Yesterday on eBay I lost out on an American Hort. Society A-Z encyclopedia of plants, with one minute to spare - the victim of sniper bidding :(
But as things would work out, today I was searching for a Gray's Anatomy book. I thought I had the only two up for bid on my watch list, but did one more search. And I came up with one that had 6 minutes to go...and I got it for $6! (From the photo it appears to be in great condition (better than the two on my watch list!)
So, all in all things worked out pretty good. Of course, I wouldn't be hopelessly addicted to eBay if Aimee hadn't told me about that set of botanical books she has, LOL. I just had to have some, and the next thing I know, I'm back to my old habits, buying too much and selling nothing!
What's your best recent gardening find (on eBay or otherwise?)
Win some, lose some ;)
Oh, vols, should I feel guilty for causing you to suffer a relapse, or is this a good thing? Congratulations on your successful bids, I know you are going to enjoy them. I am still looking for a volume 5 if anyone should have an extra. I have it in my second set, but not the original, after I foolishly loaned it to a young man of less than acceptable scruples and principals. I just can't ever rest until I restore that original set to totality.

Aimee, I've been seeing several single volumes and broken sets up for bid, and I'll let you know if I find Volume 5 anywhere. And no, of course I don't blame you - I can't hardly wait to get my set in my hands, along with the other *few* books I've "won" (funny how they make it sound so positive to part with your money!)
Well, my most recent ebay transaction didn't involve gardening, but I sold a 35 mm camera that I don't use and came up with enough money to buy a digital camera that I will use. DH is happy that it's not much money out of our pocket and our tax refund is still intact. LOL!
My lastest ebay purchase-lookin over my soulder, no hubby-was 50 iris for 27.50 and I emailed him about gettng MORE!
Vols-I have the A-Z horticulture book-i go it for 5.99 when I joined the abc book club and a free garden tote! The cover is about to fall off already though!!! The book is a garden BIBLE! =]
I was pleased to get a copy of the new Logee's book for $13 this week. I came very close to paying $35 at the book store. In fact a just punched a search into e-bay before I headed out the door to go buy it!
I also got some "Wedding Bells" morning glory seeds. It's an heirloom that has been off the market since the 60's.
Aimee - I sent you an e-mail about your missing volume to the set... did you get it?
Poppysue, yes, and thank you. I hate to break up a set for just one volume, and he does have the entire set offered by the volume. Comes out to a lot more that way, but a reasonable way for me to get mine. I thought I would wait and see how the bidding goes. Thanks for thinking of me, it sure helps to locate things when people help.
I'm not clever enough to do the ebay thing but I did find a 'treasure' yesterday. Thought we would take a look in at an antique shop on the way home yesterday. I had always given this particular shop a miss because it looked too classy and expensive but to my delight found what we English call a type of 'Welsh Dresser'. I think it's called a hutch over here which word really doesn't do it justice :-) Anyway it's lovely, a cherry two piece, made in Pennsylvania and under $350!! Now that's what I call a bargain....lol!!! :-)
I must admit the "sniper bidding" on ebay drives me crazy! I haven't really looked at their gardening area - yet. I know I will go overboard if I do. (Oh well, I think I will sneak a peek today). I am usually looking for old X-Men videos. My kids (my hubby & myself) really like them. So far I have gotten volumes 1-7 & 9 (1st season), Pryde of the X-Men, and 2 spider man videos with the x-men in them. If any of you happen to have these stuck in a cabinet, let me know - I might be able to take them off your hands! Well, I am going to go check out the plants on eBay - I shouldn't get into trouble since it's too early to plant here.
