Ya'll work hard today??

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I sure did and this is my last post today because I'm dead as a dodo!! DD and I planted 3 trees - 2 ornamental plums and 1 crabapple!! They are so beautiful!! We also planted 3 climbers, 2 clematis and a Carolina jasmine. A few shrubs and some perennials. Amended the soil as we plodded along. Boy, it was hot and I collected the right amount of dirt on hands and feet and revelled in the satisfaction of showering it off!! I felt much lighter afterwards and could happily proclaim that was the best shower I ever had!! I'm easily pleased.....and so goodnight my friends...yawn!!!

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Yes I do yesterday not today because of had lot of rain not have to watering them save my time. =)

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey, check out that "ya'll"! She is hopelessly hooked, forever ours now.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh Lou! I worked harder than a man and smell like one too! LOL I tilled about a third (200 sq ft)of the veggie garden, moved my hoop house (only 32 sq ft)there and put down landscape fabric. The seedlings are going out there to live tomorrow if it doesn't storm. I need to back fill it with potting soil and staple plastic on it still. Got the first part done and realized hubby was gone with my van and my eight bags of nice dirt! aaarrrggghh. It was not dark yet so I went ahead and mowed the grass. Now I am some kind of beat and waiting to hit the shower.

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

I had a very productive day as well. Spread mulch around 40-50 daylilies and transplanted a bunch of bulbs I dug up which I found further into the woods. Neat flower, too. I'll have to put it on the ID forum as I've never seen it before. It creates bulblets like you can't imagine.

All this after a field trip with three 4th grade classes. :)

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

I cleaned out one long bed and sowed shade wild flowers in it and then put out several plants that I planted earlier. That doesn't seem like a lot but I can tell I'm out of shape. I carried my Mom out on the porch and she sat and watched me and I think she enjoyed it as much as I did.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Same here made a dent in cleaning out the flowers beds and getting all my edging back up and did some weeding as I went got piles of rubbish in piles all over the yard. That will have to wait until tomorrow to get cleaned up. Louisa I know what ya mean a shower never felt better. lol

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

You mean I was supposed to bathe after all that? :)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I went to the green house and worked from 9:30 to 6:30. I had company though, Granny Lois and Dave came to see me. They brought me some shrubs for my living fence along the edge of my yard and some blue salvia. It was a good visit and I sent her home with some brugs.
Then I came home and weeded part of one garden, dug some holes for my brugs and placed the pots of tropicals in the bed I want them in. By then it was dark, so I came in. I thought about a shower, but hey, it's not Saturday yet.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

lol you guys - cats are afraid of water, not humans...!! Looks as though you all had a very satisfying but tiring day and I'm sure were pleased with your efforts. Redrose you've had enough rain now, so maybe you can save on your water bill!! I must have been really overtired because I went to bed early, then woke up just after 12 midnight and here I am!! Daft aint it!! Chele you never cease to amaze me - 5 girls and you still manage to do other things and boy did you do other things!! Carla you too - children as well as garden chores!! I wonder what you managed to dig up!! Yardbird your post was kinda special and yes, Aimee I am starting to write like a Yank!!! Peggy you are lucky you have a lawn to edge!! Cala it was a long day for you it seems, but a good long day with your special visitors who came bearing gifts :-) Hopefully tomorrow I will finish the planting, until the next time!! Then it's patio-laying time and digging more beds - offers of help will be greatly appreciated :-)

Aha, I knew you couldn't stay in bed all night! I am on my way out of here, but took one final turn around and here you are. Have to get off and do some stuff for DS to take care of his jury summons. It seems Travis County is the first to provide for this empaneling to be done online! I looked at the form, and they ask for race and SS#, and I think both should be stricken, but who am I to say? I'm sure they can get it all if they want it, but SS# is "released only to judge, litigant's attorney, litigant". HUH? My information can be released to the litigant??? Why on earth would he or his lawyer need that information? By the laws included in the privacy rights act at least as far back as 1973, we are guaranteed anyone getting this information has to demonstrate a "need to know". Another cause for me to get elevated blood pressure over. It won't stop until we have no privacy left. Sorry, Louisa, I was trying to say goodnight. Here's your thread back.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I have nothing to add...lol!! Off you go then and get some shut-eye. You mean we do have some privacy left??? Wow!! I can just see me on the panel of jurors. Oh boy, I hope I never have to do that!!

