Seed Import/Export Restriction

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Dave,

I'm not sure how you personally feel about this issue, but if you have a concern as do several of us, I thought perhaps you could share it with those that subscribe to your newsletter given the short notice of the 3/29/02 deadline. Here's a link the the thread that Christina started: http://davesgarden.com/showthread/213894.html

Thanks, Tamlamb! I fixed it & it should work now. Also, here is another link to the link Christina had posted just to save everyone another click: http://www.jlhudsonseeds.net/USDAComment.htm

Tammy, it worked for me by clicking on the one in Cristina's post. I posted it yesterday in the brug forum, so you might try that one. It is scary.

Here's a copy of what I wrote to Alan.V.Tasker@usda.gov. I also sent an email & will forward the same snail mail to my Ohio Senators & Congressmen. Just in case anyone else is interested from Ohio, here is yet another link to how to contact Ohio Senators & Congressmen both via email & snail mail --> http://www.aidsstories.com/states/oh.html

Here's a copy of what I wrote:

I am STRONGLY opposed to the "clean list" or "white list" that is being put forth stating that permits and inspections for ALL seeds and plants moving interstate will be required.

This Draft Action Plan for the Noxious Weeds Program is unacceptable and must be halted. Additional time for public comment MUST be permitted AND communicated effectively, and no new restrictions on the free flow of any seeds and plants that are not listed noxious weeds ought be put in place.

Additionally, I have contacted my State Senators and Congressmen regarding this issue.

I titled the email message, "Opposition to Draft Action Plan for "clean list" for Noxious Weeds Program"

Morph,

I'm not good with words. Would you care if I copy and paste the letter part and mail it to my State Sen. and Congressmen?

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Not at all! That is why I posted this in case ANYONE would like to use it. I started with what was suggested and modified a bit. Everyone, I freely allow you to copy and/or modify what I have written regarding this issue. I've improved it just a bit more by being more specific about open communication to the American public. Here's my latest:

Dear Alan V. Tasker,

I am STRONGLY opposed to the "clean list" or "white list" that is being put forth by the USDA stating that permits and inspections for ALL seeds and plants moving interstate will be required.

This Draft Action Plan for the Noxious Weeds Program is unacceptable and must be halted. Additional time for public comment MUST be permitted AND communicated effectively to the American public. Finally, no new restrictions on the free flow of any seeds and plants that are not listed noxious weeds ought be put in place.

Additionally, I have contacted my Ohio Congressmen and Senators regarding my opposition to this "clean list" or "white list".

Sincerely,
Deb Dana

Thanks, Morph!! I'm copying and sending out snail mails tomorrow. I'll have to do it by hand, though. Gosh, I sure miss my printer. *grin*

For everyone ~ below are lists of websites for all the sentors and representatives in the US. Click on your senator/rep's name to go to their website where you should be able to find their snail-mail address. And remember, snail mail is NOT as easy to delete as an e-mail, so is usually more effective!

Yes, Wingnut, very true. Given the deadline (3/29) & slower delivery of mail to our government officials since 9/11, I thought an email expressing opinion was a good first step followed by the snail mail.

I agree! E-mail AND snail mail is what I'm doing, too. I should have clarified, so thanks for doing that, Morph!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

My emails are sent, but will have to do the snail mail tomorrow. Hope we are heard.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

there's no way I could get snail mail to them this late. I'm flooding mine with email. I saved a copy of Morph's text and made a folder with all their emails. I'm going to send this off several times a day until the 29th. And the few I can't get their email, I'm calling.

Way to go, Bonnie!
