Thanks, Aimee!

Aimee, I thought I should say thank you for sharing the source of your botanical info a few weeks ago. I just won a set (the 14-volume, not 18) of Greystone Press books on eBay.

Sadly enough, I got the complete set for $9.99, plus a pretty penny in postage - because of the weight. (Sadly because you said they sold for $3 per volume when new? Which makes the original cost $42, not adjusting for inflation OR depreciation....But I'm not complaining :)

While I was bidding on a few sets of these books, I also managed to win a Hortus and a like-new book on Southern wildflowers. And of course, there are a few other books I'm still watching and bidding on. eBay is a very dangerous place for me and my wallet, LOL.

Oh, go-vols, I am so happy for you! Before you know it, we will all have very similar garden libraries. I think I need to go to eBay and shop, too. There are always more garden books I want. Which Southern wildflowers book did you get?

I got a set too. Aren't they just great? I even got some duplicates of some volumes with the set that I got. Thanks for sharing Aimee, these are great books and I wouldn't have known about them without you mentioning them :)

Aimee, the book is called (simply enough) Southern Wildflowers by Laura C. Martin - it's very interesting (lots of folklore and tips for medicinal and culinary use of wildflowers - for example, jewel weed can be gathered, boiled and the strained water frozen into ice cubes to use to treat poison ivy rashes. Lots of nice illustrations, too.

I do love those types of books. I have one that is sort of a takeoff on the Euell Gibbons school of thought, with recipes and information of all kinds for wild plants. I was delighted to learn that cleavers and stinging nettle can be used for tea and other things, although I haven't gotten around to actually using them. I hate them so, and they are so invasive here, along with straggler daisy, so it gives me pleasure to think of making them work for me. I can see I need to be very careful about going to those auction sites, could end up being forced to eat weeds because I spent all the grocery money on books! Thanks for the title. I was hoping it was one I already have so I wouldn't add another one to my wish list, but, no, it's another item to want.