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

I had a very productive day too. I weeded every bed out there and planted about 20 plants. Then worked in the greenhouse transplanting til I had to come in and make dinner for DH.

It was a great day!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

I worked outside till dark-weeding,transplanting and potting things. It was 73 here and wonderful! Suppose to rain today-but if possible im going to grab n run to the greenhouse to pot some more plants up for sale this year! My dh laughs when I say that!-I will show him!!!!!!!

I luv WARMTH!!!!!!! =]

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm sure most of us love this time of the year, how can we not!!! Busy little bees for sure!! Warmth I love Dori, but I can't take hot-hot and humidity!! Hopefully I can get the rest of the plants in the ground before the coming week. I have just learned it's going to be in the upper 80s and that means 90F at least. So, like I feared, winter into summer all in one week!! Then that's me finished because of medication!! I'm not supposed to be out in the sun anyway. However, an idea has just this minute hit me - why can't I garden at night-time!! Yes, that's it because rousing before the sun comes up is not my forte!!

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

Yep, we are going from winter to summer too, a bit of rainy drizzle for the weekend then into the 80's by the beginning of the week. At least I had one week of spring, heh heh.

Louisa I my DH put up a big spotlight for me to garden at night. I haven't done that for quite a long time because I have more days to spend out there. But with my old job I had to be out there at night to get anything done.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Hey Jody didn't the mozzies bother you then!! I won't wear repellent so I guess I will have to wear a hat with a face net (as beekeepers do) and a lightweight all in one pant suit...lol!!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

I dug most of my ponds at night.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

There you go again!! Are you sure your ancestors were not Amazonians!!! :-)

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm sad this evening but better than the 'mad' that I was earlier on today!! After all that hard work and really feeling sore all over, the deer once again decided to pick on my garden and nibble at the new trees and the roses!! No wonder the neighbours don't plant as much as I do but they have put in trees. On the other hand, they bulldozed their land and I retained as much of the forest as I could. So therein lies the answer!! But I really did feel like giving up and not bothering any more. It didn't last too long though!! Filled the bed in front of the shed with more perennials and such and then the rain came. Good timing!! I hung scented soap on the trees and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Tomorrow will tell but if those beautiful creatures have another go then yes, I really will feel down!! A waste of energy, time and money!!

I know what you mean Louisa...I'm sure the scented soap will work - for a while - keep changing the smells every week. When they get used to the soap, throw something else out there, like human hair, then go back to the soap, etc. I always hope that with spring bursting forth and all the green in the woods that they will stay there and eat the greenery in the woods. We can only hope....

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

vic I never thought to change the soap on the roses. It's been there a good two weeks now!! Human hair I have heard of. I asked hubbie tonight to have his hairdresser give him back his hair and he told me that it mingles with all the other hair on the floor. That's bad isn't it?? You would think they brushed the floor after each haircut. Don't think I want to handle someone else's hair even if it is for the deer. Kinda creepy!! lol!!

I have asked my hairdresser for hair but I use plastic gloves when I spread it around. It's my understanding, and I could be totally wrong, that the deer get used to "new smells" quickly so you need to change the smells often. Hair one week, soap another, maybe a radio another, etc. There's a bunch of sprays out there as well but don't know what chemicals are in them.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I'll try anything vic except chemicals. So OK - hair today, gone tomorrow....lolol!! Sorry couldn't resist it!!!!

Didn't get to do a lot as it seems we are having a monsoon season but I'm not complaining...we need the rain. DH ran two more water hydrants for me so I don't have to drag hoses everywhere when I do water which will be all too soon, I'm sure...

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

vic~ people are forever having us save hair for them .....They say the rabbits hate it. I usually save a huge pile. then. they don;t come back in to get the hair because they have been to all the shops in town and forget where they have been.

Iola, WI

Fleet Farm, Wal-Mart, Copps(grocery store), The Dollar Store...

