Just noticed today is the day of Finnish language and Mikael Agricola =) Now I have to go put the flag to the pole... :}

The Day of Finnish Language
Thought you were a Fin(n) not a Pole (from Poland), Evert :o)
Sorry, another bad pun!
Thanks for flying the flag - good to see. Shame most of us don't speak any Finnish.
:)
:} hahahah :> If we go to East Europe by car next summer, Poland will be my 25th country =)
That's a very impressive score Evert. Must add mine up and see where i've been, never thought to do that. Won't come to nearly as many as you i don't think - and i've had a few more years to do it in, LOL!
I have been to Poland though - to a bat conference, but we saw some of the countryside too. Krakow is a lovely city with a large medieval square and some fascinating buildings.
May we see your list please?
:)
:] Most of my countries are from Europe but.. Here you are:
Finland
Sweden
Estonia
Danmark
France
Germany
Belgium
The Netherlands
Italy
Luxemburg
Liechtenstein
Spain
Portugal
Russia
Greece
Slovenia
Croatia
Austria
Switzerland
India
UAE
& Tunisia
I have almost free hands to plan our route... I would really like to visit Belarus, my friend lives there, but there's so many troubles going there. Anyway, we may go to Slovakia after Poland, then to Hungary, Wien (Austria), then through Czech to Germany, & Danmark and from Danmark to Sweden across the bridge and then back to Finland.
I would like to see Krakow but I'm not sure if we can go there, but maybe --- Did you visit Osviecim by the way? Horrible place, don't want to go there.
Interesting site Evert! Is this a day of celebration for you?
Yes, Baa, forgot to say what a good site.
Well Evert, your list's most impressive. Here's mine:
France
Belgium
Denmark
Norway (including Svalbard), loved the Lofoten Islands.
Sweden
Iceland
Poland
Italy
Slovenia
Austria
Greece
Romania
Madeira
Namibia
[Some different parts of the UK - Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland, Jersey, Orkney - don't really count though i spose?]
And then my mother and I went to the West Indies with Roy Lancaster and Matthew Biggs. We visited 11 islands on a wonderful plants and gardens holiday. So:
Puerto Rico
St John
St Maarten
St Kitts
Antigua
Guadeloupe
Martinique
St Lucia
St Vincent
Barbados
Grenada
Hmmmmmm that was brilliant
This year I'm booked on a bat workshop in Belize in July, so will fly into the US en route - that'll be another two.
You've got a lot on your list i'd like to visit eg wow, India!! One of my ambitions.
:) :) :)
Baa, people may not 'celebrate' this day as you think (many days are not celebrated public here typical for finns,ha haha).. anyway we have these specialy days for diffferent things or people when there are always flags on public places and some people's yeards if they happen to have a flagpole and they have time, :} Anyway December 6th and June 24th/25th everyone have flags here.
Philomel, wow what a list! I think it is pretty impressive to visit That much in West Indies, and Romania, Namibia ;) Instead or Madeira shouldn't you say Portugal =)
Yes, we were in Goa - India last March. Wonderfull place, especially Savoi Spice Plantations and full blooming plumerias, cows, sunsets, Thunbergias, our hotel and everything..
By the way, one annoying thing about colonies and islands. So, when UK, NL, France and other rich countries took islands around the wold.. and they're still their, I think it is pretty funny. Especially Islas Malvinas. And Finland and other countries have nothing. Huh. And Russia has so much land and just wants more. Can't understand. Goa used to be a Portugal's colony ;)
Well, haven't been to Portugal mainland, Evert, and though Madeira is 'Portuguese' I think it's far enough away, with a different climate, to be named in its own right :)
Anyway, half the ones in the West Indies are 'owned' by some larger power or other. Yes, poor old Suomi, don't you 'own' anywhere else? You must be very friendly, loveable people, not power crazed adventurers, LOL ;)
Heh =) I have been to Portugal mainland when I was little but not to Spain mainland - just in Mallorca. :}
Yep, we couldn't get anything because other countries always owed us. Ehhem. Only Åland Islands. http://davesgarden.com/showthread/223630.html
So no day off school for you :( I find it odd that in England we don't celebrate St George's Day, it's hardly even mentioned.
Yes, I agree Baa. People seem to have forgotten April 23rd.
