Ok, someone charged $70 to my credit card yesterday at register.com I'm on the warpath now!...lol I canceled the card and disputed the charges already, so I won't have to pay it...but I want to find out who has my number...grrrrr. I'll let y'all know what I find out. This is very frustrating. They better hope I don't find out who it was!...lol
credit card fraud
That's weird. I had problems with my Visa today.. had to leave my things twice to the cashier. :/
That's terrible hc!!! I hope they trace the culprit!! Something strange too this morning. My DIL does not send emails very often but she sent me a warning about credit card fraud!! Scary!!
Yeah, if I find out who it was, I'll be spreading the name of the culprit over the whole internet. I don't take scams against me very lightly. More than likely, we won't ever find out who it was that really did it. I'm going to try and get some info from the company where the charges were made. Hopefully they have some contact info or at least SOMETHING.
Is it correct that even if they did know who did it, they can't reveal the name????
I certainly hope such is not the case! It's a crime, and crime reports should be public knowledge.
I don't think they will tell you. A few years ago, we got a credit card bill that had over $400 of charges on it that we definitely did not make. Most of them were for things like 1-800-FLOWERS and lots of small charges to places like that. Whoever did this was really into sending flowers. Our credit card company cancelled our card, and reissued a different one. We had to identify which charges were ours and they took the rest off. We asked who had done this to us and they wouldn't disclose who it was. I wanted to know in case it was a store or someplace we frequently order from that stole our number and used it, so that I wouldn't buy from there again and give them another chance.
When you order something with a credit card, the person you give the number and expiration to could very easily use it, since that's all they ask for. It's getting scary to use them at all.
hczone6 - how did you find out so quickly? We didn't find out until we got the bill the next month.
We need to pester out politicians who write the laws until they make this more fair. Since when are criminals protected by privacy rights they have just been found to have violated themselves? I am thnking of who would be the best legislator to introduce this measure to protect the innocent. I intend to write a few letters, maybe make a few phone calls.
We check our account online periodicaly....that's how we knew.

Hc...maybe it was a hacker to your site where you check it! just a thought!
I've had this card since 1993 or so. I've never had any trouble before. I can only assume it has happened as a result of online activity (me ordering things on the net with my card). I don't think it was the GM Card's website that was at fault...more than likely it was some small operation that either mishandled or misused my card number. I can think of one site in particular that would be a good candidate for this. It's a site I bought a digital camera from recently. I immediately started getting spam in my email after I ordered, even though thier website says they don't sell or give out your address....seems like a lie to me! It's based in New Jersey. I checked out the site before I bought from them and they had pretty good service ratings. That doesn't mean they are completely honest. Just because I got my camera on time doesn't mean they aren't shady characters. I have my reasons why I'm suspicious about them, but I could be very wrong....oh well. We'll see.
they got my sister in law. Changed a tanning bed....Lets see. clothes...computers...all sorts of things. and guess what..no one wants to do anything about it. She gave the FBI the names of the people that did it in Miami and they told her to call the companies that the things were changed to and they could care less! Now her totally perfect credit is trashed. it is a huge hassle to get things cleared off. they got her S.S.# from a garbage can at our local hopsital. They traced it to cleaning people... who passed the info on down the line.... PLUS.... people are always calling her , telling her she has to asnwer questions ..like I need to know your birthday!
Credit card company called us to tell us that someone had tried to charge $500 at TARGET 2 seperate times. Its unreal!