I'm exhausted too!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Almost had a sunstroke! I went out early, and it warmed up before I knew it, I was so busy trying to reclaim a bit of garden. My back hurt, my feet hurt, my everything hurt, but I knew I had to go through it sooner or later until I rebuild the muscle I once had for gardening chores. Finally, I took a break when I was dizzy and my mouth was painfully dry. Got inside, had a glass of water, and the stomach ache hit. I felt I would surely be sick. So I had no choice but to lie across the bed until it subsided. Visitors came by before I fell asleep, so I was up and back out getting things for them that I knew they could use in their new home in the woods west of town. By the time they left, it was too late to start back where I left off, so I walked around the pasture gathering a few wildflower seeds from some things I didn't even get to see bloom this year. It seems I will never catch up again. Ah, but there is tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Aimee you did have a sunstroke!! It happened to me in Chicago about three year's ago! Started feeling dizzy, sick, dry mouth and the shakes. Horrible!! I drank and drank but nothing would take away that dry mouth. After a few hours I was OK but I will NEVER do it again. So be a good, sensible girl in future!! :-) vic know what you mean about dragging the hose around. My biggest peeve and hurts my neck when I do it!! Stupid builders didn't put the water faucets where I had stipulated!! Made some inane excuse but I am still pursuing it!! Hurray for your DH!! I worked hard the last two days planting again. I think there about 10 more shrubs and plants to go and then I'm taking a good long rest...well, housework of course yuk!! The rains are coming too - good!!

I think I was probably misleading when I said water hydrants. DH built this house so we have plenty. Last year, when the drought got the best of us and I had even emptied all the rain barrels, he dammed our creek and then ran water lines directly to the garden and at that time set up three water hydrants for hoses. Then, as I expanded my garden, he decided I should have two more as I was dragging hoses forever. He even built little holders to wrap them on. Yep...he's the man...well....after oreo - LOL the cat..

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I can remember you telling me about that vic. You are lucky then to have the creek and a marvellous husband!!! No doubt Oreo is a good second-in-command!! :-)

Louisa, there is a lady here that grows beautiful hosta. There is also a bad deer problem in the city. She puts up a single strand of electric fence, hangs little strips of aluminum foil on the wire, every few feet, and turns on the fence. The deer can't resist the flapping shiny foil, stick their noses on it and get the bejeebies shocked out of their noses. They don't come back.

Even being on crutches couldn't keep me in today! I had my daughter help me plant a few things i had in the house from fall. And even planted some seeds. what a beautiful day! And all my snow is Gone :)

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Cala I wondered what those little strips of foil where!! Some 'distant' neighbours have them but minus the electric fence - so what does that mean I wonder. Thanks for the info!! Midwest, what we gardeners will do huh!! Nothing can stop us it seems and I can well remember the days in England crawling around the soil and weeding and determined that my disability wouldn't stop me, no way - no how!! I would be tired of course but felt rewarded and useful. I don't do that now but if I don't take care of myself, I might have to resort to that practice again. So I know how you feel and happy for your beautiful day!!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh, let's see: Saturday I dug up daylilies, thanks to a VERY sweet DG'er who let me thin out some of her "extras".

Sunday and today, I planted daylilies. And planted. And planted. And planted! At last count, around 200 of them are in the ground - hooray! The daylily bed is now "for real" and not "future"! I saved some room for the daylilies coming from Julie's co-op, and I still need to put down newspaper and pinestraw mulch, but the hardest part is done.

Then I started moving things - foamflower and a forgotten clump of blue lobelia got moved, as did several bergenia and filipendula. New impatiens found their way in among the other plants edging the pond. The hardy plumbago decided to put in an appearance, so they got dug up and layered in several flats to try to sprout lots of new baby plants.

Thanks to Calalily's good advice, my heuchera got lifted, the soil amended, and replanted. Many hostas have now found new homes. Tomorrow we're on to the sunnier garden beds.

Ohhh, and the coolest thing - I have tiny asparagus spears waving hello at me in my veggie garden!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I have yet to start on the shade gardening Terry!! Once we thin out the trees that is!! I suppose your daylilies bloom at different times!!
