REDROSE's thread made me think (thankyou RR, that's quite an achievement!)I'm getting more and more confused about who's on what time. Now we - in the UK - 've gone into BST (British Summer Time) instead of GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) it get's even more complicated!
Now I find from RR's thread that we don't even change time for summer at the same time!
http://davesgarden.com/showthread/218840.html#new
DG was on 7 hours behind UK (GMT)
WZ was 9 hours behind UK
Evert, any idea how you compare?
Once we've all changed for the summer (into our shorts, lol?) do the rest of you know how you compare with DG, or GMT, or BST??
What time are you on?
Phil have you just woken up??? On the east coast we are 5 hours behind GMT!! You change your clocks one week before us I think. My daughter in Germany thought the clocks had to go forward two week's ago, so she adjusted the clocks and then realized it was not until another week. But guess what!! She just left the time as it was - said she could live with it for a week and didn't want to mess up baby Ben again....lol!!! He doesn't need any more upheaval actually poor darling. Still going throught it!!
Looks as if i was a bit behind your time on the Parking Lot thread, LOL!!
You've answered that and more
Yes, it's the babes that suffer even more than us. None of our bodies really know why we do it!
Philomel, I am at GMT + 2, so I always think GB is 2 hours behind, and USA/Canada is from 7 to 10 hours =)
We have summer time now also (Kesäaika), so now we are at GMT +3 hehe ;) We changed to Kesäaika last saturday/sunday night.
Lord, this seems complicated. Maybe we should just preface every thread entry with, "Just finished breakfast" or "Just turned the bedcovers down" or "Lunch is on the table"!
Lunch is almost on the table here in the Pacific northwest. I am in Pacific Standard time, 3 hours behind the east coast.
We will change the time next weekend.
this reminds me of a brunch I once had 20 yrs ago, while living in SanFrancisco, I had this big "do" planned, and was busier than all get out getting things ready, well, I was nowhere near being ready when my guests started appearing, for the first couple of guest I thought "the nerve coming over an hour early" then when I noticed so many people had arrived, I asked if I had given them the wrong time by any chance, cause by my calculations, they weren't due for another hour. As it turns out, we had changed the clocks, and I had forgotten about it!
When we first moved to Alaska, I had a hard time with all our summer daylight here. As usual, I told the kids to be home by dark. By 11pm, I was frantic, searching all over the neighborhood for them. They were down by the beach looking for starfish and couldn't imagine why I was upset.. it was still light outside!
Yes, this time things a strange one. Was just curious, but you're right WZ, it's getting way too complicated and really doesn't matter. Nice to know now and then, just to try and imagine others' lives.
:)
When I wake up in the morning I push those buttons! 6am-till around 3pm when the boys get home! Then they tie me up and take over! LOL
I clean house and pop in and out all day long!
6-10am Im usually right here in my chair! =]
Whenever it WARMS up a bit-IM OUTTA HERE!!!!!!!
I am on EST(eastern standard time) and we turn our clocks back this Sunday.
I always get so confused about time changes... I thought it was spring ahead, fall back... oh, well, my computer will tell me what time it is. At least my Timex watch will be the right time again. Never seemed to get around to finding the instructions to reset it after the last time change!
Yes i agree Weez - my version's on this thread:
http://davesgarden.com/showthread/218840.html#new
:)
Standard Times, LOL :)
Weez, I like light summers, I always have my sunblinds open on summer because I want to enjoy the lightness.. it is wonderfull to walk barefoot on a moist grass 4:00-5:00 (am) when it is all light and watch the sun coming up :} Today sun will go down 20:49 in Helsinki, and 21:18 in Utsjoki (little city in Lapland, about 1000 km north of us.....
Evert: In our summer, you'd be hard pressed to meet the sunrise! Though we do not have constant daylight here, as some might think, it is light till the wee hours of the morning, and light again in short order. Because we live surrounded by mountains, we can't see the sun rise or the sun set. We see the pink reflected on the mountains instead. It is always a treat to go to Anchorage or Kenai and actually see the sunrise or sunset.
Philomel: Thanks for the hyperlink..it's all clearer to me now! I don't know why I must make all this so difficult. My DH just rolls his eyes at me sometimes when I am trying to get these issues straight in my mind. It is as if some conceptual part of my brain burnt a fuse years ago and I'm clueless.
Alaskans tend to get disgruntled about the time changes. In the spring, though we can have more darkness in the morning, rather than the usual 4am sunrise, at night, it is light until 11pm. It is exactly the opposite in the winter when the time changes again. Working in the yard in the summer, when the DH is away from home on a job, I will decide to check the time to see it it is time to make myself some supper. When I go indoors to look at the clock, it could be midnight!
Here in good old Indiana we just leave it alone.
Hi, HoneyBee: Has it always been that way? I haven't lived in Indiana since 1974, so I can't recall... it seems we used to change the clocks.
We leave it alone in Arizona also. We are now with the rest of the States in Mountain Time...but come Sunday we will not change our clocks, so will be on the same time as Pacific time. The sun is rising earlier each morning and my "sleepy time" depends on what time the sun pops over the mountains...I awake with the sun.....Or I have a "seven hour kidney"...which ever comes first. LOL Jo
Jo, I'd kill for a 7 hour kidney! It's really a trick trying to stay asleep through a bathroom visit so I'm not up for the duration at 4am!
weezing,
Yes it has always been this way as long as I can ever remember. There is a little area just before you hit Kentucky that does change times.
Well, I'm just lousy in calculating space and time. I don't know one direction from another, or what time of day it is.. guess it's a good thing I can make seeds grow... everybody has to be good at something!
I've been getting up at 6am to plant seeds in the basement, so I imagine I'll be down there an hour early tomorrow!
I'm in Central Time (I think) which is 6 hours difference from Greenwich Mean (I think), but I'm not sure whether it's ahead or behind. I think behind. I do know that when I post this, it'll be about 3:30pm here, but will show up on DG as about 4:30pm. THAT much I have straight! lol!
I've always had trouble figuring out the time differences around the world, too. I still HATE this durn daylight savings stuff ~ messes me up. What helped me immensely was to get the globe my Mom used to teach school with (it has the little time-thingy on the top that you set on the longitude lines), shine a light on it to simulate the sun and take a good hard look at it. Makes it much more clear when I can "SEE" it. I need to go get it right now. LOL!
