dg'ers is sooo fun!!! Thanks for the pic...vic
Okay folks...it's now official...folks around here can now plant their maters and other warm weather crops. (That means you too Carol!)
Proof to follow in next thread...
Hey - Folks - Nice to meet all of you. Yes I did have fun with Shoe and family. His daughter is quite the hostess - and let me set one thing straight - that was his wife taking the pictures!! Ok - Shoe - It's DW's turn - where's the other photo? DAg it - I told on you!
It so happened that during a thread on File', I asked if anyone had sassafrass cuttings or rootings. Well Shoe popped up and told me we were practically neighbors. I drive by his place on the way to work every day - for like the last 15 years.... small world isn't it? So he gave me the kind invite to come by and he would dig up a couple sassafrass trees for me. Now who could refuse an invite like that? I sure could'nt. Folks - they have the most serene place tucked back in the woods that you ever saw. Gardens everywhere and ground cover between them. With everything he was showing me - even if he ate four squares a day - he'd work it off!!!
So I have a feeling that we'll be regular trading partners and I'll learn quite a bit from this guy!!
While you folks were reading and ribbing about the pictures - I've been to my homeplaces on the coast and did yard work down there. I brought back a big wash tub load of clippings to root for different shrubberies. Wish me luck with the rooting horomone - now if I only knew someone with a willow tree....
Suzy is the first name - please feel free to use it and I'll quit hiding behind swoznick.
See Ya!
Suzy
Ok - I'll bite - remember I'm new here - be gentle with me - but what is Roundup?
Suzy
Howdy suzy. (I thought you were down east working!) RoundUp is a get-together the DG family is planning. To be held in Tenn around the end of June. Dave even made a special forum for it to make arrangements and such. I'm still hoping I can make it, and hope to bring DD...I really think you'd enjoy it!
Suzy....you lucky girl to have met one of our favorite guys!! Go to the Round Up Forum...start reading the oldest threads first...then sign up for this fun time in TN. It is proving to be THE event of the season...or the century...heck...of the Millineum!! You will kick yourslef for not going...later, when you get to know so many people on DG. Iris is a new member too...and she has signed in like she has know us forever.
A lot of us have MSN...if you do, email me for my addy.
Aha! I found it, Suzy!
Oh what fun!!! Suzy, glad you go to meet the resident "y'all ain't right" man! Tell me... did ya manage to get some reallly good, prized cuttings from Shoe?? As fer you Shoe man...we want to see your mug sans facial fuzzies!!
"eyes"
eyes....best I can do was the pic of me when I posted "official mater planting time"! My face never gets "hairless"...I like ya'll too much to ever make you see so much ugliness. (Plus I have a beard cuz I'm lazy...I just don't wanna shave everyday!) (And when I tend to see myself in the mirror I always scream out loud...it's a frightful thang!)
So is Swoznick still travelling? Where are ya, Swoznick? Give us your first impressions of our Horseshoe! :)
Ok - folk's I'm here and accounted for. Actually I've been back to see Shoe - and even carried my son with me. I can't say which visit I enjoyed better. Both were really fun. Shoe and the family are warm and genuine people. It was friendship at first sight! I really like his place too - there is something growing in every nook and cranny - not only that - but it all talks to you and reaches out to shake hands - right down to the red clover. Shoe says he is shy - I have'nt found that out yet. Both visits I left with sore jaws from talking so much. You can't leave there empty handed either. First trip was sassafrass and fresh eggs - the next trip was to fill in spots of my garden - lets see - this haul had moonvine, 3 kinds of basil, lemon grass, lufa sponge seeds, basil seeds, tomatoes, and fresh picked lettuce for supper. It'll take me all weekend to plant everything. So he gives freely of his heart and the work of his hands!
I found a kindred spirit in Shoe and his family. Shoe is a story teller to be sure - and I grew up one too. Folks like that just tend to "get on" real well and real quick. What really impresses me is his family just idolize the man. DW and DD speak so lovingly of him - and he's just across the yard. I don't know if he set it up that way cause he knew I was coming over - but I suspect it's because they do everything together. It's refreshing to see.
Now let's take a look at that sense of humor.... I did'nt tell my son much about Shoe - nor where we were going when we headed over there. It's a short drive from my place to his - and when I got off the interstate at an exit I have'nt used before - well DS started asking questions. Then I turned off onto a country road (still paved and painted by the state) - he was even more curious. Well when I turned off of that and headed up a hill on a gravel road and into the woods - DS got scared. I assured him that it had'nt rained lately and I would not need the 4 wheel drive. Son's eyes were size of 50 cent pieces. At the driveway - DW was putting in a rock and flower garden - waved me on in. Then we passed the chicken pen - Son got scared - Mom where have you brought me? Hahahahah - then he saw Shoe. WEll.... I think the first words were - Oh My God!!!! hahahahahaha. I introduced those two - and even I could'nt get a word in edgewise. You know - time just flies at Shoe's place - and it's easy to lose track there. 2 hours later - I was ringing the bell on the wagon to go home - back end of the truck loaded down and the sun setting in the West. A good time had by all.
All kidding aside - you won't find much better than Shoe and his family.
(Shoe - is this a good trade for the plants?) You must tell the oyster story.....
Thanks Guys
Suzy
Hey - about my traveling... I have inherited my homeplaces on the coast of NC. 230 miles from where I live now - I travel every other weekend to maintain the places and mow the grass. Now there's 10 acres of this stuff to keep up - so it's not anything to shake a stick at. So if I'm not posting right back to ya - could be a "Downeast or mowing weekend" hang in there - I'll get back to ya asap - I love to talk as much as everybody else here and surely I can't be left outa the gab sessions! I'm a lucky gal - I get to garden in two areas of the state that are vastly different. Piedmont and coastal region - 6 nautical miles from Cape Lookout. Grab your maps and start looking - it's the Southern tip of the Outer Banks! A little village called Marshallberg. Let's see who can find it first - sing out when you do!!!
Suzy
Awww, I'd love to have met you guys, Suzy! Are you guys going to the roundup?
Suzy!!! I declare! I'm a'thinking Folks she IS a good story teller!! And she did a good job at it! But she's right...her son and me were gabbing and a'gabbing! (she's doing a great job with him folks!)
However, don't let her fool ya...this little place really ain't Disney World! (Maybe Dizzy World tho!) This time of yr there is lots going on, mostly plants/g-house, etc.
As for the "oyster story"...perhaps some of ya'll already know the technique! I was simply telling Swoznick's son how we can make the most of our food! We started talking oysters (can't remember why) and I said the best way to eat them is RAW. And best to tie a string around one, flavor it w/a dash of hot sauce and swallow it! Then just grab the string and pull it back up. (It slides back up as easy as it goes down.) You can then flavor it again!! And repeat! Get more for your money that way! (Or if you like, you can pass it around and share it w/others!). Her son blanched!! And gagged all the way to their truck! (I loved it!)
ROFLOL! Shoe that boy may have blanched at it but if he is anything like my boys were when young he is telling all his friends how to get the most out of your oysters!
I feel a bit peeek-ED now. Thanks, Shoe. :#
Oh, Suzy! You're gonna' give 'Shoe a run for his money on the story telling I can see now! And 'Shoe! LOVE dem oysters raw! But hold the strings, please. BLECH! You NUT!!
swoznick...Marshallberg.... Pamlico Sound...near Beaufort and Morehead City....THE place to eat fish...at The Sanitary Fish Market (is it still there?) I used to live in Virginia Beach. One year my family and my brothers family rented a place on Atlantic beach for a week...great fun. Another brother and a cousin was stationed at Camp Lejune, That brother also had a shrimp boat at that time...YUMMY...they would come up and bring shrimp. What a great vacation we had.
Now, I do hope you will come to round up!! I must meet anyone that can tell stories as big as ....opps....sorry...as NICE as shoe's!! Jo
Hey! I've been to Beaufort several times, my best friend married a Marine :~)
Lana
Daisy, We have more and more in common!! Looking forward to meeting you too!! Jo
